Mars in Leo 2026–27: Mangal Gochar Singh Rashi Dates

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

How Long Mangal Stays in Singh Rashi (मंगल का सिंह राशि में गोचर)

The short answer to “Mangal Singh rashi me kab tak rahega” is that it depends which visit you mean, because this time there are two. Mars enters Leo at 20:10 IST on 12 November 2026 and stays until 10 March 2027, when its retrograde motion carries it back over the boundary into Cancer. It comes forward into Leo again on 26 April 2027 and finally leaves for Virgo on 5 July 2027.

  • First spell: 12 November 2026 to 10 March 2027, 118 days.
  • Back in Cancer: 10 March to 26 April, 47 days.
  • Second spell: 26 April to 5 July 2027, 70 days.

Together that is 188 days in Leo. The figure to set it against is the site’s table of average pace, which gives Mars about 8 weeks per sign on an orbit of 687 days. The first spell alone runs past 16 weeks. That is not because Mars lingers in some special way in Leo; it is because the retrograde station falls inside the sign, and a planet that slows, stops and reverses passes over some of the same degrees more than once. For contrast, the next Mars visit to Leo after this one, beginning 14 October 2028, has no station in it and lasts 55 days, close to the average.

The Spell Begins With Mars Leaving Its Debilitation Sign

Before Leo, Mars spends 55 days in Cancer, from 18 September 2026. The site’s planet data, which follows the classical dignity table, gives Cancer as the sign of Mars’s debilitation (neecha) and Capricorn, the opposite sign, as its exaltation. In the table’s terms, then, the November ingress takes Mars from its debilitation sign into a sign where no special dignity applies: no graha has its exaltation or its fall in Leo.

The retrograde loop then reverses that move for a while. The 47-day return to Cancer is a second stretch in the debilitation sign, and the direct station on 1 April 2027 happens there, in Cancer, rather than in Leo. Anyone reading the months from March to April as part of “Mars in Leo” is reading the wrong sign for them. What a debilitated transiting Mars amounts to in a particular chart is a question for that chart; the table records the dignity and nothing more.

The relationship with Leo’s lord is a separate matter. Leo is the Sun’s sign, and the natural-friendship table lists the Sun among Mars’s friends (Sun, Moon, Jupiter) and Mars among the Sun’s (Moon, Mars, Jupiter). On that basis the site’s Mars in Leo reference page classes the placement as a friend’s sign. That is a statement about how the classical table pairs two grahas, not a prediction about anyone.

The same planet data records Mars as the commander of the grahas, and gives it the Parashari special aspects on the 4th and 8th as well as the universal 7th. From Leo those fall on Scorpio (Vrishchika), the 4th; Aquarius (Kumbha), the 7th; and Pisces (Meena), the 8th. Scorpio is one of Mars’s own signs (Aries and Scorpio), so for both spells one of the three aspects lands on a sign Mars rules.

The Whole Loop, Date by Date

The table below merges three of the site’s generated tables (sign ingresses, stations and nakshatra crossings) with the conjunction table, in time order. Clock times appear only on the sign changes; the reason is in the next section.

Date (IST)MarsNakshatra
18 September 2026, 16:29Enters Cancer, its sign of debilitation in the classical table—
12 November 2026, 20:10Leaves Cancer and enters Leo (first spell begins)Magha

19 December 2026Crosses into the next nakshatraPurva Phalguni
10 January 2027Stations retrograde, in LeoPurva Phalguni
31 January 2027Moving backwards, returns to the first nakshatra of LeoMagha
10 March 2027, 00:30Backs out of Leo into Cancer (first spell ends)Ashlesha
1 April 2027Stations direct, in CancerAshlesha

29 June 2027Crosses into the nakshatra that straddles Leo and VirgoUttara Phalguni

The retrograde itself, from 10 January 2027 to 1 April 2027, is 81 days long and has its own page: Mars retrograde 2027 sets out both stations and the degrees at which they fall. The retrograde checker answers the narrower question of whether Mars is retrograde on a given date.

What the Printed Minutes Are Worth

The site does not publish a minute for any crossing slower than 0.1° a day. All four of these sign changes are faster than that, so the minutes stand, but they are not equally firm. At the first entry Mars is covering 0.46° a day; at the slip back into Cancer it is moving backwards at 0.29° a day, and at the return to Leo forwards at 0.25°. The slower the motion, the more clock time a small difference in longitude is worth: one arcminute is about 52 minutes of clock at the first entry and about 96 minutes at the second. Almanacs that use a slightly different ayanamsa from the Lahiri value this site computes with can therefore differ by that much without either being wrong.

