Saturn Transit 2027: Shani Gochar Mesh and Sade Sati
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
Saturn Reaches Aries in Three Crossings, Not One (शनि का मेष राशि में गोचर)
The Shani gochar of 2027 is often quoted as a single date. The DE421 ingress table this site computes from has three rows for it. Saturn crosses from Pisces (Meena) into Aries (Mesha) on 3 June 2027, moves backwards over the same line into Pisces on 20 October 2027, and comes forward into Aries a second time on 23 February 2028.
- First spell in Aries: 3 June 2027 to 20 October 2027, 139 days.
- Back in Pisces: 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028, 126 days.
- Aries again: from 23 February 2028. The 2028 retrograde, which begins on 23 August 2028, stays inside Aries according to the site’s retrograde table.
Against the site’s table of average pace, which gives Saturn about 2½ years per sign on a circuit of 29.46 years, the first Aries spell is short, under half a year, because the retrograde station falls only a few degrees past the boundary.
Every date here is a day, with no clock time. Saturn crosses at 0.0983°, 0.0796° and 0.0968° a day, all below the 0.1° line under which the site publishes no minute, because at that speed a sliver of ayanamsa difference moves the instant by hours.
The Stations Behind the Back-and-Forth
The run-up begins in 2026. Saturn stations direct in Pisces on 11 December 2026, ending the retrograde it began on 27 July 2026. It turns retrograde on 9 August 2027, already in Aries, backs over the boundary in October, and stations direct on 24 December 2027 inside Pisces; the same few degrees then have to be covered forward again, which is why the second Aries entry falls in February.
The retrograde is 136 days long and has its own page, Saturn retrograde 2027, with the station degrees and nakshatras. The 9 August station falls close to midnight IST, so a listing on another ephemeris or in another time zone can print the next date without either being wrong.
How This Site Counts Sade Sati and the Dhaiyas
Sade Sati is counted from the janma rashi, the Moon’s sign at birth, not the Sun sign. The site’s Sade Sati calculator uses this scheme: Saturn in the 12th sign from the Moon is the first dhaiya of Sade Sati, Saturn on the Moon’s own sign is the second, and Saturn in the 2nd is the third. Two other positions have their own names and are not part of Sade Sati: Saturn in the 4th from the Moon is Kantaka Shani, also called Ardha Ashtama Shani, and Saturn in the 8th is Ashtama Shani.
“Dhaiya” (two and a half) does double duty: the calculator uses it for each phase of Sade Sati, while popular usage, followed by the site’s Sade Sati 2026 guide, also gives the name to the 4th and 8th. The table below therefore names Kantaka and Ashtama Shani outright.
Every Moon Sign on Both Sides of the Crossing (साढ़ेसाती और ढैया)
The table counts Saturn’s sign from each Moon sign, taken as the 1st, for the three stretches; the last column repeats the first because Saturn is back in Pisces. No row is a forecast, and this page offers none for any sign.
| Moon sign | Saturn in Pisces, to 3 June | Saturn in Aries, 3 June to 20 October | Pisces again, 20 October to 23 February 2028 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries (Mesha, मेष) | Sade Sati, first dhaiya (12th) | Sade Sati, second dhaiya (1st) | Sade Sati, first dhaiya (12th) |
| Taurus (Vrishabha, वृषभ) | 11th from the Moon | Sade Sati, first dhaiya (12th) | 11th from the Moon |
| Gemini (Mithuna, मिथुन) | 10th from the Moon | 11th from the Moon | 10th from the Moon |
| Cancer (Karka, कर्क) | 9th from the Moon | 10th from the Moon | 9th from the Moon |
| Leo (Simha, सिंह) | Ashtama Shani (8th) | 9th from the Moon | Ashtama Shani (8th) |
| Virgo (Kanya, कन्या) | 7th from the Moon | Ashtama Shani (8th) | 7th from the Moon |
| Libra (Tula, तुला) | 6th from the Moon | 7th from the Moon | 6th from the Moon |
| Scorpio (Vrishchika, वृश्चिक) | 5th from the Moon | 6th from the Moon | 5th from the Moon |
| Sagittarius (Dhanu, धनु) | Kantaka Shani (4th) | 5th from the Moon | Kantaka Shani (4th) |
| Capricorn (Makara, मकर) | 3rd from the Moon | Kantaka Shani (4th) | 3rd from the Moon |
| Aquarius (Kumbha, कुम्भ) | Sade Sati, third dhaiya (2nd) | 3rd from the Moon | Sade Sati, third dhaiya (2nd) |
| Pisces (Meena, मीन) | Sade Sati, second dhaiya (1st) | Sade Sati, third dhaiya (2nd) | Sade Sati, second dhaiya (1st) |
With Saturn in Pisces the three Sade Sati signs are Aries, Aquarius and Pisces, which is what the 2026 guide gives. On 3 June every count moves forward by one house, so the set becomes Aries, Taurus and Pisces: Taurus reaches the first dhaiya, Aries moves into the second and Pisces into the third, while Aquarius has Saturn in its 3rd instead. The two other named transits shift the same way: Ashtama Shani passes from Leo to Virgo, and Kantaka Shani from Sagittarius to Capricorn.
