Tulsi Vivah 2027: 10 or 11 November? The Tithi by Custom
Published 2026-10-27 | Live Pandit Ji
Tulsi Vivah 2027 (तुलसी विवाह 2027 कब है) does not come down to one date, and this page does not pretend it does. The site’s 2027 festival table has no row for it, and families attach the rite to different days of the short stretch that opens with Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) and closes with Kartik Purnima. The three customs most often described put it on the evening of the Dev Uthani day, which in 2027 is Wednesday 10 November; on the Dwadashi that follows, which holds the sunrise of Thursday 11 November; or on any day up to Kartik Purnima on Sunday 14 November. What follows is the lunar day actually running at each of those sunrises and sunsets, worked out for every city on the site’s list.
The Ekadashi Is Over by 09:11 on 10 November
The table dates Dev Uthani by the tithi at sunrise. The bright-half Ekadashi of Kartika begins at 07:35 on Tuesday 9 November, shortly after that morning’s sunrise, and is still current when the Sun comes up at 06:39 on Wednesday 10 November at New Delhi, so 10 November is the festival day. But it is a morning-only Ekadashi on that date: it ends at 09:11, 2 hours 32 min after sunrise. From then the Dwadashi runs for 24 hours 56 min, to 10:07 on Thursday 11 November, and the Trayodashi takes over.
The Ekadashi figures are the table’s own; the later tithi edges come from the site’s tithi code, which never strays more than 1 min from the tables when it is checked against them. The fast, its rule and the Ekadashi window are covered on the Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2027 page; this one deals only with where the wedding rite lands.
Sunrise and Sunset at New Delhi, 9 November to 14 November
| Date | Sunrise | Tithi at sunrise | Sunset | Tithi at sunset |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday 9 November | 06:38 | Shukla Dashami | 17:30 | Shukla Ekadashi |
| Wednesday 10 November | 06:39 | Shukla Ekadashi | 17:30 | Shukla Dwadashi |
| Thursday 11 November | 06:40 | Shukla Dwadashi | 17:29 | Shukla Trayodashi |
| Friday 12 November | 06:41 | Shukla Trayodashi | 17:29 | Shukla Chaturdashi |
| Saturday 13 November | 06:41 | Shukla Chaturdashi | 17:28 | Purnima |
| Sunday 14 November | 06:42 | Purnima | 17:28 | Krishna Pratipada |
Each tithi in this run changes over in the morning, after the Sun is up and before midday, so every evening carries the tithi that the next dawn will show. No sunrise or sunset in the table sits within 30 min of a tithi boundary. The 9 November row is there for one reason: an almanac that prints the instant a tithi begins may show the Ekadashi against that date, because it starts that morning. The sunrise rule still gives the festival to 10 November.
Three Customs and the Tithi Each One Meets
The evening of the Dev Uthani day
In many north Indian households, the custom is to hold the tulsi wedding after dark on the day of the Prabodhini fast. In 2027 that evening is Wednesday 10 November. At New Delhi the Sun sets at 17:30, 8 hours 19 min after the Ekadashi has ended, and the tithi at that sunset is the Shukla Dwadashi. A family following this custom will therefore be performing the rite on the Dev Uthani date but inside the Dwadashi. Whether that matters is a question for the family’s own priest; the page reports the tithi and leaves the ruling there.
The Dwadashi
Other families tie Tulsi Vivah to the Dwadashi. Read as a tithi, that Dwadashi is already running on the evening of 10 November, the same evening as the first custom. Read as the day whose sunrise holds it, the custom points to Thursday 11 November: the Dwadashi is current at the 06:40 sunrise there, with 3 hours 27 min still to go. It closes at 10:07, though, so by sunset at 17:29 that day the Trayodashi is 7 hours 22 min old. A household that keeps the Dwadashi rite on the morning of 11 November meets the tithi; one that waits for that evening does not.
