Shrapit Dosh: Saturn With Rahu, and Why 2026-28 Has None

The Combination and the Name (श्रापित दोष)

Shrapit dosh is the name some astrologers give to Saturn and Rahu in the same sign of a birth chart. Some widen it to cover an aspect between the two as well, so two people using the term may not be running the same test. The site’s planet and sign tables carry no entry under this name, and this page does not attribute it to any one classical text.

Shrapit is the Hindi word for “cursed”. Those who use the name explain it with a story: in their account the combination marks a curse carried over from an earlier life. That is the meaning they give the label, and this page reports it as theirs. Nothing here treats a curse or a past life as an established fact, and nothing here offers a remedy or says that any puja changes a chart. What the site can add is the arithmetic: where Saturn and Rahu actually were from 2026 to 2028, and how far apart.

Saturn and Rahu Never Share a Sign in 2026–28

In the 2026–2028 ingress table Saturn is only ever in Pisces or Aries, and Rahu is in Aquarius, then Capricorn, then Sagittarius. No sign appears on both lists, so a search of the whole table for Saturn and Rahu together returns nothing. Under the same-sign definition no birth in these three years has Shrapit dosh, whatever the lagna or birth time. The same search for Saturn with Ketu also returns nothing, for anyone who asks about the other node.

How Far Apart They Stay, Row by Row

The table cuts the three years at every sign change of Saturn and of the nodes. The fifth column counts Rahu’s sign from Saturn’s, Saturn’s being the 1st; the sixth counts Ketu’s. Dates marked * are node sign changes, which the site computes on the mean node, so each is a mean-node day that can be off by one. Saturn’s own dates are given as days, not times.

At the start of the table the two are neighbours: Saturn in Pisces, Rahu in Aquarius, the 12th sign from Saturn, one sign behind it. That is the closest they come in these three years, and it lasts until the mean-node day 5 December 2026, when Rahu steps back into Capricorn, the 11th. Saturn’s entry into Aries on 3 June 2027 widens the count to the 10th. Saturn then moves back into Pisces on 20 October 2027, retrograde, which returns the count to the 11th until Saturn re-enters Aries on 23 February 2028. The last change is the nodes’ again: on the mean-node day 24 June 2028 Rahu moves into Sagittarius, and from there to the end of the table it is the 9th from Saturn.

The pattern has a simple cause. Saturn’s net movement is forward through the signs and the nodes’ is backward, so once Rahu is behind Saturn the two draw apart on that side, except for Saturn’s one retrograde step. The table ends with Rahu four signs behind Saturn, where it began one sign behind. When they next share a sign lies outside the table, and this page does not estimate it.

If an Aspect Is Counted

For those who widen the name to an aspect, the answer for 2026–28 is different, and it depends on whose aspect. The site’s planet table gives Saturn aspects on the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses from itself. Rahu in Capricorn is the 10th from Saturn in Aries, so Saturn’s aspect falls on Rahu’s sign in the two Aries rows: 3 June 2027 to 20 October 2027, and 23 February 2028 to the mean-node day 24 June 2028. On the clock that is none of 2026 and 38.1% of 2027. Those are shares of hours in the sky, not of people born in them.

Rahu’s own aspect is where the tables stop being firm. The planet table says traditions differ: many give Rahu Jupiter’s 5th, 7th and 9th, while classical texts give it no aspect. On the first view, Saturn in Aries is the 5th from Rahu in Sagittarius, so the last row would count, from 24 June 2028 onwards; on the second view nothing changes. Each Body’s Standing in These Signs

The planet table gives Aries as Saturn’s sign of debilitation (its exaltation is in Libra, and its own signs are Capricorn and Aquarius), so in every Aries row Saturn is debilitated. In Pisces it has no listed dignity; the sign’s lord, Jupiter, is neutral in Saturn’s row. For Rahu the table hedges, as it does for both nodes: Rahu has no sign of its own but co-lords Aquarius, and Sagittarius is its debilitation sign only in the minority reckoning, with Scorpio in the common one. Rahu’s row counts Saturn as a friend; Saturn’s row does not mention Rahu at all.

Saturn is the karaka of karma, labour and delay itself in the planet table, among other things, and Rahu’s list includes aviation and politics. An astrologer who reads the combination draws on those lists. This page reports them and stops; it does not say what the combination means for anyone’s life.

For an earlier birth the free kundli tool lists both signs; the site’s pace table gives Saturn about 2½ years in a sign and Rahu about 18 months, so the hour of birth rarely matters, except near a node’s sign change, where the mean-node and true-node conventions can disagree. Ask which convention any result uses before trusting a yes or a no.
