Sun Mahadasha, Venus Antardasha (Surya–Shukra)
1 year (classical) · 365 days (solar) · sub-period 9 of 9 in a 6-year mahadasha
The Venus antardasha is the ninth of the nine sub-periods inside the Sun mahadasha, and the last of them — it closes the Sun mahadasha, which gives way to the Moon mahadasha. 6 × 20 ÷ 120 makes the Sun–Venus sub-period 1 year on the classical year of twelve thirty-day months, which is how the texts state it, or 365 days on the solar year of 365.2425 days that the dasha calculator uses.
Venus’s turn in the Sun mahadasha comes only after the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Ketu have run, which takes 5 years. Nothing of the Sun mahadasha is left once the Sun–Venus sub-period ends.
Venus’s 20 years make every Venus antardasha 20/120 of the mahadasha containing it, so inside the Sun’s 6 years the Sun–Venus sub-period is the longest of the nine.
The Nine Pratyantardashas of Sun–Venus
A pratyantardasha of Sun–Venus is 6 × 20 × its own lord’s years ÷ 14,400, and the nine run in cycle order starting from Venus. Venus’s is the longest inside Sun–Venus at 60 days and the Sun’s the shortest at 18 days, on the classical year and rounded to the day.

How the Sun and Venus Stand to Each Other
On the natural friendship table, the Sun and Venus each count the other an enemy. The Sun–Venusrelationship is mutual, so it reads the same from either lord.
Counted between the signs they own, Taurus is the 10th from the Sun’s Leo and Libra is the 3rd from the Sun’s Leo. Whatever the ascendant, the houses the Sun rules and the houses Venus rules sit at those same distances from each other in the chart, so the Sun–Venus sub-period always joins lordships that far apart.
The Sun is debilitated in Libra, a sign Venus owns. In the Sun–Venus sub-period, then, one lord's dignity is placed on the other’s ground.
The Same Pair the Other Way Round: Venus–Sun
6 × 20 equals 20 × 6, so the Sun antardasha of the Venus mahadasha is exactly as long as Sun–Venus: 1 year. Nothing else about Venus–Sun matches. It is the second sub-period of Venus’s 20 years rather than the ninth of the Sun’s 6; it opens after 3 years 4 months of the Venus mahadasha, against 5 years here; and its pratyantars start from the Sun instead of Venus.
What the Texts Assign to the Sun and Venus
The karaka list the tables give the Sun, the mahadasha lord, is father, government, authority, the soul (atma) and administration; for Venus, the lord of the Sun–Venus sub-period, it is marriage, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels and cosmetics. Parashari practice reads the sub-period through the houses each of the two owns and occupies in the birth chart, and through where Venus stands counted from the Sun there. None of that is a forecast, and this page makes none: without a chart, Sun–Venus is a length and a position, and the 1 year above is the whole of what can be said about it in general.
A birth with the Moon in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni or Uttara Ashadha opens life inside the Sun mahadasha itself, part-way through, and whether the Sun–Venus sub-period is still ahead depends on how far the Moon had gone into the nakshatra. For a birth in Bharani, Purva Phalguni or Purva Ashadha, the Venus mahadasha comes first, and the Sun mahadasha is the next one.
The Other Sub-Periods of the Sun Mahadasha
The full table for the Sun mahadasha, with where each sub-period opens and closes, is on the Sun mahadasha page. How the Sun mahadasha is read as a whole is in our Sun mahadasha article, and the system itself in Vimshottari dasha explained. This page in Hindi: सूर्य महादशा में शुक्र अंतर्दशा.
When does Sun–Venus run in your chart?
The dates come from the Moon’s longitude at birth. The calculator gives them; a pandit reads what the two lords hold in your chart.