Then the October return reverses all eight of those changes for 126 days. For an Aquarius Moon the third dhaiya is interrupted, not finished, in June; for a Taurus Moon the first dhaiya opens in June, pauses in October, and resumes in February 2028. Leo and Sagittarius return to the 8th and 4th the same way.
Aries Is Saturn’s Sign of Debilitation
The site’s planet data, which follows the classical dignity table, lists Aries as Saturn’s sign of debilitation (neecha) and Libra, the opposite sign, as its exaltation. So the June crossing takes Saturn from a sign where it has no special dignity into its debilitation sign, and the October return takes it out again for 126 days. Aries’s lord is Mars, which the friendship table counts among Saturn’s enemies (Sun, Moon, Mars); Pisces belongs to Jupiter, and Saturn and Jupiter are neutral to each other. The Saturn in Aries and Saturn in Pisces reference pages set out both placements.
What a debilitated transiting Saturn amounts to depends on the birth chart it passes through; the table records the dignity and nothing more.
Saturn’s aspects fall on the 3rd, 7th and 10th signs from it. From Pisces those are Taurus (the 3rd), Virgo (the 7th) and Sagittarius (the 10th); from Aries they are Gemini (the 3rd), Libra (the 7th) and Capricorn (the 10th). Libra receiving the 7th from Aries is arithmetic, since exaltation and debilitation signs face each other; the 10th falls on Capricorn, one of Saturn’s own signs (Capricorn and Aquarius).
Revati, Ashwini, and Back (नक्षत्र)
Until 8 February 2027 Saturn is in Uttara Bhadrapada, a nakshatra Saturn itself rules, and then enters Revati (Pisces 16°40′ – 30°00′, lord Mercury), the last nakshatra of the zodiac. Ashwini (Aries 0°00′ – 13°20′, lord Ketu) opens Aries, so each of the three sign crossings is also a Revati–Ashwini crossing at the same instant, and the whole first Aries spell stays inside Ashwini. This page names no pada.
What a Moon-Sign Table Cannot Tell You
A count from the Moon sign is one input to reading a Saturn transit, and a thin one. The natal chart decides the rest: the lagna and the house Pisces and Aries occupy from it, which houses Saturn rules for that lagna, Saturn’s own natal dignity, any planet sitting in the signs Saturn crosses or aspects, and the dasha running. A transit is also not a dasha; how a Saturn period is reckoned is in Saturn mahadasha, and the observances the tradition attaches to Saturn are gathered in the 2026 Sade Sati guide.
The Moon sign calculator works out your Moon sign from birth details, and the Sade Sati calculator shows which phase applies on the day you check it. Neither calculator gives a start or end date, and this page counts down to nothing for anyone: what it dates are Saturn’s own crossings. The planet hub at Saturn (Shani) has the rest of its data.
The Dates in One Paragraph
Saturn turns direct in Pisces on 11 December 2026, enters Revati on 8 February 2027 and crosses into Aries on 3 June 2027. It turns retrograde there on 9 August 2027, backs into Pisces on 20 October 2027, turns direct on 24 December 2027 and re-enters Aries on 23 February 2028: 139 days in Aries, then 126 days in Pisces, before the longer stay begins. In Hindi: शनि गोचर 2027: मेष राशि में प्रवेश, साढ़ेसाती और ढैया.
The Chart a Saturn Transit Is Read Against
The crossings are the same for everyone; which houses Pisces and Aries are for you is not. The Janam Kundli report computes your chart from date, time and place of birth: lagna, Moon sign, each graha’s sign and house, and the dasha sequence with dates. It does not read this transit for you. It is the chart any reading of it would begin from.
