Venus in the 6th House
शत्रु भाव · Shukra · Virgo under Kaal Purush · debilitated
Venus, a benefic graha signifying marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics, placed in the bhava of enemies, diseases, debts, service, daily routine, pets, competition, legal issues — that pairing is the whole of what Venus in the 6th house means before a chart is opened. The 6th house does not look to Venus for its significations though — it looks to Mars and Saturn for conflict and disease — so Venus here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.
Under Kaal Purush the 6th Is Virgo
In the natural chart the 6th house is Virgo, so Venus here is debilitated. The bhava answers to Mercury, and the two agree about each other: each counts the other a friend, so nothing in Venus’s dealings with the lord of the 6th pulls against itself — the terms on which this bhava delivers health and diseases are set by Mercury’s own placement alone. Virgo is spanned by the second, third and fourth padas of Uttara Phalguni, Hasta and the first and second padas of Chitra, lorded in that order by the Sun, the Moon and Mars. None of the three is Venus, so Venus in the 6th always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on health and diseases than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with Venus in the same 6th house read differently.
What the 6th House’s Classification Does to Venus
The 6th is classified dusthana (malefic house); upachaya (malefics gain here). Set against Venus, a benefic graha, that classification produces:
- Dusthana. The 6th is a house of difficulty, so what suffers is love, marriage, beauty, luxury — while what gets used is Venus’s capacity to endure health and diseases rather than to enjoy it.
- Upachaya. The 6th is one of the four growing houses, where the tradition holds that malefics gain. Venus is not a malefic, so the bonus is not Venus’s to collect — it is read on ordinary terms in the 6th.
Venus is documented as struggling in the 6th, 8th, 7th, the 6th included — and any close aspect from Saturn or Rahu. Read that as where the effort goes in the 6th, not as a verdict: Venus’s dispositor and the dasha decide the outcome.
Directional strength. Venus gains digbala in the 4th, which is a 3/11, the upachaya pairing from the 6th — so in the 6th the directional component of Venus’s strength has to be made up elsewhere in the shadbala reckoning.
Which Bhavas Venus Reaches From the 6th
Venus casts only the drishti every graha has, the 7th from itself, which from the 6th means it reaches one bhava:
- The 12th, expenses, foreign lands, isolation, spiritual liberation (moksha), losses, hidden enemies — the 7th from the 6th. Venus is documented as doing well in the 12th, so this aspect strengthens a bhava it already suits.
Where the 6th Sits Relative to Venus’s Own Bhavas
- Taurus, which Venus owns, is the 2nd — a trine, the most supportive of the distances from the 6th.
- Libra, which Venus owns, is the 7th — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 6th.
- Venus exalts in Pisces, the 12th — a direct opposition from the 6th.
- The 6th is Venus’s debilitation bhava — Virgo falls here.
- Bhavat bhavam from the 6th gives the 11th, gains, income, elder siblings, fulfilment of desires, friends, networks, aspirations — a Parashari extension, read as Venus’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
- Mercury, dispositor of the 6th, also owns the 3rd — so whatever Venus does in the 6th is routed through a lord whose other business is younger siblings.
The body reading. The 6th bhava is lower abdomen, small intestine, kidneys and the waist, while Venus governs kidneys, the reproductive system, the throat, skin lustre and the eyes; medical astrology reads the 6th for Venus where those two overlap, and their not overlapping is as informative as their doing so. A framework for reading a chart, not a diagnosis.
When Venus Is Actually in Your 6th House
Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 6th house, and the ephemeris knows exactly when Venus is in it. Venus covers all twelve rashis inside 2026–2027, so the 6th-house transit happens for every ascendant — what differs is when, and for how long. The longest unbroken stretch in the table below is 65 days, which belongs to a Taurus ascendant, for whom the 6th house is Libra. Some of these stretches include a retrograde stint, which is why a few rows carry two spells in the same rashi rather than one.
| Ascendant | Your 6th house is | Venus there in 2026–2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | Virgo | 1 August 2026 – 2 September 2026; 6 November 2026 – 22 November 2026; 9 September 2027 – 3 October 2027 |
| Taurus | Libra | 2 September 2026 – 6 November 2026; 22 November 2026 – 1 January 2027; 3 October 2027 – 27 October 2027 |
| Gemini | Scorpio | 1 January 2027 – 29 January 2027; 27 October 2027 – 21 November 2027 |
| Cancer | Sagittarius | to 13 January 2026; 29 January 2027 – 24 February 2027; 21 November 2027 – 15 December 2027 |

| Capricorn | Gemini | 14 May 2026 – 8 June 2026; 28 June 2027 – 23 July 2027 |
| Aquarius | Cancer | 8 June 2026 – 4 July 2026; 23 July 2027 – 16 August 2027 |
| Pisces | Leo | 4 July 2026 – 1 August 2026; 16 August 2027 – 9 September 2027 |
Sign ingresses computed from the DE421 ephemeris, sidereal Lahiri, as days rather than instants: the ingresses of the slower bodies shift by hours between one ayanamsa and the next, so a printed minute would be false precision. “From” or “to” marks a spell already running when the tables open, or still running when they close.
Reading the 6th in an Actual Chart
Everything above is structural — true of Venus in the 6th in any chart. Four things decide what it does in yours, in this order. The rashi Venus actually occupies: the 6th house is Virgo for an Aries ascendant and for no other, because Kaal Purush is the Aries-lagna chart — the table above gives the other eleven. The lord of your 6th house and its condition, because a bhava delivers through its lord and not through its occupant. The aspects onto Venus there. And the dasha — Venus’s mahadasha runs 20 years, and a placement is largely dormant until its own period does. Where a graha sits in a bhava it is documented as struggling in, as Venus does in the 6th, the dasha is what decides whether that reads as difficulty or merely as absence.
