Jupiter in Virgo 2027-28: Guru Gochar Kanya Rashi Dates
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
Guru Enters Kanya Rashi on 26 November 2027 (गुरु का कन्या राशि में गोचर)
The sidereal tables behind this site put Jupiter’s crossing from Leo into Virgo, Kanya rashi, on 26 November 2027. That is 396 days after this page was published, a little over thirteen months ahead. The positions are computed from the DE421 planetary ephemeris, not forecast, so the distance does not make the dates guesses. Nor does it change the kind of thing the table is. It records where Jupiter is against the sidereal zodiac on each day. It is not a forecast about anyone, and nothing on this page turns a date into a prediction.
The usual shorthand, which the site’s own pace table also gives, is that Jupiter spends about one year in a sign. For Virgo the rows say something more particular. Jupiter turns retrograde inside Virgo, falls back into Leo for 147 days, and only then completes the sign. “Jupiter in Virgo” is two separate spells with a Leo gap between them, and a reader who takes the 26 November entry as the start of a continuous year is wrong about most of the first half of 2028.
How Jupiter gets to the Leo–Virgo boundary in the first place, including its retreat into Cancer on 25 January 2027 and its return to Leo on 26 June 2027, is told in Jupiter in Leo 2026 and listed year by year in Jupiter transit 2027. This page starts where those leave Leo.
The Two Spells and the Leo Gap
In date order, from the ingress, station and nakshatra tables together:
- 4 November 2027: still in Leo, Jupiter passes into Uttara Phalguni.
- 26 November 2027: enters Virgo. First spell begins.
- 12 January 2028: stations retrograde, 47 days into the sign and just over three degrees past its first point.
- 28 February 2028: moving backwards, crosses out of Virgo into Leo. First spell ends.
- 25 March 2028: still retrograde, slips back from Uttara Phalguni into Purva Phalguni.
- 14 May 2028: stations direct, in Leo.
- 2 July 2028: forward again into Uttara Phalguni.
- 24 July 2028: re-enters Virgo. Second spell begins.
- 13 September 2028: enters Hasta.
- 16 November 2028: enters Chitra.
- 26 December 2028: leaves Virgo for Libra. Second spell ends.
Counted day to day, the first spell is 94 days, the Leo gap 147 days and the second spell 155 days. Jupiter is in Virgo for 249 of the 396 days between first entry and exit, which is less than a year in total even though the calendar span is more than one. The gap in Leo is longer than the first spell. Only the second spell is forward motion from start to finish; the station falls in the first, and the 122-day retrograde window that retrogrades.js gives for 2028 runs from Virgo back into Leo. The Jupiter retrograde 2028 page sets out both stations.
The 26 December exit is not the last of Virgo either. The next Jupiter retrograde in the same table begins on 10 February 2029 in Libra and runs back into Virgo, so Jupiter returns to Virgo for a third spell in 2029. This page gives no date for that re-entry or for the final exit, because the site’s ingress table ends with 2028, and the site does not print an interpolated date. The Jupiter retrograde 2029 page has the window itself.
The Four Sign Changes, and How Firm Their Minutes Are
The site prints a minute for a sign change only when the planet is moving at 0.1° a day or more. Jupiter clears that bar at all four crossings, but not by much, and at Jupiter’s pace one arcminute of disagreement in longitude, the kind of gap two almanacs on slightly different ayanamsas can show, moves the time by between 2.3 and 3.3 hours. The times below, all IST, are best read as approximate:
| Crossing | Date and IST time | Speed | One arcminute costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Into Virgo | 26 November 2027, 18:03 | 0.131°/day | about 183 minutes |
| Into Leo (retrograde) | 28 February 2028, 20:10 | 0.122°/day | about 196 minutes |
| Into Virgo | 24 July 2028, 14:53 | 0.168°/day | about 143 minutes |
| Into Libra | 26 December 2028, 12:45 | 0.129°/day | about 186 minutes |
The softer question is the date. The return to Leo at 20:10 IST is 230 minutes before midnight, which at that speed is about 1.2 arcminutes of motion. A panchang that places Jupiter that little further back could print it on 29 February 2028, a date that exists because 2028 is a leap year. The first entry, at 18:03, is about 1.9 arcminutes from midnight and could slide to 27 November the same way. The other two crossings sit well inside their days.
