How the Yoga Is Formed (लक्ष्मी नारायण योग)

The name follows the deities the planet table attaches to the two planets: Lakshmi for Venus and Vishnu, also called Narayana, for Mercury. In its common form the yoga is formed when Venus and Mercury occupy the same sign at birth, and so, with whole-sign houses, the same house. Definitions vary between writers. Some ask in addition that the pair sit in a kendra or trikona from the lagna, or that neither planet be combust. The page measures the common form, which is the part every version shares.

The pairing is also an easy one in the classical friendship scheme: the planet table lists Mercury among Venus’s friends and Venus among Mercury’s, so neither sits with an enemy. The same table describes Mercury as neutral, a planet that takes the character of whatever it sits with, which is why astrologers who read the yoga look first at the company Mercury keeps.

When It Forms: About a Third of the Year

Measured from the DE421 ingress table, Venus and Mercury are in one sign for 34.7% of the clock hours of 2026 and 33.2% of 2027. That is time in the sky, not a count of people born with the yoga. It is common because both planets stay close to the Sun. Across the 2026-2028 table Mercury is never more than one sign from the Sun’s sign and Venus never more than two, so the two of them are never more than three signs apart and keep returning to the same one.

The Sun is often in that sign as well. A three-way Sun-Mercury-Venus share holds for 18% of 2026 and 14.9% of 2027, which is 52% of the Lakshmi Narayan hours in the first year, just over half, and 45% in the second, a little under half. In those hours the same chart also has Budhaditya, the Sun-Mercury yoga, and both inner planets are near enough the Sun for combustion to be a live question, which this site does not settle by date.

The Stretches of 2026 and 2027

In the two years the pair shares a sign in 16 stretches. The longest is the Libra stretch that begins on 26 September 2026, at about 41 days; the shortest lasts only hours. For seven of the 16 the Sun is in another sign throughout. The dignity column reads the planet table for each sign.

Virgo and Pisces: One Exalted, One Debilitated

Venus and Mercury have mirror-image dignities. The planet table gives Venus Taurus and Libra as own signs, Pisces as its exaltation sign and Virgo as its debilitation, and gives Mercury Gemini and Virgo, exaltation in Virgo and debilitation in Pisces. So in Virgo the pair is a debilitated Venus with an exalted Mercury, and in Pisces the reverse. Each happens once in these two years: Virgo from 9 September 2027 to 21 September 2027, with the Sun there for part of it, and Pisces from 15 April 2027 to 22 April 2027, with the Sun elsewhere. The own-sign cases are unevenly spread. Libra, a Venus sign, holds three stretches and Gemini, a Mercury sign, two, while Taurus holds none in 2026 or 2027. Venus in its own or exaltation sign in a kendra is the subject of Malavya yoga, and Mercury in the same condition that of Bhadra yoga.

“Lakshmi Narayan Rajyog on” a Date

News and astrology columns run headlines announcing a Lakshmi Narayan rajyog on a particular day. The date in such a headline is the start of a stretch like those above, the day one of the two planets enters the sign the other already occupies. Of the 15 stretches that open inside the table, nine open with a Venus ingress and six with a Mercury one, so a headline of this kind follows a Venus sign change more often than a Mercury one. The next one after this page’s publication opens on 22 November 2026, in Libra, when Venus re-enters it.

That kind of date is a transit: the sky as it is for everyone at once, about a third of every year. The yoga as the texts describe it is a natal condition, a feature of one birth chart fixed at the moment of birth. This page does not read a transit pairing as an event in a reader’s life, and it does not read either kind as a money signal: no chart state on this site is a reason to buy, sell or invest.

Among the significations in the planet table, Venus carries vehicles, art and music, and Mercury mathematics and students.
