November 2027 Festival List: Chhath to Kartik Purnima
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
In 2027 the Diwali week closes on 31 October, so November starts just after it, in the bright half of Kartika. All three of its festival dates come in the first fortnight: 4 November is the evening arghya of Chhath Puja, 10 November is Dev Uthani Ekadashi, and 14 November is Kartik Purnima. After the full moon the month runs on monthly fasts alone, Utpanna Ekadashi and a second Thursday Pradosh among them, and ends with the Amavasya on 28 November. The table has 13 rows; none of them is a two-sunrise or no-sunrise case, so each date below is the only one this method gives.
November 2027 Festival and Vrat Dates (व्रत त्योहार)
| Date | Day | Observance | How the date is fixed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 November | Tuesday | Vinayaka Chaturthi | Shukla Chaturthi at madhyahna. |
| 4 November | Thursday | Chhath Puja | Shukla Shashthi at pradosh. |
| 6 November | Saturday | Masik Durgashtami | Shukla Ashtami at sunrise. |
| 10 November | Wednesday | Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi | Shukla Ekadashi at sunrise. |
| 11 November | Thursday | Guru Pradosh Vrat | Shukla Trayodashi in the pradosh window. |
| 14 November | Sunday | Kartik Purnima | Purnima at sunrise. |
| 14 November | Sunday | Kartika Purnima | Purnima at sunrise. |
| 17 November | Wednesday | Sankashti Chaturthi | Moonrise inside Krishna Chaturthi; New Delhi moonrise 20:21. |
| 20 November | Saturday | Kalashtami | Krishna Ashtami at night. |
| 24 November | Wednesday | Utpanna Ekadashi | Krishna Ekadashi at sunrise. |
| 25 November | Thursday | Guru Pradosh Vrat | Krishna Trayodashi in the pradosh window. |
| 26 November | Friday | Masik Shivratri | Krishna Chaturdashi at night. |
| 28 November | Sunday | Amavasya | Amavasya at sunrise. |
Every row is read for New Delhi off the site’s panchang tables, which come from NASA JPL’s DE421 ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Tithi start and end instants are from the site’s tithi calculator, checked against 86 rows of those tables and never more than 1 minute out. Those instants hold for the whole country. Sunrise, sunset and moonrise do not, and Chhath is kept mainly in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, well east of Delhi, so check a row near an edge in the panchang tool for your own town.
Kartika Until the 14th, Then Margashirsha in the North
The new moon at 19:06 on 29 October, Diwali evening, came with the Sun in sidereal Libra, which is how amanta almanacs open Kartika. Purnimanta almanacs had already been counting Kartika since the October full moon. For about 16 days the two agree, and then the full moon at 08:55 on 14 November ends Kartika for the purnimanta side and starts Margashirsha. The amanta side keeps the name Kartika until the next new moon, at 08:54 on 28 November. By then the Sun has moved into Scorpio, at 01:53 on 17 November, so the lunation that new moon opens is amanta Margashirsha. That Scorpio entry is printed here as an instant only, with no Sankranti observance day.
In practice the name of every row after Kartik Purnima depends on the almanac. The six of them, from the Sankashti to the Amavasya, belong to Kartika’s dark fortnight in the amanta almanacs of western and southern India, and to Margashirsha’s in a north Indian calendar. The dates themselves do not change.
Chhath Puja: Nahay Khay to Usha Arghya
The festival table fixes Chhath Puja on Thursday 4 November, the day whose sunset falls inside the Kartika Shukla Shashthi. That tithi opens at 19:32 on 3 November and closes at 21:38 on 4 November, and the 4 November sunset is the only one it contains. Families who keep the vrat count its four days around that evening, and in 2027 each day’s sunrise tithi matches the name the custom gives it:
- Nahay Khay, Tuesday 2 November: Shukla Chaturthi at sunrise
- Kharna, Wednesday 3 November: Shukla Panchami at sunrise
- Sandhya Arghya, Thursday 4 November: Shukla Shashthi at sunrise and at sunset
- Usha Arghya, Friday 5 November: Shukla Saptami at sunrise
The Kharna evening is still Panchami at sunset, since the Shashthi does not begin until about two hours after dark, and the Shashthi ends that same night after the evening arghya, which leaves the dawn arghya to the Saptami. The Nahay Khay day is also the month’s Vinayaka Chaturthi: its Shukla Chaturthi covers the whole of that day’s madhyahna and ends at 18:02. This list gives no arghya times, because both arghyas follow the local sunset and sunrise and the daily table is New Delhi’s. The Chhath Puja 2026 page shows how far those times move between Patna, Kolkata and Delhi. On the Usha Arghya day Mercury, direct again since 28 October in Virgo, re-enters Libra at 17:06; Masik Durgashtami follows on Saturday 6 November.
Dev Uthani Ekadashi Closes Chaturmas, Inside Panchak
The Moon enters the Panchak stretch at 10:59 on Sunday 7 November and leaves it at 07:55 on Friday 12 November. The month has only this one Panchak, and two rows fall inside it: Dev Uthani Ekadashi and the first Guru Pradosh.