Any day up to Kartik Purnima
A third practice leaves the rite open across the days from Prabodhini to the full moon of Kartika. The table dates Kartik Purnima 2027 to Sunday 14 November, four days after Dev Uthani, by the sunrise rule; its Purnima begins at 09:55 on 13 November and ends at 08:55 on 14 November. The table above shows what that means for an evening rite at New Delhi: the only sunset inside the Purnima is the one on Saturday 13 November, and by sunset on 14 November the dark fortnight has begun.
38 Cities, the Same Answer
The tithi edges are single instants for the whole country, and only the local sunrise and sunset move against them. Run on each city’s own sun, all 38 cities on the site’s list give the pattern shown at New Delhi: the 10 November sunrise in the Ekadashi and its sunset in the Dwadashi; the 11 November sunrise in the Dwadashi and its sunset in the Trayodashi. The narrowest case is Jammu, which has the latest sunrise on the list, with 2 hours 16 min of the Ekadashi left at its 10 November sunrise and 3 hours 11 min of the Dwadashi left at its 11 November sunrise. On 9 November every city’s sunrise comes before the Ekadashi begins, the slimmest gap being 41 min at Jammu. A selection:
| City | 10 November sunrise / sunset | 11 November sunrise / sunset |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | 06:39 / 17:30 | 06:40 / 17:29 |
| Jammu | 06:55 / 17:32 | 06:56 / 17:32 |
| Amritsar | 06:53 / 17:34 | 06:54 / 17:34 |
| Jaipur | 06:42 / 17:38 | 06:43 / 17:38 |
| Ahmedabad | 06:49 / 17:57 | 06:50 / 17:56 |
| Mumbai | 06:42 / 18:01 | 06:43 / 18:01 |
| Lucknow | 06:21 / 17:18 | 06:22 / 17:17 |
| Varanasi | 06:11 / 17:12 | 06:11 / 17:11 |
| Patna | 06:03 / 17:03 | 06:03 / 17:02 |
| Kolkata | 05:45 / 16:54 | 05:46 / 16:54 |
| Guwahati | 05:37 / 16:35 | 05:38 / 16:35 |
| Hyderabad | 06:18 / 17:41 | 06:18 / 17:41 |
| Bangalore | 06:16 / 17:50 | 06:16 / 17:50 |
| Chennai | 06:05 / 17:39 | 06:05 / 17:39 |
With margins of hours rather than minutes, no east-west split appears this year, and the 1 min tolerance of the tithi code cannot change any cell. For a town not on the list, the panchang tool gives local sunrise and sunset.
Vrinda, Jalandhara and the Shaligram
The rite marries the household tulsi plant to Vishnu, who is usually present as a shaligram stone and sometimes as an image of Krishna. The story attached to it is told in more than one Purana. In the Padma Purana, Vrinda is the wife of the asura Jalandhara, whose strength depends on her faithfulness; Vishnu comes to her in her husband’s form, the protection fails, and Jalandhara falls in his war with Shiva. The Devi Bhagavata Purana gives a parallel account in which the woman is named Tulasi and her husband Shankhachuda: there her curse turns Vishnu to stone, the shaligram, and her own body becomes the Gandaki river, where that stone is found, and her hair the tulsi plant. The yearly wedding, as households stage it, brings the plant and the stone together, and popular retellings often merge the two accounts.
The ceremony is dressed as a small wedding: the plant is decked as a bride, a canopy is put up over the pot, and the family takes the roles of the bride’s and groom’s sides. The order of the rite differs from house to house. This page gives no procedure and makes no claim about what holding the ceremony brings to anyone who holds it.
The Wedding Season, and Why No Dates Appear Here
North Indian household custom treats Tulsi Vivah, at the close of Chaturmas 2027, as the moment human weddings may begin again. The custom opens a season; it does not pick days within it. Choosing a wedding date means testing each candidate day’s panchang and reading it against the couple’s charts, and none of that is done here. The site’s worked list is wedding dates for 2026 and 2027.
