Malavya Yoga: Venus in a Kendra, Lagna by Lagna

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

The Test, in One Line (मालव्य योग)

Malavya is the Venus yoga among the five that Parashara groups as the Pancha Mahapurusha, the “five great persons”. The condition is short. Venus has to be in Taurus (own sign), Libra (own sign) or Pisces (exaltation sign), and that sign has to be a kendra, meaning the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house counted from the lagna. Both halves are needed. Venus in Libra in the 2nd house is still Venus in its own sign, but it is not Malavya, and Venus in the 7th house in Aries is in a kendra but not in one of its three signs.

Because the test is only a sign and a house, the site can work it out from its own tables rather than repeat it. Everything below is computed: the sign list from the planet table, the kendras from the house table, and the dates from the DE421 ingress table. Nothing on this page says what the yoga will do for a particular person.

Every Lagna Gets Exactly One Chance

Venus’s three signs are spaced so that each lagna has exactly one of them in a kendra, never two and never none. The yoga can occur for any ascendant, but in only one house for each. The 1st-house version, Venus sitting in the lagna itself, belongs to Taurus, Libra and Pisces. The 4th is the house for Cancer, Sagittarius and Aquarius, the 7th for Aries, Virgo and Scorpio, and the 10th for Gemini, Leo and Capricorn. The last column shows the houses Venus rules for that lagna, which a reading weighs alongside the house it occupies.

Same Yoga, Different Venus

The yoga is named the same in all twelve rows, but the Venus behind it is not. For Taurus and Libra ascendants Venus is the lagna lord, so Malavya there is the chart’s own ruler in its own sign on the ascendant. For Capricorn and Aquarius it rules a kendra and a trikona together, which makes it the yogakaraka of those two charts in the tradition’s terms. For Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces one of its two houses is a dusthana, the 6th, 8th or 12th, and astrologers do not agree on how much a Mahapurusha planet that also rules a difficult house delivers. The table cannot settle that argument. It shows that there are six charts in which the question arises at all.

Directional strength draws one more line through the table. The planet table gives Venus its digbala, or directional strength, in the 4th house, and for Cancer, Sagittarius and Aquarius that is exactly where the Malavya Venus has to stand. In those three charts the yoga and the directional strength coincide; in the other nine they do not.

Each lagna’s house-by-house lordships are set out on its ascendant page, and the placement on its own is described on the reference pages for Venus in Taurus, Venus in Libra and Venus in Pisces.

When Venus Is in Its Three Signs, 2026 to 2028

A child born outside these windows cannot have Malavya, whatever the lagna. A child born inside one has it only if the lagna is one of the four that put that sign in a kendra. The lagna moves on to the next sign about every two hours on average, so on any one day inside a window the yoga is in the sky for some hours and not others. The dates are read from the ingress table, are given by the day, and run from the entry date to the day Venus leaves.

Most windows last three to four weeks, the usual pace of Venus through a sign. The exceptions are the stretches that contain a retrograde: Venus in Libra in autumn 2026 is split in two by the loop described on the Venus in Libra 2026 page, and the 28 March 2028 spell in Taurus runs 126 days for the same reason.

“Malavya Rajyog on 22 November”

Venus returns to Libra on 22 November 2026 and stays until 1 January 2027, and that is the date behind this season’s headlines about Malavya forming. In the classical definition, though, the yoga is a feature of a birth chart, fixed at the moment of birth and counted from the lagna. A transit write-up that announces Malavya for certain signs is doing something else: treating each Moon sign as the 1st house and asking whether Libra is a kendra from it. On that count the signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. That is a reasonable way to describe where transiting Venus falls for those four Moon signs, but it is not the natal yoga, and it does not hand anyone a Mahapurusha chart for 40 days.

For a birth during that stretch, the answer comes from the lagna in the usual way. A child born with one of those same four signs rising has Venus in Libra in a kendra. A child born with any of the other eight rising does not.

What the Tradition Reads Into It

The site’s planet table makes Venus the karaka of marriage, vehicles, art, music and luxury, among other things, and readings of Malavya draw on those same significations: a Venus with full dignity and a seat in an angle. The classical chapters on the five Mahapurusha natives are largely descriptions of the body, and this page does not reproduce them. Nor does it rate one person’s Malavya against another’s. A yoga in the texts is a configuration to be weighed with the rest of the chart, including the Venus mahadasha and antardasha, the aspects falling on Venus and the planets sharing its sign, and not a verdict on its own.

The other four members of the set, and how many days of 2026 to 2028 each one is available in the sky, are compared on the Pancha Mahapurusha yoga page. The general role the tradition gives Venus in a marriage chart is covered in Venus in marriage and love, and the twenty-year Venus period in Venus mahadasha.

Checking Your Own Chart

You need two facts: the sign Venus was in at your birth, and your lagna. If the lagna is unknown, the ascendant calculator finds it from the date, time and place of birth. Then find your lagna in the first table. If Venus is in the sign listed there, the sign-and-house condition is met. A birth time that is out by an hour or more can change the lagna, and with it the answer. In Hindi: मालव्य योग: केन्द्र में शुक्र, हर लग्न के लिए.

See Where Venus Sits in Your Chart

The Janam Kundli report works out your lagna and the sign and house of each graha, and lists your dasha periods with their dates, from your date, time and place of birth. That is everything the Malavya test needs. The report does not grade the yoga or forecast from it.