The daily table shows Dashami at the sunrises of both 8 November and 9 November, so the Ekadashi does not start until 07:35 on 9 November, after the second of them. It then runs to 09:11 on Wednesday 10 November, which makes the 06:39 sunrise that morning the only one it holds, and Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi is 10 November by the plain sunrise rule. The Vaishnava check against Dashami at arunodaya changes nothing, because the Ekadashi has been running since the morning before; Utpanna, later in the month, passes the same check, so November has no Smarta and Vaishnava split. The Ekadashi 2027 list files this one as Prabodhini, and the table here carries it on the festival row instead of a second Shukla Ekadashi line.
The site’s closures table ends Chaturmas on this Ekadashi, having opened it at Devshayani Ekadashi on 14 July. The festival table has no Tulsi Vivah row, so this list prints no date for it; the Dev Uthani 2026 page describes the ceremony and the household split between keeping it on the Ekadashi and on the Dwadashi. For the parana, the custom looks to the Dwadashi after sunrise. In 2027 the Dwadashi is the sunrise tithi of Thursday 11 November and gives way to the Trayodashi at 10:07 that morning; no parana window is printed here. That Trayodashi fills the whole pradosh window of the same evening, which makes 11 November the month’s first Guru Pradosh Vrat.
Kartik Purnima: A Purnima That Is Over by Mid-Morning
The Purnima opens at 09:55 on Saturday 13 November and ends with the full moon at 08:55 on Sunday 14 November, 2 hours and 13 minutes after that day’s 06:42 sunrise. Only the Sunday sunrise is inside it, so Kartik Purnima is 14 November by the sunrise rule, and the Purnima 2027 list puts Kartika Purnima on the same day. At the full-moon instant the Moon is in Krittika, though the daily table’s sunrise nakshatra that morning is Bharani.
An evening reading would look different. The one sunset the tithi holds is 13 November’s, and by the evening of 14 November the Pratipada has begun. Dev Deepawali, Varanasi’s lamp festival on the Kartika full moon, has no row of its own in the festival table, so this list does not date it separately; the Kartik Purnima 2026 page sets out how an evening observance is read against the tithi, and in Varanasi the city’s own panchang settles it.
Sankashti, Pushya and Kalashtami
The Sun enters Scorpio in the small hours of Wednesday 17 November, and the Krishna Chaturthi opens less than two hours later, at 03:42. The previous evening’s moonrise came before it, so the Sankashti Chaturthi is Wednesday, when New Delhi’s moonrise at 20:21 is inside the tithi.
Pushya begins at 01:51 on 19 November and ends at 00:27 on 20 November. The one sunrise it holds is a Friday’s, so a sunrise calendar shows no Guru Pushya this month. A Hindu weekday runs from sunrise to sunrise, though, so those pre-dawn hours still belong to Thursday 18 November, and an almanac that counts any overlap prints a Guru Pushya of just under five hours for that Thursday. The Guru Pushya and Ravi Pushya 2027 page walks through this passage, which three kinds of calendar read three ways. Mars moves into Sagittarius at 08:38 on that Thursday.
Kalashtami is the night of Saturday 20 November; the Krishna Ashtami begins at 19:18 and lasts until 17:20 the next day. Venus enters Sagittarius at 02:03 during that same night.
Utpanna Ekadashi to the Amavasya
Utpanna Ekadashi falls on Wednesday 24 November. Its Krishna Ekadashi opens at 13:45 the afternoon before and ends at 12:12 on the day, holding one sunrise. Amanta calendars file it under Kartika and purnimanta ones under Margashirsha; the Utpanna Ekadashi 2026 page covers the observance itself.
Utpanna is the first of three rows on consecutive days. The Krishna Trayodashi covers the whole pradosh window of Thursday 25 November, so both of the month’s Pradosh evenings are Thursdays and both are Guru Pradosh. Masik Shivratri is the night of Friday 26 November. The same date has two sign changes: Mercury enters Scorpio at 00:25, and Jupiter enters Virgo, which the site dates to the day; the Jupiter in Virgo 2027 page covers that move.
The Amavasya opens at 09:07 on 27 November and holds the Sunday 28 November sunrise, ending at 08:54 with the new moon that starts amanta Margashirsha. It is the last row of the month. December’s first festival rows are Vivah Panchami on 3 December and Mokshada Ekadashi on 9 December.
Six Sign Changes and No Station
No planet turns retrograde or direct in November 2027, and six sign changes fall in it, each mentioned above beside the row it shares a day with: Mercury into Libra on 5 November and into Scorpio on 26 November, the Sun into Scorpio on 17 November, Mars into Sagittarius on 18 November, Venus into Sagittarius on 21 November and Jupiter into Virgo on 26 November. The Mercury, Sun, Mars and Venus transit pages for 2027 list the rest of each planet’s year.
