Shukla Ashtami · amanta Ashwina · computed for New Delhi
Durga Ashtami in 2027 falls on Thursday, 7 October 2027. It is kept on the Shukla Ashtami of amanta Ashwina.
Why Durga Ashtami Is on 7 October in 2027
The Shukla Ashtami begins at 04:13 on 7 October 2027 and ends at 06:28 on 8 October 2027. The 2027 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Durga Ashtami tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.
On 7 October 2027 the Sun rises at 06:17 and sets at 18:00 at New Delhi. The Shukla Ashtami is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 7 October 2027 is the day. The table flags this tithi as vriddhi: it holds the rule’s moment on two consecutive days, the generator takes the first, and almanacs that take the second are not wrong.
In 2027 the Shukla Ashtami lasts 26 hours 15 minutes, against 26 hours 24 minutes in 2026 and 24 hours 25 minutes in 2028: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 11 hours 43 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi.
The daily panchang for 7 October 2027 gives Shukla Ashtami at sunrise; the day before, Shukla Saptami; the day after, Shukla Ashtami. At that sunrise the yoga is Shobhana and the karana Vishti. The panchang for 7 October 2027 has the rest of the day.
When the Shukla Ashtami begins, the Moon is in Mula, ruled by Ketu. By sunrise on 7 October 2027 the daily table has it in Purva Ashadha.
