Vish Yoga: When the Moon and Saturn Share a Sign

When Vish Yog Forms (विष योग कब बनता है)

Vish, also written Visha or Vish yog, takes its name from the Sanskrit word for poison. Astrologers who use it define it by a single placement: the Moon and Saturn in the same sign of the birth chart, a chandra shani yuti. Since this site counts whole-sign houses, sharing a sign also means sharing a house, so the test needs only two signs and no birth time beyond what fixes the Moon. The site’s own planet table calls the same pairing Punarphoo, so “Punarphoo yoga” and Vish yoga refer to one placement here.

A looser reading circulates too. Some practitioners extend the name to a Moon that Saturn aspects without sharing its sign. Saturn’s entry in the planet table gives its aspects as the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses, so under that version the Moon may sit in Saturn’s sign or in the 3rd, 7th or 10th sign counted from it. Both versions are measured below; the page does not pick one as right.

About One-Twelfth of the Year, or a Third With Aspects

Intersecting the Moon’s sign changes with Saturn’s in the ingress table, the two share a sign for 7.8% of the clock hours of 2026 and 8.4% of 2027. Those figures are fractions of time in the sky, not of people or of births. They sit close to one-twelfth for an obvious reason: Saturn barely moves in a month, so the Moon simply passes through Saturn’s sign once on each circuit.

The wider rule changes the scale. Counting the aspect version as well, the condition holds for 33.4% of 2026 and 32.9% of 2027, roughly a third of all hours. That follows from the counting: the conjunction and three aspects together cover four signs out of twelve, so any Moon in one of those four qualifies. A definition met a third of the time picks out far less than the narrow one does, which is worth knowing before reading anything into it.

Saturn’s Sign Decides Which Moon Signs Qualify

Because the narrow rule asks for the Moon in Saturn’s sign, the Moon sign that carries Vish yoga at any moment is just the sign Saturn occupies. Over the tables, Saturn’s sign runs as follows. The return to Pisces in October 2027 is a retrograde move; the dates are given as days only.

So through most of the window below, a chart with a Pisces Moon is the one that meets the narrow test, while from 3 June 2027 to 20 October 2027 it is an Aries Moon. Every Stretch, November 2026 to December 2027

Here is the dated answer to “kundli mein vish yog kab banta hai” for births in the coming months. Between 1 November 2026 and 31 December 2027 the Moon and Saturn share a sign in 16 separate stretches. All but one last a little over two days, the time the Moon needs to cross one sign. The exception is 3 June 2027: the Moon had already entered Aries when Saturn arrived there that day, and the Moon left the sign within hours, so the stretch covers only part of the day. The list opens in Pisces, moves to Aries with Saturn, and returns to Pisces for the last two rows.

The rows recur at a steady beat. Measuring from one start to the next within the same sign, and leaving out the 3 June row that Saturn’s move opened, the mean gap rounds to 27 days. Vish Yoga Cancellation: Rules Vary

Authors disagree on what lifts the yoga. One family of rules turns on Jupiter, asking for it in the pair’s sign or casting an aspect on it. Another turns on the Moon itself: the planet table classes the Moon as benefic when waxing and notes that it is the graha whose nature changes month to month, and some astrologers count a bright, waxing Moon as softening the combination. The phase test needs the tithi at birth, which these tables do not hold, so it is named here and not computed.

The Jupiter test can be worked out from signs. The planet table gives Jupiter’s aspects as the 5th, 7th and 9th houses, so the rule is met when the Moon-Saturn sign is the 1st, 5th, 7th or 9th counted from Jupiter. It holds for 46.7% of the Vish hours of 2026, a little under half, and 82.9% of those of 2027, about four-fifths, and in 11 of the 16 rows in the table above. Applying it is a choice some practitioners make and others do not; the figures say how often it would apply, not whether it should.

What the Name Points To

Those who read Vish yoga treat it as a meeting of two very different karakas. The planet table lists the Moon’s significations as including the mother, water, the public and the home, and Saturn’s as including karma, labour and iron; it classes Saturn as malefic. Older descriptions of the yoga use the language its name suggests. This page does not repeat that language, does not call the yoga a cause of anything, and draws no outcome from it, narrow, wide or cancelled.
