Guru Chandal Yoga: Jupiter and Rahu, Checked for 2026-28

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

What the Name Refers To (गुरु चांडाल योग)

Guru is Jupiter, and the combination called Guru Chandal yoga is Jupiter placed in the same sign as Rahu in a birth chart. The second word of the name began as a caste slur. It is the traditional label, and this page uses it only because it is the one people search for.

Astrologers who use the name do not agree on its edges. The narrowest usage takes it to mean Jupiter and Rahu in one sign. Some extend it to Jupiter sharing a sign with Ketu, the other node. Others count an aspect between Jupiter and Rahu as enough. These are three different tests and they give three different answers for the same chart, so a statement that someone “has Guru Chandal” means little until you know which test was run. This page runs the first one on the site’s 2026–2028 ingress table, reports what the other two would find, and draws no outcome from any of them.

Not Once in 2026, 2027 or 2028

Cutting the table at every sign change of Jupiter and of the two nodes, and testing each piece for Jupiter and Rahu in one sign, gives no stretch at all. Through these three years Jupiter moves through Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra; Rahu, moving backwards as the nodes do in the site’s tables, goes from Aquarius to Capricorn to Sagittarius. The two lists have no sign in common. Under the same-sign definition, then, no chart cast for a birth in these years contains the yoga, whatever the lagna and whatever the hour of birth.

Nor do they come near it. Counted from Jupiter’s sign, Rahu stays between the 3rd and the 9th house throughout, never the 1st. The closest approach, two signs apart, comes only in the last row of the table, which opens on 26 December 2028 and runs past the table’s end; what follows that is outside the data, and this page does not guess at it.

Where Each Stood, and the Count Between Them

Each row is a stretch in which neither Jupiter nor either node changes sign. The “Rahu from Jupiter” column counts Rahu’s sign from Jupiter’s, Jupiter’s sign being the 1st; “Ketu from Jupiter” does the same for Ketu, which is always six signs on from Rahu. Dates marked * are the nodes’ sign changes. Those come from the mean node, a formula rather than a measured position, so each is a mean-node day that another almanac can put a day away.

The two 7th-house rows are the ones to look at. Rahu in the 7th from Jupiter is Rahu in the opposite sign, and since Ketu is always opposite Rahu, that puts Ketu in Jupiter’s own sign. It happens twice: in Leo from 31 October 2026 to the mean-node day 5 December 2026, and in Cancer from 25 January 2027 to 26 June 2027, a stretch whose two ends are both Jupiter’s own sign changes. Anyone who uses the wider, Ketu-inclusive version of the name would count those two stretches; the narrow version does not. The Guru-Ketu yuti page sets them out lagna by lagna.

The second of those stretches carries one more fact. The site’s planet table gives Cancer as the sign of Jupiter’s exaltation and Capricorn as the sign of its debilitation. In the Cancer stretch of 2027, Jupiter is in the first of those signs and Rahu in the second, which Rahu entered on the mean-node day 5 December 2026.

If an Aspect Is Counted Instead

The aspect version needs a rule for who aspects whom, and the site’s data is only firm in one direction. Its planet table gives Jupiter its aspects on the 5th, 7th and 9th houses counted from its own sign. For Rahu it records that traditions differ: many give Rahu Jupiter’s three aspects, while classical texts give it none. So the only aspect this page can compute without taking a side is Jupiter’s own. Rahu falls in the 5th, 7th or 9th from Jupiter in five of the eleven rows above, and measured on the clock that is 51.4% of 2026 and 51.3% of 2027, about half of each year. Those percentages are fractions of time in the sky, not of people born: they say how long the condition held, nothing about how many charts carry it.

Put the three tests side by side and the answer for a 2026–28 birth runs from never (same sign), to two stretches (with Ketu), to about half the time (Jupiter’s aspect). That spread is the practical reason to ask which definition a reading is using before giving it any weight.

What the Tradition Associates With the Two

Those who read the yoga build the reading from what each body signifies in the classical lists. The planet table makes Jupiter the karaka of teachers and gurus, higher learning and dharma, among other things, which is where the “Guru” of the name comes from. Rahu, a chhaya graha or shadow body in the same table, is the karaka of foreign lands, technology and politics, among others. Rahu’s row counts Jupiter as neutral; Jupiter’s row does not list Rahu at all, so the friendship tables say nothing from Jupiter’s side. This page reports those associations and stops there. It does not say what the combination does to a person, and it offers no remedy.

Other combinations with a node are described on the Grahan dosh page (a node with the Sun or Moon) and the Kaal Sarp dosh page. The nodes’ own movement through these years is on Rahu Ketu transit 2026–2028, and Jupiter’s on Jupiter transit 2027. The full set of yogas on the site, each with how often the sky allows it, is in the kundli yoga list.

Checking an Older Chart

For a birth before 2026 the same-sign test needs two facts from the chart: Jupiter’s sign and Rahu’s sign. Neither depends much on the hour of birth, because the site’s pace table gives Jupiter about one year in a sign and Rahu about 18 months. A birth close to a node’s sign change is the exception: there the mean-node and true-node conventions can disagree on the sign, so check which one the chart uses. The free kundli tool lists both signs from date, time and place. In Hindi: गुरु चांडाल योग: गुरु और राहु, 2026-28 की जाँच.

Jupiter and Rahu in Your Own Chart

The Janam Kundli report sets out the sign and house of Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu and every other graha in your birth chart, with your dasha periods and their dates. From it you can run any of the three tests on this page yourself. It does not grade a yoga or forecast from one.