None of the four sign changes is early enough in the IST day to fall on the previous date in UTC. Two other events are: the direct station on 14 May 2028 and the entry into Chitra on 16 November 2028 happen before dawn in India, so an almanac kept in UTC prints them on 13 May and 15 November. That is the same instant, not a disagreement. Stations are given here by the day only, since the planet is barely moving when it turns.
Uttara Phalguni, Hasta and Chitra (नक्षत्र)
No nakshatra begins at the first point of Virgo. Uttara Phalguni spans Leo 26°40′ – Virgo 10°00′, so it straddles the boundary, and Jupiter is already in it 22 days before the 26 November ingress. The whole of the first spell, station included, falls inside the Virgo part of Uttara Phalguni: the nakshatra table records no crossing between the two. After Jupiter backs into Leo it stays in Uttara Phalguni another 26 days before dropping into Purva Phalguni (Leo 13°20′ – 26°40′), and the direct station falls there. Taken together, the first stay in Uttara Phalguni lasts 142 days and spans both signs.
The second spell moves through three nakshatras. Jupiter comes back into Uttara Phalguni 22 days before re-entering Virgo and stays 73 days in it this time. Hasta (Virgo 10°00′ – 23°20′) is the only nakshatra wholly inside Virgo, and the 2028 rows give Jupiter a single pass of 64 days through it. Chitra (Virgo 23°20′ – Libra 6°40′) straddles the next boundary, so the last 40 days in Virgo are spent in Chitra and Jupiter is still there when it enters Libra.
- Purva Phalguni: lord Venus, deity Bhaga, symbol “Front of bed”, as the site’s nakshatra table gives them.
- Uttara Phalguni: lord Sun, deity Aryaman, symbol “Back of bed”, as the site’s nakshatra table gives them.
- Hasta: lord Moon, deity Savitar, symbol “Hand”, as the site’s nakshatra table gives them.
- Chitra: lord Mars, deity Vishvakarma, symbol “Bright jewel”, as the site’s nakshatra table gives them.
Dates only, and no pada: a pada is a quarter of a nakshatra, and at Jupiter’s speed the instant it crosses one is not something the site publishes.
Jupiter in Mercury’s Sign
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, and it is also the sign of Mercury’s exaltation, which makes it the one rashi where the lord and the exalted graha are the same. The classical friendship table does not run evenly between these two. Jupiter’s row lists Mercury among its enemies (Mercury, Venus); Mercury’s row lists Jupiter as neutral (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn). On that table alone the site’s Jupiter in Virgo reference page describes the placement as in an enemy’s sign, with the enmity running one way. Virgo is neither Jupiter’s exaltation sign (Cancer) nor its debilitation sign (Capricorn).
The Leo gap therefore changes more than the sign. For those 147 days Jupiter is back in the Sun’s sign, which the same table makes a friend’s sign, and then returns to Mercury’s. So a line about Jupiter in the spring of 2028 is a line about Jupiter in Leo, in a friend’s sign, and not about Jupiter in Virgo.
In the Parashari scheme Jupiter casts drishti on the 5th, 7th and 9th signs from its own. From Virgo those are Capricorn (the 5th), Pisces (the 7th) and Taurus (the 9th). Two of the three are signs Jupiter’s own row names: Capricorn as its debilitation sign and Pisces as one of its own. During the Leo gap the aspects shift one sign back to Sagittarius (the 5th), Aquarius (the 7th) and Aries (the 9th), and Sagittarius is the other own sign. What any aspect means for a person depends on which houses those signs are in their own chart.
Three Meetings With Mercury, Then the Sun and Venus (युति)
The conjunction table holds no Jupiter conjunction of any kind during the first spell or the Leo gap. Every one in this stretch falls in the second spell, and the Mercury rows are the reason a single date would mislead. Mercury enters Virgo on 23 August 2028 and reaches Jupiter’s longitude on 28 August 2028. It stations retrograde in Virgo on 19 September 2028 and, moving backwards, passes Jupiter a second time on 3 October 2028. It stations direct on 11 October 2028, still in Virgo, and passes Jupiter a third time on 22 October 2028, before leaving for Libra on 30 October 2028. That is one Mercury retrograde of 22 days and three conjunctions, with Virgo’s lord in its own sign for the whole 68 days it spends there. The Mercury retrograde 2028 page has that loop, and Mercury–Jupiter conjunction collects every meeting of the pair.
