Mars Transit 2027: Every Mangal Gochar Date

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

A Lopsided Year for Mangal (मंगल)

Mars opens 2027 in Leo, which it enters on 12 November 2026, and the year then splits cleanly in two. Until 5 July 2027 Mars is caught in a retrograde loop and occupies only Leo and Cancer: 185 days, more than half the calendar. From that date to the end of December it crosses into five signs one after another, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn, with no station anywhere in that stretch.

The first half has its own page. Mars in Leo 2026–27 follows the Leo passage from its start, through the retrograde back into Cancer and the return, with its nakshatras and its meeting with Jupiter. This page lists every Mars date of the calendar year 2027 instead, and spends its words on the half that page does not reach.

Every Mars Date in 2027

The table merges the site’s sign-ingress, station and conjunction tables, computed from the JPL DE421 ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa, in time order. Times are IST and appear only on sign changes. The dignity column marks the three signs where the classical table in the site’s planet data gives Mars a special standing; the others are left blank.

Mars enters Capricorn in the last week of the year, so that spell runs on: the next row in the table takes it into Aquarius on 3 February 2028.

The Retrograde, and Why the Leo Entry Does Not Hold

Mars stations retrograde in Leo on 10 January 2027 and direct in Cancer on 1 April 2027, a retrograde of 81 days. The stations are dated by the day only: at a station the planet is barely moving, so no minute means anything. The Mars retrograde 2027 page sets out both stations in more detail.

The practical consequence is that the Leo entry of 12 November 2026 is not a settled sign change. The backward motion carries Mars over the boundary into Cancer on 10 March 2027, so the Leo occupancy that begins in 2026 is interrupted for 47 days. It resumes when Mars crosses forward again on 26 April 2027, and only the Virgo crossing of 5 July 2027 takes Mars out of Leo with no return in the table. A listing that gives one date for “Mars in Leo” has dropped a reversal.

Days in Each Sign in 2027

The site’s table of average pace gives Mars about 8 weeks per sign. 2027 departs from it in both directions. Leo alone holds Mars for 138 days of this calendar year across its two spells, more than double the average, because the station falls in that sign and the retrograde passes over some of its degrees a second time. After the loop the spells run short instead, and each is shorter than the one before.

Mars in Sagittarius (धनु)18 November to 27 December39Pisces, Gemini, Cancer
Mars in Capricorn (मकर)27 December to 31 December5Aries, Cancer, Leo

The four complete spells after the loop run 50 days in Virgo, 45 days in Libra, 41 days in Scorpio and 39 days in Sagittarius. The speed recorded at each entry rises in step, from 0.55° a day at Virgo to 0.75° at Sagittarius, so the same thirty degrees take fewer days each time. The Capricorn row covers only the last five days of December; that spell runs 38 days in all.

The aspect column follows the Parashari scheme recorded in the site’s planet data, which gives Mars the 4th and 8th as special aspects on top of the 7th that every graha casts. From Virgo, Libra and Capricorn one of those three aspects falls on Aries, one of Mars’s own signs.

Debilitation, Own Sign and Exaltation in One Year

The classical dignity table, as the site’s planet data records it, gives Mars Cancer as its sign of debilitation, Aries and Scorpio as its own signs, and Capricorn as its sign of exaltation. In 2027 Mars stands in three of those four:

  • Cancer, debilitation: 10 March to 26 April, 47 days, reached only because of the retrograde. The direct station on 1 April falls inside it.
  • Scorpio, own sign: 8 October to 18 November, 41 days. See Mars in Scorpio for the reference page on the placement.
  • Capricorn, exaltation: from 27 December, continuing into 2028 until 3 February 2028.

Aries, the other own sign and also the sign of Mars’s moolatrikona in the same table, is not reached this year; the next entry in the table is 20 April 2028. A dignity in this table describes how the classical scheme classes a placement. What it amounts to in a particular chart is a question for that chart, and nothing on this page assigns it an outcome.

