graha in rashi
Venus in Taurus (Shukra in Vrishabha)
Benefic · Earth · Sthira · ruled by Venus
Venus in Taurus is in its own sign. Taurus is ruled by Venus, which is Venus itself — so the graha here is its own dispositor, and there is no third party to route its results through.
Taurus is a sthira earth sign governing the face, neck and throat, and Venus is reckoned benefic, governing love, marriage, beauty, luxury. Whatever Venus signifies — marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics — is what this rashi’s fixity holds in place.
The Dignity, Stated Precisely
- In Taurus: in its own sign.
- Venus’s own signs: Taurus and Libra.
- Exalted in: Pisces, deepest at 27°.
- Debilitated in: Virgo.
- Moolatrikona: Libra 0°–15°.
- Taurus’s lord: Venus. Taurus exalts Moon at 3° and debilitates no graha.
What Venus Aspects From Taurus
Every graha casts a full aspect on the 7th house from itself, and Venus has no special drishti beyond it, so the 7th is the whole of its reach. Counting from Taurus, that lands on:
- 7th from Taurus → Scorpio (Vrishchika), ruled by Mars.
Scorpio is not one of Venus’s own rashis, so the single aspect Venus throws from Taurus lands on Mars’s territory. Whose territory it is decides how the aspect is received.
How Far Taurus Is From Venus’s Own Ground
A graha is read partly by how far it has been displaced from the rashi it owns, and that distance is simple counting. Counting inclusively from Taurus and from Libra, Taurus falls as follows:
- 1st from Taurus — the same rashi. This is Venus’s own rashi, so there is no displacement at all.
- 8th from Libra — a 6/8 — the shashtashtaka relation, the most awkward of the twelve.
- 3rd from Pisces, the sign of its exaltation — a 3/11, the upachaya pairing.
- 9th from Virgo, the sign of its fall — a trine, the easiest of the distances.
- Opposite Taurus stands Scorpio, ruled by Mars — the rashi Venus faces from here, and therefore the one it aspects whatever else it does or does not aspect.
The Company Venus Keeps in Taurus
Dignity runs in both directions, and the rashi has its own roster. Taurus runs from 30°00′ to 60°00′ of sidereal longitude — the arc the Sun crosses about May 15 – Jun 14 — faces south, is classed female, and as an earth sign is of the Vaishya varna. Within those thirty degrees:
- Ruled by Venus — which is Venus itself.
- Exalts Moon at 3° — not Venus, so the strongest single degree of Taurus is not Venus’s.
- Debilitates no graha. No graha reaches its lowest point inside Taurus.
- Moolatrikona of Moon, 4°–30°.
So Taurus carries a fixed dignity point inside it, and the closer Venus sits to that degree the more the reading is dominated by it rather than by the sign as a whole. Taurus’s own traits — reliable, patient, devoted, stubborn, sensual — are the register in which love, marriage, beauty, luxury gets expressed when Venus sits here.
The Nine Padas Venus Crosses in Taurus
A rashi is thirty degrees and a pada is three degrees twenty minutes, so every sign holds exactly nine padas — never a round number of nakshatras. Taurus holds 3 nakshatras in whole or in part: Krittika (padas 2, 3, 4), Rohini and Mrigashira (padas 1, 2).
| Pada | Sidereal longitude | Nakshatra | Lord | Navamsa |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30°00′–33°20′ | Krittika pada 2 | Sun | Capricorn |
| 2 | 33°20′–36°40′ | Krittika pada 3 | Sun | Aquarius |
| 3 | 36°40′–40°00′ | Krittika pada 4 | Sun | Pisces |
| 4 | 40°00′–43°20′ | Rohini pada 1 | Moon | Aries |
| 5 | 43°20′–46°40′ | Rohini pada 2 | Moon | Taurus |
| 6 | 46°40′–50°00′ | Rohini pada 3 | Moon | Gemini |
| 7 | 50°00′–53°20′ | Rohini pada 4 | Moon | Cancer |
| 8 | 53°20′–56°40′ | Mrigashira pada 1 | Mars | Leo |
| 9 | 56°40′–60°00′ | Mrigashira pada 2 | Mars | Virgo |
Venus rules Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, and none of them falls in Taurus. So across all thirty degrees there is no stretch where Venus has nakshatra-level ownership to fall back on; the whole sign is read through Venus. The nakshatra lords it does cross here are Sun, Moon, Mars.
When Venus Is Actually in Taurus
This is the part of the page that is not in a textbook. Computed from the DE421 sidereal ephemeris, Venus occupies Taurus for 2 stretches inside 2026 and 2027:
- 19 April 2026 to 14 May 2026 — 25 days, after which Venus moves on to Gemini.
- 4 June 2027 to 28 June 2027 — 24 days, after which Venus moves on to Gemini.
Dates rather than clock times, because that is what a placement question needs. The ingress instants are computed and are printed on the monthly readings, where they matter for choosing a day.
Venus also combusts: within 10° of the Sun when direct, 8° when retrograde. A combust Venus in Taurus is read as weakened whatever the dignity above says, which is the standard case where the textbook verdict and the actual sky disagree.
Reading Venus in Taurus
Venus signifies marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics. In Taurus those significations are filtered through a sthira earth sign ruled by Venus, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process. In its own sign the graha needs no permission from anyone; it delivers its significations directly.
This is not a prediction, and it cannot be one: the house Taurus occupies from the ascendant, which of the nine padas above holds the graha, and the running dasha all change the answer. Venus is reckoned benefic, and it gains in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th, 11th and 12th while it struggles in the 6th and 8th, and the 7th for a benefic carrying kendradhipati dosha — so Venus in Taurus is a different placement in each of them. Under Kaal Purush Taurus is the 2nd bhava, so Venus in the 2nd house is the same pairing read from the bhava side, with the Taurus transit dated for each of the twelve ascendants.
For what Venus does when strong and when afflicted, its 20-year mahadasha, and the full remedy set, see the Venus (Shukra) page. The short form: Venus’s day is Friday, its gemstone is Diamond / White Sapphire, its mantra is Om Shukraya Namah, and its deities are Lakshmi, invoked through the Shri Suktam.
