Saraswati Yoga: Jupiter, Venus and Mercury by Lagna
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
The Rule as Most Manuals Give It (सरस्वती योग कब बनता है)
Saraswati yoga tests three planets at once. As most manuals give it, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury must each stand in a kendra, a trikona or the 2nd house counted from the lagna. With the kendras (1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) and the trikonas (1st, 5th and 9th) taken from the site’s house table and the 2nd added, that leaves seven houses: the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th. The remaining five, the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th, are the ones all three must avoid.
The usual statement adds a condition on Jupiter: it should be in its own sign, its exaltation sign or the sign of a friend. Reading those off the planet table gives Sagittarius and Pisces as own signs, Cancer for exaltation, and, since the table lists Jupiter’s friends as the Sun, the Moon and Mars, the signs those three rule: Aries, Cancer, Leo and Scorpio. Cancer appears on both lists, so Jupiter has six qualifying signs in all: Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces. Versions of the yoga differ in their details, so this page also computes a looser form with the Jupiter condition dropped, which shows how much that one clause removes.
Why the Lagna Can Be Held Fixed
The lagna turns through all twelve signs in a day, so it cannot be measured across a year the way a planet’s sign can. Fixing it does the job instead. For each lagna below, the question is how much of the calendar year has Jupiter, Venus and Mercury placed so that a chart rising in that sign would meet the rule. That depends on the three planets alone, and the planet tables run to the end of 2028, so all three years are given. The figures are shares of clock time in the sky, not of people or of births.
Share of Each Year, Lagna by Lagna
The first three figures in each row apply the full rule; the next three drop the Jupiter sign condition. The last column lists which of Jupiter’s six qualifying signs fall in one of the seven Saraswati houses for that lagna, and so could ever satisfy both halves of the rule at once.
| Lagna | 2026 full rule | 2027 full rule | 2028 full rule | 2026 without Jupiter’s sign | 2027 without Jupiter’s sign | 2028 without Jupiter’s sign | Qualifying Jupiter signs that are in Saraswati houses from this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries (मेष) | 21.9% | 23.1% | 26.3% | 21.9% | 23.1% | 26.3% | Aries (1st), Cancer (4th), Leo (5th), Sagittarius (9th) |

| Sagittarius (धनु) | 0.0% | 16.7% | 2.7% | 12.8% | 21.3% | 28.1% | Aries (5th), Leo (9th), Sagittarius (1st), Pisces (4th) |
| Capricorn (मकर) | 22.8% | 14.6% | 0.0% | 22.8% | 14.6% | 25.0% | Aries (4th), Cancer (7th) |
| Aquarius (कुम्भ) | 9.6% | 20.4% | 27.3% | 30.7% | 20.4% | 27.3% | Leo (7th), Scorpio (10th), Pisces (2nd) |
| Pisces (मीन) | 14.8% | 8.8% | 0.0% | 21.7% | 13.9% | 16.9% | Aries (2nd), Cancer (5th), Scorpio (9th), Sagittarius (10th), Pisces (1st) |
The highest full-rule figure in the table is Cancer lagna in 2027, at 32.6%. At the other end, eight of the twelve lagnas have at least one year at exactly zero under the full rule, and in each of those the looser column for the same year is above zero except Leo in 2026. The zeros come and go with Jupiter’s sign, not with the lagna alone.
Virgo Lagna Gets Nothing From 2026 to 2028
Under the full rule, Virgo is the only lagna at zero in all three years. The last column explains it. From a Virgo lagna, just Sagittarius and Pisces of Jupiter’s qualifying signs land in Saraswati houses, as the 4th and the 7th; the other four fall in the 3rd, 8th, 11th and 12th, which the rule excludes. Taurus and Capricorn also have only two such signs, but each of them includes a sign Jupiter actually occupies in these years. Jupiter is in neither Sagittarius nor Pisces at any point from 2026 to 2028, so for Virgo the full rule never closes. The looser column shows that Mercury, Venus and Jupiter do sit in Virgo’s Saraswati houses for part of each year; it is the Jupiter clause alone that empties the row.
Jupiter’s Signs Across the Table
Jupiter passes through only five signs in the three years, so its spells decide most of the difference between the two halves of the table.
| Dates | Jupiter in | Meets the Jupiter condition |
|---|---|---|
| Already there when the table opens, to 2 June 2026 | Gemini | no |
| 2 June 2026 to 31 October 2026 | Cancer | yes, exaltation sign |
| 31 October 2026 to 25 January 2027 | Leo | yes, a friend's sign |
| 25 January 2027 to 26 June 2027 | Cancer | yes, exaltation sign |
| 26 June 2027 to 26 November 2027 | Leo | yes, a friend's sign |
| 26 November 2027 to 28 February 2028 | Virgo | no |
| 28 February 2028 to 24 July 2028 | Leo | yes, a friend's sign |
| 24 July 2028 to 26 December 2028 | Virgo | no |
| From 26 December 2028, past the end of the table | Libra | no |
Three of the signs Jupiter occupies fail the condition: Gemini, Virgo and Libra. They are ruled by Mercury and Venus, and the planet table lists those two as Jupiter’s enemies, so they are not friends’ signs; nor is any of them an own or exaltation sign. The months Jupiter spends there are removed from every row, which is why the Gemini months of 2026 and the Virgo and Libra spells are where the full and loose figures part. Only two rows come through untouched: Scorpio, from which none of those three signs is a Saraswati house, and Aries, where the only one that is (Libra, the 7th) holds Jupiter only in the last days of 2028, when Venus and Mercury are not both in place.
Venus and Mercury Stay Close to the Sun
The other two planets are tied to the Sun’s sign. Across 2026, 2027 and 2028, Mercury is never more than one sign away from the Sun, and Venus never more than two. In practice the pair moves round the zodiac with the solar month, so where the two can be at any moment is set largely by the Sun’s sign, and the Jupiter half of the rule then decides whether that moment counts. That is why the shares rise and fall from year to year for the same lagna: the Sun’s round repeats every year, while Jupiter’s sign does not.
Stretches From November 2026 to March 2027
For the five months from 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, these are the stretches in which the full rule holds for each lagna. Dates are the days the stretch begins and ends; where the window itself cuts a stretch, the edge is marked as such and is not a sign change. Across the twelve lagnas there are 20 stretches, and Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces have none in the window.
| Lagna | Stretches when the full rule holds |
|---|---|
| Aries | 1 November 2026 (window opens) to 6 November 2026; 22 November 2026 to 2 December 2026; 22 December 2026 to 1 January 2027; 24 February 2027 to 12 March 2027 |

Your lagna depends on the time and place of birth; the ascendant calculator works it out, and the free kundli tool shows the house of each graha from it. Jupiter’s sign changes in the coming year are dated on the Jupiter transit 2027 page.
The Name, and What This Page Leaves Out
The yoga takes its name from Saraswati, whom Hindu tradition reveres as the goddess of learning. Its three planets carry related significations in the site’s planet table: higher learning among Jupiter’s, speech and writing among Mercury’s, art and music among Venus’s. This page draws no outcome from it, for study, examinations or anything else; it records only when the sky allows the configuration and for which lagna.
The test on Jupiter by itself, in a kendra and in its own or exaltation sign, is the separate Hamsa yoga, and Venus and Mercury sharing a sign is Lakshmi Narayan yoga. How much of the year each classical yoga occupies is compared on the list of kundli yogas and how common they are. In Hindi: सरस्वती योग: लग्न के अनुसार गुरु, शुक्र और बुध.
