Narasimha Jayanti 2028: Sunday, 7 May 2028

Narasimha Jayanti in 2028 falls on Sunday, 7 May 2028. It is kept on the Shukla Chaturdashi of amanta Vaishakha.

Why Narasimha Jayanti Is on 7 May in 2028

The Shukla Chaturdashi begins at 06:05 on 7 May 2028 and ends at 03:33 on 8 May 2028. The 2028 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Narasimha Jayanti tests the tithi at sayahna, the evening (“tithi through sayahna kaal”).

On 7 May 2028 the Sun rises at 05:35 and sets at 19:00 at New Delhi. The Shukla Chaturdashi is not running at sunrise on 7 May 2028; it begins at 06:05, after sunrise, and is current at the moment the rule names, which is why Narasimha Jayanti is kept that day rather than on the day that holds the tithi at dawn.

In 2028 the Shukla Chaturdashi lasts 21 hours 28 minutes, against 25 hours 21 minutes in 2026 and 23 hours 59 minutes in 2027: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 13 hours 25 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi.

When the Shukla Chaturdashi begins, the Moon is in Chitra, ruled by Mars.

Narasimha Jayanti in 2026, 2027 and 2028

Narasimha Jayanti 2028 comes 11 days earlier in the calendar year than Narasimha Jayanti 2027. Between Narasimha Jayanti 2027 and Narasimha Jayanti 2028 the lunation table has 12 new moons, and twelve lunations fall short of a solar year, so the date moves earlier.

In the 2028 table Narasimha Jayanti comes 10 days after Akshaya Tritiya and 1 day before Buddha Purnima.

Within six days of Narasimha Jayanti in 2028: Buddha Purnima (8 May).
