D10 Dashamsa Chart: Meaning and the Ten Parts of Each Sign
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
The D10 chart cuts each sign of the birth chart into ten parts of 3° and gives every part a sign of its own. Unlike the navamsa, it does not run in one unbroken chain around the zodiac: an odd sign and an even sign begin their count from different places, and that single difference decides almost everything else about the chart. Each sign meets its own name in exactly one part, has exactly one part that falls on the 10th sign from it, and never reaches two of the twelve signs at all. All of it is worked out below from the rule, sign by sign.
D10 Chart Meaning and Its Other Names (दशमांश)
Dasha is ten and amsha is a part, so the Dashamsha (also written Dashamsa or Dasamsa, and in Hindi दशमांश कुंडली) is the chart of tenth-parts. It is one of the sixteen divisional charts of the Parashari scheme, set out on the shodashvarga hub. The Parashari list of those sixteen assigns the D10 to position and great undertakings. In present-day Parashari practice the D10 is read as the career chart, and the site’s houses table, which lists “career and profession” first among the keys of the 10th house, names the Dashamsha among the things read alongside that house. The page keeps to the arithmetic: which sign each 3° part takes, and the patterns that follow.
Odd Signs Start From Themselves, Even Signs From Their 9th
The rule Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra gives for the tenth division is short. In an odd sign (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius) the first part takes the sign itself. In an even sign (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces) the first part takes the 9th sign from it. After that every part moves on by one sign, so ten parts cover ten signs in zodiac order. The full grid:

The highlighted cell in each row is the part where the sign gives back its own name. Read down any column and the twelve cells are all different, and over the whole table each sign appears exactly ten times, once for every part number.
The Own-Sign Part: 1st in an Odd Sign, 5th in an Even One
Because an odd sign starts its count from itself, its own name comes first, in the 0°00′–3°00′ part. An even sign starts eight signs ahead and has to go round through the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th signs from itself before it gets back to its own, which happens in the 5th part, 12°00′–15°00′. A graha in one of those arcs holds the same sign in the rashi chart and the D10. The more familiar case of that agreement, between the rashi and the navamsa, is the subject of the vargottama page; the D10 arcs are a different set, since the navamsa runs on its own rule.
The Part That Falls on the 10th From the Sign
The name of the chart invites a second question: in which part of a sign is the D10 sign the 10th sign counted from it? Each sign has exactly one such part, and again the odd–even split decides where. In an odd sign it is the last part, 27°00′–30°00′, because the count that began at the sign itself reaches the 10th sign on its 10th step. In an even sign it is the 2nd part, 3°00′–6°00′, because the count began on the 9th and the 10th is the very next sign. For Aries that is Capricorn at the end of the sign; for Taurus it is Aquarius, near the start. The page draws no reading from this; it is a property of the counting.
Two Signs Each Sign Never Reaches
Ten consecutive signs leave two out. For an odd sign the two missing ones are the 11th and 12th signs from it, the two just before it in the zodiac, since its run starts at itself and stops at its 10th. For an even sign the run goes from its 9th round to its 6th, so the gap is its 7th and 8th. Whatever degree a graha holds in a sign, its D10 sign cannot be one of these two:
- Aries: never Aquarius or Pisces (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Taurus: never Scorpio or Sagittarius (the 7th and 8th from it)
- Gemini: never Aries or Taurus (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Cancer: never Capricorn or Aquarius (the 7th and 8th from it)
- Leo: never Gemini or Cancer (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Virgo: never Pisces or Aries (the 7th and 8th from it)
- Libra: never Leo or Virgo (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Scorpio: never Taurus or Gemini (the 7th and 8th from it)
- Sagittarius: never Libra or Scorpio (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Capricorn: never Cancer or Leo (the 7th and 8th from it)
- Aquarius: never Sagittarius or Capricorn (the 11th and 12th from it)
- Pisces: never Virgo or Libra (the 7th and 8th from it)
Where the Count Carries Over a Sign Boundary, and Where It Jumps
Follow the zodiac from 0° Aries onwards and the D10 sign does not change smoothly at every join. At the end of each odd sign it carries straight over: the last part of Aries is Capricorn and the first part of Taurus is Capricorn as well, so the same D10 sign covers the 6° that straddle the boundary, 3° on each side. That holds at all six odd-to-even joins, because an odd sign’s count stops at its 10th and the even sign that follows starts at its own 9th, which is the same sign. At the end of each even sign the count breaks instead: Taurus finishes on Libra and Gemini opens on Gemini, the 9th sign on from it. A graha or lagna close to the end of an even sign can therefore change its D10 sign by a long way with a small change of degree, which is one reason a D10 lagna depends on an accurately recorded birth time.
D10 Chart Analysis Starts With a Degree
To place a graha in the D10, take its degree within its sign, divide by 3 and drop the fraction; the result plus one is the part number. A graha at 17°30′ Virgo is in part 6, the 15°00′–18°00′ arc, and the Virgo row of the table gives Libra for it. Do the same for the lagna and every graha and the D10 chart is built: the lagna’s D10 sign becomes the first house of the new chart and the grahas are set in the signs the table gives them. A free kundli gives the lagna degree; the Kundli report gives every graha’s. The navamsa (D9) guide walks through the same construction for the ninth division, where the parts are 3°20′ and the starting rule follows a sign’s mobility rather than whether it is odd or even.
What This Page Does Not Do
It does not say what work, job or position a D10 placement points to, whether a career will rise or stall, or when anything happens. It makes no claim about government service or any other field, and no strength or score is attached to any cell of the table. Interpreting a D10 involves the whole chart, the dashas and the judgement of the person reading it, none of which can be taken from a grid of signs. For related reading, the site has separate pages on career prediction by date of birth and government job yogas; they set out other parts of the tradition and are not derived from the arithmetic on this page. In Hindi: दशमांश (D10) कुंडली: हर राशि के दस भाग.
The Degrees Behind Your D10
The Janam Kundli report calculates the degree of your lagna and every graha, which is what the table above needs to place each one in its Dashamsha sign. It does not forecast a career from them.
