Gochar Vedha Table: Reading a Transit From Your Moon Sign
Published 2026-10-27 | Live Pandit Ji
Gochar Is Counted From the Moon (गोचर और वेध)
A transit on its own says nothing in the classical scheme. “Saturn is in Pisces” is the same sky for everyone; what differs from person to person is which house Pisces is counted from their birth Moon sign. The gochara chapters of the texts make that count first, then ask two questions of it: is this one of the houses the text counts favourable for this graha, and if so, is the favourable transit blocked? The block is called vedha, literally a piercing or obstruction, and it is a step the site’s month-by-month transit lists do not take.
This page gives the whole table as Mantreswara’s Phaladeepika lists it, its two exemptions, and then applies it to the slow grahas’ actual signs from November 2026 to December 2027 for all twelve Moon signs. If you do not know your Moon sign, the Moon sign calculator gives it from a birth date, time and place.
The Table: Favourable Houses and Their Vedha Points
Each favourable house is paired with one vedha house. In the text’s reading, when a graha transits a favourable house from the Moon and some other graha is at the same time transiting the paired vedha house, the favourable result is obstructed. The houses not listed for a graha are the ones the text does not count favourable for it.
| Transiting graha | Favourable house from the Moon → its vedha house |
|---|---|
| Sun | 3 → 9, 6 → 12, 10 → 4, 11 → 5 |
| Moon | 1 → 5, 3 → 9, 6 → 12, 7 → 2, 10 → 4, 11 → 8 |
| Mars | 3 → 12, 6 → 9, 11 → 5 |
| Mercury | 2 → 5, 4 → 3, 6 → 9, 8 → 1, 10 → 8, 11 → 12 |
| Jupiter | 2 → 12, 5 → 4, 7 → 3, 9 → 10, 11 → 8 |
| Venus | 1 → 8, 2 → 7, 3 → 1, 4 → 10, 5 → 9, 8 → 5, 9 → 11, 11 → 3, 12 → 6 |
| Saturn | 3 → 12, 6 → 9, 11 → 5 |
A few features of the table are worth seeing before using it. Mars and Saturn share one list, three of the four upachaya houses, the 3rd, 6th and 11th, pierced from the 12th, 9th and 5th respectively. The Sun adds the 10th to the same three. Jupiter’s five favourable houses are the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th, which is why a Jupiter transit is never counted favourable in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th from the Moon. Venus has the longest list, nine houses, and the only gaps are the 6th, 7th and 10th. The Moon’s list, the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th, is the same one the site’s Chandra Bala and Chandrashtama pages use for the daily Moon.
The Two Exemptions
The Phaladeepika makes two exceptions to the rule that any other graha in the vedha house obstructs. There is no vedha between the Sun and Saturn, and none between the Moon and Mercury. Each exempt pair is a father and son in the Puranic genealogy: Saturn is the Sun’s son, and Mercury the Moon’s. So Saturn in the 9th from the Moon does not pierce the Sun’s favourable 3rd, and the Sun in the 12th does not pierce Saturn’s favourable 3rd; every other graha in those houses would.
Some later tables also run the pairing the other way, so that a graha in a favourable house is read as obstructing the unfavourable result of a transit through its paired house. That reverse reading is usually called vipreet vedha. This page tabulates only the direct case the Phaladeepika states.
Worked Case: Capricorn Moon, Saturn in Pisces
For a Moon in Capricorn, Pisces is the 3rd house. The 3rd is in Saturn’s favourable list, and its vedha point is the 12th, which counted from Capricorn is Sagittarius. So the full gochar check for this Moon sign, for as long as Saturn holds Pisces (to 3 June 2027), is: who else is in Sagittarius? From 1 November 2026 to that date, the ingress table puts these grahas there:
- Mercury: about 19 days in Sagittarius, a vedha in the text's reading.
- Venus: about 26 days in Sagittarius, a vedha in the text's reading.
- Sun: about 29 days in Sagittarius, which does not count, by the Sun–Saturn exemption.
Jupiter never reaches Sagittarius in the window, so the only obstructions are the faster grahas’ passes. That is the general pattern: a slow graha’s favourable transit lasts many months, while the fast grahas move through its vedha sign for days or weeks at a time, so in the text’s terms the transit is pierced in short stretches rather than cancelled outright. Saturn matters to a Capricorn Moon in a second way, which the Jupiter–Saturn table further down picks up: while Jupiter is in Cancer, the 7th from Capricorn and a favourable house for Jupiter, its vedha point is the 3rd, Pisces, and Saturn is sitting in it.