Between the first and second of those, the Sun reaches Jupiter on 30 September 2028. The two list each other as friends. The site does not publish the start and end of the combustion window around a Sun–Jupiter conjunction, so only the day of the conjunction itself is given. Venus enters Virgo on 23 October 2028, meets Jupiter on 10 November 2028 and leaves for Libra on 16 November 2028. Virgo is Venus’s debilitation sign in the site’s planet table, and the pair are listed unevenly again: Jupiter counts Venus an enemy, and Venus counts Jupiter neutral.
- 28 August 2028: Mercury and Jupiter, with Jupiter in Uttara Phalguni.
- 30 September 2028: Sun and Jupiter, with Jupiter in Hasta.
- 3 October 2028: Mercury and Jupiter, with Jupiter in Hasta.
- 22 October 2028: Mercury and Jupiter, with Jupiter in Hasta.
- 10 November 2028: Venus and Jupiter, with Jupiter in Hasta.
All five are given by the day. The instant of a conjunction is governed by how fast the gap between two bodies closes, and Mercury’s own speed falls to nothing at each of its two stations, which makes that closing speed change fast across these weeks; the day survives a change of ephemeris where the minute might not. The Sun–Jupiter and Jupiter–Venus conjunction pages list those two pairs across the whole table.
The House Virgo Is From Each Moon Sign (चंद्र राशि से भाव)
Gochara counts a transit from the janma rashi, the Moon’s sign at birth, taken as the 1st. The grid does that count twice: once for Virgo, and once for Leo, because the 147-day gap puts Jupiter one house back for everyone. A house names a field of life; no cell here says what happens in it, and the page makes no forecast for any sign. If you do not know your Moon sign, the Moon sign calculator works it out from birth details.
| Moon sign | Virgo (both spells) | Leo (28 February – 24 July 2028) |
|---|---|---|
| Aries (Mesha, मेष) | 6th | 5th |
| Taurus (Vrishabha, वृषभ) | 5th | 4th |
| Gemini (Mithuna, मिथुन) | 4th | 3rd |
| Cancer (Karka, कर्क) | 3rd | 2nd |
| Leo (Simha, सिंह) | 2nd | 1st |
| Virgo (Kanya, कन्या) | 1st | 12th |
| Libra (Tula, तुला) | 12th | 11th |
| Scorpio (Vrishchika, वृश्चिक) | 11th | 10th |
| Sagittarius (Dhanu, धनु) | 10th | 9th |
| Capricorn (Makara, मकर) | 9th | 8th |
| Aquarius (Kumbha, कुम्भ) | 8th | 7th |
| Pisces (Meena, मीन) | 7th | 6th |
Each number links to the site’s page for that house. A Moon-sign count is a thin input. A reading of a gochara also needs the lagna and the house Virgo falls in from it, which houses Jupiter rules for that lagna, any natal planet in Virgo or in the signs it aspects, and the dasha running at the time. A transit is not a dasha either: how a Guru period is reckoned is in Jupiter mahadasha. The observances the tradition attaches to Jupiter, with their attributions, are gathered in remedies for a weak Jupiter and Thursday fasting and Vishnu; this page adds none of its own. The rest of the planet’s data is on the Jupiter (Guru) hub.
In Short
Jupiter is in Virgo from 26 November 2027 to 28 February 2028 and again from 24 July 2028 to 26 December 2028: 94 days and 155 days, 249 in all, with 147 days back in Leo between them and a further return in 2029 that the tables do not yet date. It turns retrograde on 12 January 2028 and direct on 14 May 2028. Its conjunctions in Virgo all fall in the second spell: Mercury three times, the Sun once and Venus once.

Where Virgo Sits in Your Own Chart
Everyone gets the same dates; the house Virgo occupies differs from chart to chart. The Janam Kundli report computes your birth chart from date, time and place of birth: the lagna, Moon sign, the sign and house of each graha, and the dasha periods with their dates. It does not interpret this transit, but it gives you the chart any interpretation would have to start from.
