Venus in Virgo (Shukra in Kanya)

Venus in Virgo is debilitated. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, and Venus counts Mercury a friend.

The relationship runs both ways: Venus counts Mercury a friend, and Mercury counts Venus a friend. A mutual reading is the simpler case — the graha and its host agree about each other, so the placement does not change character depending on which of the two is stronger.

Virgo is a dvisvabhava earth sign governing the abdomen and intestines, and Venus is reckoned benefic, governing love, marriage, beauty, luxury. Every graha casts a full aspect on the 7th house from itself, and Venus has no special drishti beyond it, so the 7th is the whole of its reach. Counting from Virgo, that lands on:

• 7th from Virgo → Pisces (Meena), ruled by Jupiter.

Pisces is not one of Venus’s own rashis, so the single aspect Venus throws from Virgo lands on Jupiter’s territory. Whose territory it is decides how the aspect is received.

How Far Virgo Is From Venus’s Own Ground

A graha is read partly by how far it has been displaced from the rashi it owns, and that distance is simple counting. Counting inclusively from Taurus and from Libra, Virgo falls as follows:

So Virgo carries a fixed dignity point inside it, and the closer Venus sits to that degree the more the reading is dominated by it rather than by the sign as a whole. This is the part of the page that is not in a textbook. Computed from the DE421 sidereal ephemeris, Venus occupies Virgo for 3 stretches inside 2026 and 2027:

• 1 August 2026 to 2 September 2026 — 32 days, after which Venus moves on to Libra.
• 6 November 2026 to 22 November 2026 — 16 days, entered in retrograde motion, after which Venus moves on to Libra.
• 9 September 2027 to 3 October 2027 — 24 days, after which Venus moves on to Libra.

More than one stretch is the signature of retrogression: Venus enters Virgo, moves on, then loops back across the boundary and re-enters. A chart cast during the second pass is not the same as one cast during the first, because the graha is moving backwards through the same degrees it has already covered.

Venus also combusts: within 10° of the Sun when direct, 8° when retrograde. A combust Venus in Virgo is read as weakened whatever the dignity above says, which is the standard case where the textbook verdict and the actual sky disagree.

Reading Venus in Virgo

Venus signifies marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics. In Virgo those significations are filtered through a dvisvabhava earth sign ruled by Mercury, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process. At debilitation they arrive without the host’s backing, so they depend on aspects, dispositor and dasha to reach anything.

This is not a prediction, and it cannot be one: the house Virgo occupies from the ascendant, which of the nine padas above holds the graha, and the running dasha all change the answer.