That matters most for the 10 March crossing, which the table puts at 00:30 IST, 30 minutes after midnight. At about 83 minutes per arcminute, a panchang working with a marginally different ayanamsa could put the same event late on 9 March. The calendar date of that one crossing should be held loosely; the stations, which get no minute here at all, are dated by the day for the same reason.

Time zones add a second, simpler shift. Every time on this page is Indian Standard Time. The return to Cancer and the exit into Virgo both happen in the small hours by Indian time, so in UTC they still fall on the evenings of 9 March 2027 and 4 July 2027. Those are the dates a sidereal ephemeris kept in UTC will print, and the local dates in the Americas.

Magha, Purva Phalguni, and a Brief Uttara Phalguni (नक्षत्र)

Magha begins exactly where Leo begins, so the nakshatra table and the ingress table give the same instant for Mars entering both. In the first spell Mars gets as far as Purva Phalguni on 19 December 2026, makes its retrograde station inside it, and backs into Magha again on 31 January 2027. It never reaches the third nakshatra of the sign on this pass. Crossing back into Cancer puts it in Ashlesha, which fills Cancer 16°40′ – 30°00′, and the direct station is in Ashlesha too.

The second spell crosses the whole sign. Mars re-enters Magha with Leo on 26 April 2027, moves into Purva Phalguni on 2 June 2027 and reaches Uttara Phalguni on 29 June 2027, only 6 days before the Virgo ingress. Uttara Phalguni runs Leo 26°40′ – Virgo 10°00′, so Mars carries it across the sign line.

The site’s nakshatra tables give the three Leo nakshatras these lords: Magha, Ketu; Purva Phalguni, Venus; Uttara Phalguni, Sun. The last is the same graha that rules Leo, which is the one point in the whole passage where the sign lord and the nakshatra lord coincide. The crossings are given as dates only. The table rows carry no speed, and the page does not name any pada.

Mars and Jupiter Together in Leo

Jupiter gets to Leo first, on 31 October 2026, 12 days ahead of Mars; its own passage is set out on the Jupiter in Leo 2026 page. Mars, the faster of the two, closes the gap in 4 days: the conjunction table has the pair at the same sidereal longitude on 16 November 2026, about 1.7° into Leo and so inside Magha. The friendship table lists each among the other’s friends. The Mars–Jupiter conjunction page collects every meeting of the pair in the covered years.

Between the Leo entry and the Virgo exit it is the table’s only exact meeting of Mars with Jupiter, the Sun, Mercury, Venus or Saturn. But because both planets run a Leo–Cancer–Leo loop in overlapping months, they share a sign three separate times without meeting again:

  • Leo, 12 November 2026 to 25 January 2027 (74 days).
  • Cancer, 10 March 2027 to 26 April 2027 (47 days).
  • Leo, 26 June 2027 to 5 July 2027 (9 days).

Jupiter retreats into Cancer before Mars does and comes back to Leo after Mars has already returned, which is why the middle stretch is in Cancer and the last one is so short.

Counting Leo From Your Moon Sign

Gochara is counted from the janma rashi, the Moon’s sign at birth, taken as the 1st house. The table does that arithmetic for Leo and, in the last column, for Cancer, which is where Mars is during the interlude. The house names come from the site’s house tables. No row is a forecast, and this page offers none for any sign: a house names a subject, not what happens in it.

A Moon-sign count is one input to reading a transit and a thin one. The rest lives in the natal chart: the lagna and the house Leo occupies from it, what Mars rules there, any natal planet in Leo or in the three signs Mars aspects from it, and the dasha running. A transit is also not a dasha; how a Mars period is reckoned is covered in Mars mahadasha, and the Mars observances the site describes elsewhere, Tuesday fasting and Hanuman worship among them, are gathered in remedies for a weak Mars. The count is from the Moon, not the Sun sign, and the free kundli tool will tell you your Moon sign if you do not know it.

The Dates in One Paragraph

Mars moves out of Cancer and into Leo on 12 November 2026, meets Jupiter there on 16 November 2026, turns retrograde on 10 January 2027 and backs into Cancer on 10 March 2027. It turns direct in Cancer on 1 April 2027, re-enters Leo on 26 April 2027 and leaves for Virgo on 5 July 2027: 118 days and then 70 days in Leo, with 47 days in its debilitation sign between them. Where Leo Falls in Your Own Chart

Everyone gets the same dates; the house they land in depends on the birth chart. The Janam Kundli report computes yours from date, time and place of birth, with the lagna, Moon sign, the sign and house of every graha, and the dasha sequence with dates. It does not read this transit for you. It gives you the chart any reading of it would start from.
