Venus in Aries (Shukra in Mesha)
Benefic · Fire · Chara · ruled by Mars
Venus in Aries is in a neutral sign. Aries is ruled by Mars, and Venus counts Mars neutral.
The relationship runs both ways: Venus counts Mars neutral, and Mars counts Venus neutral. A mutual reading is the simpler case — the graha and its host agree about each other, so the placement does not change character depending on which of the two is stronger.
Aries is a chara fire sign governing the head, and Venus is reckoned benefic, governing love, marriage, beauty, luxury. Whatever Venus signifies — marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics — is what this rashi’s restlessness moves along.
The Dignity, Stated Precisely
- In Aries: in a neutral sign.
- Venus’s own signs: Taurus and Libra.
- Exalted in: Pisces, deepest at 27°.
- Debilitated in: Virgo.
- Moolatrikona: Libra 0°–15°.
- Aries’s lord: Mars. Aries exalts Sun at 10° and debilitates Saturn at 20°.
What Venus Aspects From Aries
Every graha casts a full aspect on the 7th house from itself, and Venus has no special drishti beyond it, so the 7th is the whole of its reach. Counting from Aries, that lands on:
- 7th from Aries → Libra (Tula), ruled by Venus. Venus rules this sign, so it is aspecting its own house from Aries.
Note the one that matters: at least one sign Venus aspects from Aries is a sign Venus itself rules. A graha aspecting its own rashi protects it, and it is the strongest single argument for reading this placement generously.
How Far Aries Is From Venus’s Own Ground
A graha is read partly by how far it has been displaced from the rashi it owns, and that distance is simple counting. Counting inclusively from Taurus and from Libra, Aries falls as follows:
- 12th from Taurus — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss axis.
- 7th from Libra — a straight opposition.
- 2nd from Pisces, the sign of its exaltation — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss axis.
- 8th from Virgo, the sign of its fall — a 6/8 — the shashtashtaka relation, the most awkward of the twelve.
- Opposite Aries stands Libra, ruled by Venus — the rashi Venus faces from here, and therefore the one it aspects whatever else it does or does not aspect.
The Company Venus Keeps in Aries
Dignity runs in both directions, and the rashi has its own roster. Aries runs from 0°00′ to 30°00′ of sidereal longitude — the arc the Sun crosses about Apr 14 – May 14 — faces east, is classed male, and as a fire sign is of the Kshatriya varna. Within those thirty degrees:
- Ruled by Mars.
- Exalts Sun at 10° — not Venus, so the strongest single degree of Aries is not Venus’s.
- Debilitates Saturn at 20°, a different graha from Venus.
- Moolatrikona of Mars, 0°–12°.
So Venus shares Aries with both an exaltation degree and a debilitation degree belonging to other grahas. A graha sitting close to either point is read against it, which is a reason the exact degree matters more in Aries than in a sign carrying neither. Aries’s own traits — courageous, energetic, assertive, impulsive, optimistic — are the register in which love, marriage, beauty, luxury gets expressed when Venus sits here.
The Nine Padas Venus Crosses in Aries
A rashi is thirty degrees and a pada is three degrees twenty minutes, so every sign holds exactly nine padas — never a round number of nakshatras. Aries holds 3 nakshatras in whole or in part: Ashwini, Bharani and Krittika (pada 1).
| Pada | Sidereal longitude | Nakshatra | Lord | Navamsa |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0°00′–3°20′ | Ashwini pada 1 | Ketu | Aries |
| 2 | 3°20′–6°40′ | Ashwini pada 2 | Ketu | Taurus |
| 3 | 6°40′–10°00′ | Ashwini pada 3 | Ketu | Gemini |
| 4 | 10°00′–13°20′ | Ashwini pada 4 | Ketu | Cancer |
| 5 | 13°20′–16°40′ | Bharani pada 1 | Venus ← | Leo |
| 6 | 16°40′–20°00′ | Bharani pada 2 | Venus ← | Virgo |
| 7 | 20°00′–23°20′ | Bharani pada 3 | Venus ← | Libra |
| 8 | 23°20′–26°40′ | Bharani pada 4 | Venus ← | Scorpio |
| 9 | 26°40′–30°00′ | Krittika pada 1 | Sun | Sagittarius |
Venus rules Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, and one of them falls inside Aries: Bharani. Those degrees are the part of Aries where Venus is on its own ground regardless of what the sign lord thinks of it — a nakshatra lordship is a second, finer layer of dignity, and it does not have to agree with the first.
When Venus Is Actually in Aries
This is the part of the page that is not in a textbook. Computed from the DE421 sidereal ephemeris, Venus occupies Aries for 2 stretches inside 2026 and 2027:
- 26 March 2026 to 19 April 2026 — 24 days, after which Venus moves on to Taurus.
- 10 May 2027 to 4 June 2027 — 25 days, after which Venus moves on to Taurus.
Dates rather than clock times, because that is what a placement question needs. The ingress instants are computed and are printed on the monthly readings, where they matter for choosing a day.
Venus also combusts: within 10° of the Sun when direct, 8° when retrograde. A combust Venus in Aries is read as weakened whatever the dignity above says, which is the standard case where the textbook verdict and the actual sky disagree.
Reading Venus in Aries
Venus signifies marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics. In Aries those significations are filtered through a chara fire sign ruled by Mars, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process. In a neutral sign they are neither helped nor hindered, which makes everything else in the chart decide.
This is not a prediction, and it cannot be one: the house Aries occupies from the ascendant, which of the nine padas above holds the graha, and the running dasha all change the answer. Venus is reckoned benefic, and it gains in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th, 11th and 12th while it struggles in the 6th and 8th, and the 7th for a benefic carrying kendradhipati dosha — so Venus in Aries is a different placement in each of them. Under Kaal Purush Aries is the 1st bhava, so Venus in the 1st house is the same pairing read from the bhava side, with the Aries transit dated for each of the twelve ascendants.
For what Venus does when strong and when afflicted, its 20-year mahadasha, and the full remedy set, see the Venus (Shukra) page. The short form: Venus’s day is Friday, its gemstone is Diamond / White Sapphire, its mantra is Om Shukraya Namah, and its deities are Lakshmi, invoked through the Shri Suktam.