How Firm the Printed Minutes Are

The site prints a minute only for a crossing made at 0.1° a day or faster, and all seven of this year’s sign changes clear that bar. They are not equally firm, though. A small disagreement in longitude, such as the gap between two almanacs using slightly different ayanamsas, turns into clock time at a rate set by the planet’s speed:

  • Cancer, 10 March: 0.29° a day (backwards), so one arcminute is about 83 minutes of clock.
  • Leo, 26 April: 0.25° a day, so one arcminute is about 96 minutes of clock.
  • Virgo, 5 July: 0.55° a day, so one arcminute is about 44 minutes of clock.
  • Libra, 24 August: 0.64° a day, so one arcminute is about 38 minutes of clock.
  • Scorpio, 8 October: 0.70° a day, so one arcminute is about 34 minutes of clock.
  • Sagittarius, 18 November: 0.75° a day, so one arcminute is about 32 minutes of clock.
  • Capricorn, 27 December: 0.78° a day, so one arcminute is about 31 minutes of clock.

The two crossings nearest the stations are the soft ones. At the 26 April re-entry an arcminute is worth about 96 minutes, and at the 10 March return about 83 minutes, against 31 minutes at the 27 December Capricorn entry. One arcminute of disagreement moves either of those two times by more than an hour, so they are better read as approximate than as appointments.

Two crossings sit close enough to midnight that the date itself is soft. The Cancer return at 00:30 IST is 30 minutes past midnight, less than one arcminute of motion at that speed. The Scorpio entry at 01:21 IST is 81 minutes past midnight, about 2.4 arcminutes of motion. A panchang computing with a slightly different ayanamsa could put either on the previous evening. Separately, the Cancer crossing, the Virgo crossing and the Scorpio crossing all fall before 05:30 IST, so a sidereal ephemeris kept in UTC prints each of them on the previous date.

Nakshatras, and the One Meeting of the Year (नक्षत्र)

The site’s planet data lists Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta as the nakshatras Mars rules. Only Chitra comes up in 2027: Mars enters it on 13 August 2027, while still in Virgo, carries it across the line into Libra on 24 August, and moves on into Swati on 3 September. Chitra is the nakshatra that straddles those two signs in the site’s nakshatra table. Three of the year’s sign changes are also nakshatra changes at the same instant, because the boundaries coincide: Cancer with Ashlesha, Leo with Magha and Sagittarius with Moola. Nakshatra crossings are given as dates only, and this page names no pada.

The conjunction table holds a single Mars meeting in 2027 that does not involve a node: Venus and Mars reach the same sidereal longitude on 25 November 2027, about 5.2° into Sagittarius. The classical friendship table lists each as neutral to the other. The Mars–Venus conjunction page collects every meeting of the pair in the covered years, and the Venus transit 2027 page gives Venus’s side of the same year.

Which House Mars Occupies From Your Moon Sign

Gochara is counted from the janma rashi, the Moon’s sign at birth, as the 1st house. The grid does that count for each sign Mars occupies in 2027; each number links to the site’s page for that house. It is arithmetic only. A house names a field of life, and no cell here says what happens in it. If you do not know your Moon sign, the Moon sign calculator works it out from birth details.

A Moon-sign count is one input to reading a transit, and a thin one. The natal chart supplies the rest: the lagna and the houses these signs fall in from it, which houses Mars rules for that lagna, any natal planet in the signs Mars crosses or aspects, and the dasha running. A transit is also not a dasha; how a Mars period is reckoned is covered in Mars mahadasha. The observances the tradition attaches to Mars are gathered in remedies for a weak Mars and Tuesday fasting and Hanuman, and the rest of the planet’s data is on the Mars (Mangal) hub.

The other grahas’ years are set out the same way: Sun transit 2027, Mercury transit 2027, Venus transit 2027 and Saturn transit 2027.

The Year in One Paragraph

Mars starts 2027 in Leo, stations retrograde there on 10 January 2027, backs into Cancer on 10 March 2027, stations direct on 1 April 2027 and re-enters Leo on 26 April 2027. It then enters Virgo on 5 July, Libra on 24 August, Scorpio on 8 October, Sagittarius on 18 November and Capricorn on 27 December, meeting Venus on 25 November along the way.

The dates on this page are the same for everyone; the houses they fall in depend on the birth chart. The Janam Kundli report computes yours from date, time and place of birth: the lagna, Moon sign, the sign and house of every graha, and the dasha sequence with dates. It does not read the 2027 transits for you. It gives you the chart any reading of them would start from.
