Guru Mangal Yoga 2026-2028: Jupiter and Mars in One Sign

What the Name Covers (गुरु मंगल योग)

Guru Mangal yoga is the name astrologers give to Jupiter (Guru) and Mars (Mangal) together. Read by whole signs, “together” means the two grahas in one rashi, for as many days as both stay there, and that is the sense this page dates. Some astrologers also count the pair when each aspects the other. Under the aspect rules the site uses, Mars aspects the 4th, 7th and 8th houses from itself and Jupiter the 5th, 7th and 9th, and working through all twelve distances leaves the 7th as the only one at which the aspect runs both ways. The stretches in which they stand 7th from each other are dated further down.

One thing sets this pair apart from the other Mars and Jupiter combinations on the site. In the friendship table each lists the other as a friend, which cannot be said of Mars with Rahu (Angarak yoga) or of Jupiter with Rahu (Guru Chandal yoga): neither Mars’s row nor Jupiter’s names the node at all.

Five Shared-Sign Stretches in the Ingress Table

Comparing Jupiter’s sign with Mars’s across the site’s 2026–2028 ingress table finds five stretches. Every end is a sign change of one of the two, and both bodies come from the DE421 ephemeris, so each end is firm to the day; the page prints days and no clock times.

The first row is in progress as this page goes up. Mars came into Cancer on 18 September 2026, where Jupiter already was, and the pairing ends on 31 October 2026, when Jupiter goes ahead into Leo. Mars follows twelve days later, on 12 November 2026, and that opens the longest stretch of the five: 74 days in Leo, closing on 25 January 2027 when Jupiter, now retrograde, drops back into Cancer. Mars, also retrograde, re-enters Cancer on 10 March 2027, so the two share Cancer a second time until Mars moves forward into Leo on 26 April 2027.

The fourth stretch is a short one: Jupiter re-enters Leo on 26 June 2027, where Mars already is, and the two have 9 days before Mars goes on to Virgo. After that the pair does not share a sign until 8 December 2028, in Virgo, for 18 days. Taken as clock time, Jupiter and Mars are in one sign for 25.2% of 2026, 22.1% of 2027 and 4.8% of 2028. Those are fractions of the year’s hours, a property of the sky; they are not a count of how many people are born with the yoga.

The Exact Meeting on 16 November 2026

Inside the Leo stretch the two reach the same sidereal longitude once. The site’s conjunction table has a single Mars–Jupiter row for the whole of 2026–2028, on 16 November 2026, four days after Mars enters Leo, in Magha nakshatra. The Mars–Jupiter conjunction page gives the degree. In the other four stretches they share the sign without reaching the same degree.

Two other things happen while the pair is in Leo. Ketu is in the sign with them from 12 November 2026 until the node change on 5 December 2026, a mean-node day that can be a day out and that an almanac following the true node can put further off, and Ketu is in Cancer for the whole of the second Cancer stretch as well; that three-way overlap is set out on the Guru Ketu yuti page. And both grahas turn retrograde before the stretch ends, Jupiter on 13 December 2026 and Mars on 10 January 2027, so the last fortnight in Leo has both moving backwards. They are still both retrograde when the second Cancer stretch opens; Mars turns direct on 1 April 2027 and Jupiter on 13 April 2027. How Each Graha Stands in the Shared Signs

The planet table gives Mars Aries and Scorpio as its own signs and Jupiter Sagittarius and Pisces. None of the three shared signs is among them, so the dignity question comes down to exaltation and debilitation, and only Cancer carries either:

• Cancer: Mars is debilitated and Jupiter exalted. The sign’s lord, the Moon, is a listed friend of both.
• Leo: no listed dignity for either graha. The lord is the Sun, again a friend in both rows.
• Virgo (the 2028 stretch): no listed dignity for either. The lord is Mercury, and here both rows list the sign’s lord as an enemy.

The Cancer stretches are where this pair meets a rule astrologers apply to debilitation. The Neecha Bhanga page lists the cancellation conditions as the texts are cited, and one of them looks at the graha exalted in the debilitation sign. For Mars in Cancer that graha is Jupiter, and the condition asks whether it stands in a kendra from the lagna or the Moon. Counted from the lagna, Cancer is a kendra for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn ascendants. Whether a given chart’s debilitation is cancelled is an astrologer’s reading of the whole chart, and this page does not make it. The pair also mirror each other: Capricorn is both Mars’s exaltation sign and Jupiter’s debilitation sign, though neither graha reaches it while the other is with it in this table.

Mutual 7th: Rarer Than the Shared Sign

For astrologers who count the aspect version, the ingress table holds less of it. Mars and Jupiter were in opposite signs for one stretch already under way when the table opens, which ended on 16 January 2026, and will be again for one complete stretch, from 28 February 2028 to 12 March 2028: 13 days with Jupiter in Leo and Mars in Aquarius. Which House, Lagna by Lagna

Counting whole signs from the lagna as the 1st house, the table below gives the house that Cancer and Leo fall in for each ascendant, and the two houses each graha rules for it. Virgo, the 2028 sign, is always the house after Leo. Read the first column as a Moon sign instead and the same count gives the house from the janma rashi, which is how gochara is reckoned; the Moon sign calculator works it out from birth details. A house number is arithmetic, not a reading.

Two patterns in the lordship columns connect this pair to other named combinations. For Aries, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces lagnas one of the two is the lagna lord. What the Planet Table Associates With Each

Among its significations the planet table makes Mars the karaka of younger siblings and of land and property, and Jupiter the karaka of teachers and gurus, higher learning and dharma. An astrologer reading the pair in a chart starts from those lists and from the houses the two occupy and rule, and readers of the same chart do not always agree.
