Samsaptak Yoga 2026-2027: Opposite Grahas and Dates

Seventh From Each Other (समसप्तक योग)

Samsaptak, “equally seventh”, is the name for two grahas in opposite signs. Unlike most distances, this one reads the same from either end: Libra is the 7th from Aries, and Aries is the 7th from Libra. That symmetry is the whole of the name. The pair can be two grahas in a birth chart or two grahas in the sky; this page lists the second kind, as they fall between November 2026 and the end of 2027.

The Parashari system gives every graha from the Sun to Saturn, the Moon included, an aspect on the 7th from itself, so the two grahas of a samsaptak pair aspect each other both ways. Three grahas have extra aspects in the planet table: Mars on the 4th and 8th, Jupiter on the 5th and 9th, Saturn on the 3rd and 10th. Working through every distance for the six grahas, opposition is the one distance at which every pair aspects both ways. The only other mutual aspect among them is between Mars and Saturn, when Saturn is the 4th from Mars and Mars the 10th from Saturn.

Shani-Mangal: 24 August 2027 to 8 October 2027

Mars and Saturn stand opposite for 45 days, with Mars in Libra and Saturn in Aries. It ends when Mars enters Scorpio. The planet table gives Aries as Saturn’s debilitation sign, so for all of this stretch Saturn is debilitated. That is the only Mars-Saturn opposition in the window, 12.2% of the clock hours of 2027. In the natural friendship table Saturn counts Mars an enemy and Mars counts Saturn neutral, a relation that runs one way only.

Guru-Shani: From 26 November 2027

Jupiter enters Virgo on 26 November 2027 with Saturn in Pisces, and the two are opposite until 23 February 2028, when Saturn enters Aries: 89 days, running past the end of 2027 into the next year. Jupiter and Saturn are neutral to each other in the friendship table. The ingress table has them opposite once more from 26 December 2028 onwards, in Libra and Aries, a stretch that is still running when the ingress table ends. Surya-Shani: 18 October 2027 to 20 October 2027

The Sun-Saturn opposition is brief: a little over two days, with the Sun in Libra and Saturn in Aries, ending when Saturn moves back into Pisces. In the planet table’s terms the arrangement is marked twice over. The Sun’s debilitation sign is Libra and Saturn’s is Aries, so both are debilitated at once, and each sits in the sign where the other is exalted (Aries for the Sun, Libra for Saturn). The two count each other enemies. Outside those two days the Sun and Saturn are not opposite at any point in the window.

The Faster Oppositions

Each of the remaining oppositions includes the Sun, Mercury or Venus, and none lasts longer than a month. Sun–Mercury, Sun–Venus, Mars–Jupiter and Mercury–Venus are never opposite in the window. Counting all fifteen pairs of the six grahas, at least one pair is samsaptak for 44.7% of the clock hours of 2027, a little under half of the year.

Rahu and Ketu

Rahu and Ketu are opposite for every hour of 2026 and 2027 in the table, because they are the two ends of one axis, so they are left out of the lists. How a Reading Uses It

The tradition reads an opposition through the significations of the two grahas involved. In the planet table the Sun is a karaka of government and authority, Saturn of karma and old age, Jupiter of higher learning, Mars of younger siblings, each among several others. Which houses of a given chart the two opposite signs occupy, counted from the lagna or the Moon, is what turns the same sky into different readings for different people, and the dashas running at the time sit alongside it.
