Guru Pushya Yoga 2027 and Ravi Pushya: Dates and Times
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
Guru Pushya is the name almanacs give a Thursday on which the Moon is in Pushya nakshatra, and Ravi Pushya the name for a Sunday that holds it. Neither November nor December 2026 has a Guru Pushya: the Moon passes through Pushya three times in those two months, and the days whose sunrise it holds are Sunday 1 November, Sunday 29 November and Saturday 26 December. Two of those are Sundays, so late 2026 has a Ravi Pushya on 1 November and another on 29 November. In 2027, Pushya touches five Thursdays and three Sundays, but it holds the sunrise of only two of those Thursdays and one of the Sundays, and that difference is most of what this page is about.
Two Readings of One Rule (गुरु पुष्य योग)
Thursday is the weekday of Jupiter, whose Hindi name Guru gives the combination its name, and Sunday is the Sun’s. Despite the word yoga, Guru Pushya is not one of the 27 yogas a panchang prints in its yoga column; it is a pairing of weekday and nakshatra. The Hindu weekday, the vaar, starts at sunrise and lasts until the next one, while Pushya starts and ends whenever the Moon crosses the edges of its arc, Cancer 3°20′ – 16°40′ of the sidereal zodiac. The two rarely line up, so a calendar has to decide what counts.
A sunrise calendar asks one question: is the Moon in Pushya at the moment the Thursday begins? Other almanacs print the yoga whenever Pushya and the Thursday overlap at all, with the hours of the overlap. This page gives both, without choosing. The Pushya instants come from the JPL DE421 ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa, truncated to the minute in IST; they are the same moment everywhere in India. The sunrises are New Delhi’s, from the site’s daily panchang table. Before any row prints, the build checks the two sources against each other: on 425 sunrises from 25 October 2026 to 24 December 2027, the daily table names Pushya exactly when the sunrise falls inside a Pushya span. One more sunrise, on 17 December 2027, shares its minute with the end of Pushya and is discussed below.
Guru Pushya 2027 Dates
| Vaar of | Pushya inside the vaar | Length | At sunrise? | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 February | 21:05 to 19 February, 06:56 (sunrise) | 9 h 51 min | No | Night only, from after sunset. |
| 18 March | 06:28 to 19 March, 03:20 | 20 h 52 min | Yes | Pushya holds the sunrise and lasts past sunset. |
| 15 April | 05:56 to 09:33 | 3 h 37 min | Yes | Pushya holds the sunrise and ends at 09:33. |
| 18 November | 19 November, 01:51 to 06:46 (sunrise) | 4 h 55 min | No | Night only, after midnight; the civil date is Friday. |
| 16 December | 09:12 to 17 December, 07:07 | 21 h 55 min | No | Begins in the morning, after sunrise. See below. |
Read by sunrise, the 2027 list is just Thursday 18 March and Thursday 15 April. In March, Pushya begins at 05:07, 81 minutes before the Thursday sunrise and so still inside the Wednesday vaar, and runs through the whole of the Thursday daylight until 03:20 on 19 March. The April passage began at 10:52 on 14 April, the day before, so it is there at the 05:56 sunrise, but it ends at 09:33. Read by overlap, three more Thursdays join the list: 18 February, 18 November and 16 December.
Ravi Pushya, November 2026 to December 2027
| Vaar of | Pushya inside the vaar | Length | At sunrise? | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 November 2026 | 06:32 to 2 November, 04:30 | 21 h 58 min | Yes | Pushya holds the sunrise and lasts past sunset. |
| 29 November 2026 | 06:54 to 10:59 | 4 h 05 min | Yes | Pushya holds the sunrise and ends at 10:59. |
| 1 August | 20:04 to 2 August, 05:42 (sunrise) | 9 h 38 min | No | Night only, from after sunset. |
| 29 August | 06:17 to 30 August, 03:44 | 21 h 27 min | No | Begins 20 minutes after sunrise. See below. |
| 26 September | 06:11 to 12:37 | 6 h 26 min | Yes | Pushya holds the sunrise and ends at 12:37. |
The two 2026 Sundays need no argument: Pushya is present at both sunrises. On 1 November it lasts until 04:30 on 2 November, before the next dawn, and on 29 November it ends at 10:59 in the morning. In 2027 only Sunday 26 September holds Pushya at sunrise, until 12:37. The 1 August passage begins at 20:04 on the Sunday evening, and the 29 August one begins just after dawn.
Nights That Count Only by Overlap
On Thursday 18 February Pushya begins at 21:05, long after sunset, and the Thursday vaar keeps it until the Friday sunrise at 06:56. A sunrise calendar shows Pushya on Friday 19 February instead, which is not a Guru Pushya. Sunday 1 August has the same shape on the Ravi side, from 20:04 to the 05:42 sunrise, and its sunrise day is Monday 2 August.
18 November is less obvious. Pushya begins at 01:51 on the civil date of Friday 19 November, after midnight but before dawn. By the vaar that is still Thursday night, so an almanac counting overlap prints a Guru Pushya of 4 h 55 min; a calendar counting the civil date sees a Friday, and a sunrise calendar sees Pushya on Friday 19 November. One passage, three readings, three different answers.