Jupiter From Each Moon Sign, November 2026 to December 2027
Each cell gives the house Jupiter is in counted from the Moon sign. Where that house is in Jupiter’s favourable list, the cell also gives the vedha house and the sign it falls in; a plain house number means the text does not count that house favourable for Jupiter. Jupiter turns retrograde in Leo and steps back into Cancer in January 2027 before returning to Leo, which is why Leo appears twice. The dates for each of these moves are on Jupiter transit 2027.
| Moon sign | Leo, to 25 January 2027 | Cancer, 25 January 2027 to 26 June 2027 | Leo, 26 June 2027 to 26 November 2027 | Virgo, 26 November 2027 to end-2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 5th; vedha 4th (Cancer) | 4th | 5th; vedha 4th (Cancer) | 6th |
| Taurus | 4th | 3rd | 4th | 5th; vedha 4th (Leo) |
| Gemini | 3rd | 2nd; vedha 12th (Taurus) | 3rd | 4th |

| Pisces | 6th | 5th; vedha 4th (Gemini) | 6th | 7th; vedha 3rd (Taurus) |
Saturn From Each Moon Sign, November 2026 to December 2027
The same reading for Saturn. Saturn holds Pisces into June 2027, moves into Aries, and steps back into Pisces in October 2027 while retrograde. Remember the exemption when reading the vedha column: the Sun passing through Saturn’s vedha sign does not count. The Saturn transit 2027 page covers the same moves for Sade Sati and Dhaiya.
| Moon sign | Pisces, to 3 June 2027 | Aries, 3 June 2027 to 20 October 2027 | Pisces, 20 October 2027 to end-2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 12th | 1st | 12th |
| Taurus | 11th; vedha 5th (Virgo) | 12th | 11th; vedha 5th (Virgo) |
| Gemini | 10th | 11th; vedha 5th (Libra) | 10th |
| Cancer | 9th | 10th | 9th |
| Leo | 8th | 9th | 8th |
| Virgo | 7th | 8th | 7th |
| Libra | 6th; vedha 9th (Gemini) | 7th | 6th; vedha 9th (Gemini) |
| Scorpio | 5th | 6th; vedha 9th (Cancer) | 5th |
| Sagittarius | 4th | 5th | 4th |
| Capricorn | 3rd; vedha 12th (Sagittarius) | 4th | 3rd; vedha 12th (Sagittarius) |
| Aquarius | 2nd | 3rd; vedha 12th (Capricorn) | 2nd |
| Pisces | 1st | 2nd | 1st |
When Jupiter and Saturn Obstruct Each Other
The fast grahas cross a vedha sign and leave. A slow graha sitting in another slow graha’s vedha sign is the case that lasts. Running the two tables above against each other over the window finds five such stretches:
| Moon sign | From | To | What is pierced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capricorn | 25 January 2027 | 3 June 2027 | Jupiter in the favourable 7th (Cancer), with Saturn in its vedha 3rd (Pisces) |
| Virgo | 3 June 2027 | 26 June 2027 | Jupiter in the favourable 11th (Cancer), with Saturn in its vedha 8th (Aries) |
| Scorpio | 3 June 2027 | 26 June 2027 | Saturn in the favourable 6th (Aries), with Jupiter in its vedha 9th (Cancer) |
| Aquarius | 26 June 2027 | 20 October 2027 | Jupiter in the favourable 7th (Leo), with Saturn in its vedha 3rd (Aries) |
| Taurus | 26 November 2027 | end-2027 | Saturn in the favourable 11th (Pisces), with Jupiter in its vedha 5th (Virgo) |
For the other seven Moon signs, neither slow graha pierces the other at any point in the window. These five rows are the only places in the window where the vedha table turns a long favourable transit into a long obstructed one by the slow grahas alone.
Gochar Kaise Dekhe: The Check in Four Steps
- Find your Moon sign, the sign the Moon occupied at birth, and treat it as the 1st house.
- Count forward, inclusively, to the sign the transiting graha is in. That number is the house from the Moon.
- Look the house up in the graha’s row above. If it is not listed, the text does not count that transit favourable, and vedha does not arise.
- If it is listed, count to the paired vedha house and check which grahas are in that sign over the same days, leaving out the exempt partner (Saturn for the Sun, the Sun for Saturn, Mercury for the Moon, the Moon for Mercury).
The month lists, such as grah gochar January 2027, give the signs every graha is in for each step. The tables here use whole signs throughout; a reading that also weighs a graha’s ashtakavarga bindus in the sign, as described on the ashtakavarga page, is a further layer the texts add on top of this one.
What This Page Does Not Say
“Favourable” and “obstructed” on this page are the Phaladeepika’s classification of houses, not a forecast for anyone. The page does not say what a transit will bring a reader, gives no outcome for health, money, work or relationships, and does not suggest acting on or waiting out any transit. Rahu and Ketu are left out because the site computes their sign changes from a mean node, which is not exact enough to date a vedha by.