Starts After Sunrise: 29 August and 16 December
On Sunday 29 August Pushya begins at 06:17, 20 minutes after the 05:57 sunrise in New Delhi, and ends at 03:44 on 30 August, 2 h 14 min before the next dawn. It is the one passage of the period that holds no New Delhi sunrise at all, so a sunrise calendar for the capital shows no Pushya day for it: 29 August reads Punarvasu and 30 August reads Ashlesha. Further west the sun rises later, and the margin is small enough to flip the answer. Over the site’s 38 panchang cities, Ahmedabad, Goa, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune and Surat see their Sunday sunrise at or after 06:17, so a sunrise calendar printed for any of them shows a Ravi Pushya on 29 August that a New Delhi one does not.
On Thursday 16 December Pushya begins at 09:12, well into the morning, and runs through the Thursday daylight and night until 07:07 on 17 December. That is the minute of the Friday sunrise in New Delhi. Both values are given only to the minute, so neither table can say which comes first; the daily table prints Pushya for Friday 17 December, and this page treats that dawn as undecided. Either way the Thursday sunrise was before Pushya began, so 16 December is a Guru Pushya by overlap only.
Apart from these two, every Thursday and Sunday above has at least 30 minutes between a Pushya edge and the nearest New Delhi sunrise, and only one other row changes its answer across the cities. On 1 November 2026, Pushya begins at 05:39; Guwahati’s sunrise is at 05:31, before it, and the passage is over before Guwahati’s Monday dawn, so a Guwahati sunrise calendar has no Pushya day for this passage at all. Kolkata’s sunrise comes one minute after Pushya begins.
Every Pushya Passage, November 2026 to December 2027
| Pushya begins | Pushya ends | Sunrise day (New Delhi) |

| Sunday 1 November 2026, 05:39 | Monday 2 November, 04:30 | Sunday 1 November |
| Saturday 28 November 2026, 12:50 | Sunday 29 November, 10:59 | Sunday 29 November |
| Friday 25 December 2026, 22:49 | Saturday 26 December, 20:12 | Saturday 26 December |
| Friday 22 January, 10:25 | Saturday 23 January, 07:31 | Saturday 23 January |
| Thursday 18 February, 21:05 | Friday 19 February, 18:35 | Friday 19 February |
| Thursday 18 March, 05:07 | Friday 19 March, 03:20 | Thursday 18 March |
| Wednesday 14 April, 10:52 | Thursday 15 April, 09:33 | Thursday 15 April |
| Tuesday 11 May, 16:25 | Wednesday 12 May, 14:55 | Wednesday 12 May |
| Monday 7 June, 23:45 | Tuesday 8 June, 21:36 | Tuesday 8 June |
| Monday 5 July, 09:19 | Tuesday 6 July, 06:33 | Tuesday 6 July |
| Sunday 1 August, 20:04 | Monday 2 August, 17:09 | Monday 2 August |
| Sunday 29 August, 06:17 | Monday 30 August, 03:44 | none in New Delhi |
| Saturday 25 September, 14:27 | Sunday 26 September, 12:37 | Sunday 26 September |
| Friday 22 October, 20:24 | Saturday 23 October, 19:07 | Saturday 23 October |
| Friday 19 November, 01:51 | Saturday 20 November, 00:27 | Friday 19 November |
| Thursday 16 December, 09:12 | Friday 17 December, 07:07 | undecided: Pushya ends in the minute of the Friday 17 December sunrise |
Thirteen of these passages fall in 2027. Each lasts between 21 h 05 min and 22 h 51 min, because the Moon’s speed through the sky is not constant. The third column is the day a wall calendar marks; the overlap tables above are the hours that lie behind it. The Pushya panchang page keeps the same sunrise list for the whole of the daily table.
What the Muhurta Custom Asks of These Days
Pushya’s deity is Brihaspati and its ruling graha is Saturn; its symbol is the cow’s udder. The muhurta classes put it among the three swift, or kshipra, nakshatras with Ashwini and Hasta, a class the site’s nakshatra tables describe as chosen for undertakings meant to be over quickly, with buying and selling, learning a skill and opening a shop among its listed uses. Among the occasions the site’s muhurat filter checks, Pushya is one of the accepted nakshatras for business start, vehicle purchase, namakaran, mundan, annaprashan, upanayan, property or land deal and long travel or yatra, and it is absent from the marriage list; the nakshatra tables likewise record that tradition avoids Pushya for weddings.
The weekday adds to that in the muhurta reckoning. The planetary table names Brihaspati first among Jupiter’s deities, the same figure who presides over Pushya. Household and trade custom marks Guru Pushya and Ravi Pushya as days to buy gold or jewellery, open an account book or begin a course of study. Which of the two readings applies is the convention of the almanac a family follows, not something this page can settle. The list makes no claim about what follows from any of these days; nothing in a nakshatra is a reason to buy, sell or hold anything, and no calendar date tells you what a purchase will be worth later.
