Venus in the 11th House

Venus, a benefic graha signifying marriage, the wife in a man's chart, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels, cosmetics, placed in the bhava of gains, income, elder siblings, fulfilment of desires, friends, networks, aspirations — that pairing is the whole of what Venus in the 11th house means before a chart is opened. The 11th house does not look to Venus for its significations though — it looks to Jupiter for gains — so Venus here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 11th Is Aquarius

In the natural chart the 11th house is Aquarius, so Venus here is in a friend's sign. The bhava answers to Saturn, and the two agree about each other: each counts the other a friend, so nothing in Venus’s dealings with the lord of the 11th pulls against itself — the terms on which this bhava delivers income and gains are set by Saturn’s own placement alone. Aquarius is spanned by the third and fourth padas of Dhanishta, Shatabhisha and the first, second and third padas of Purva Bhadrapada, lorded in that order by Mars, Rahu and Jupiter. None of the three is Venus, so Venus in the 11th always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on income and gains than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with Venus in the same 11th house read differently.

What the 11th House’s Classification Does to Venus

The 11th is classified upachaya (malefics gain here); panapara (succedent). Set against Venus, a benefic graha, that classification produces:

• Upachaya. The 11th is one of the four growing houses, where the tradition holds that malefics gain. Venus is not a malefic, so the bonus is not Venus’s to collect — it is read on ordinary terms in the 11th.

Venus’s own preferred bhavas are the 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th, 11th, 12th, and the 11th is among them — Venus is the one graha that genuinely enjoys the 12th, the house of bed and pleasure. So the classification of the 11th and the disposition of Venus point the same way, which is not true of most of the 108 combinations.

Directional strength. Venus gains digbala in the 4th, which is a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 11th — so in the 11th the directional component of Venus’s strength has to be made up elsewhere in the shadbala reckoning.

Which Bhavas Venus Reaches From the 11th

Venus casts only the drishti every graha has, the 7th from itself, which from the 11th means it reaches one bhava:

• The 5th, intelligence, children, creativity, romance, speculation, past-life merit (Poorva Punya) — the 7th from the 11th. Venus is documented as doing well in the 5th, so this aspect strengthens a bhava it already suits.

• Taurus, which Venus owns, is the 2nd — a square, both of them kendra positions from the 11th.
• Libra, which Venus owns, is the 7th — a trine, the most supportive of the distances from the 11th.
• Venus exalts in Pisces, the 12th — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 11th.
• Venus falls in Virgo, the 6th — a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 11th.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 11th gives the 9th, fortune, dharma, higher education, father, long-distance travel, gurus, philosophy — a Parashari extension, read as Venus’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Saturn, dispositor of the 11th, also owns the 10th — so whatever Venus does in the 11th is routed through a lord whose other business is career and profession.

The body reading. The 11th bhava is shins, calves, ankles and the left ear, while Venus governs kidneys, the reproductive system, the throat, skin lustre and the eyes; medical astrology reads the 11th for Venus where those two overlap, and their not overlapping is as informative as their doing so. A framework for reading a chart, not a diagnosis.

When Venus Is Actually in Your 11th House

Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 11th house, and the ephemeris knows exactly when Venus is in it. Venus covers all twelve rashis inside 2026–2027, so the 11th-house transit happens for every ascendant — what differs is when, and for how long. The longest unbroken stretch in the table below is 65 days, which belongs to a Sagittarius ascendant, for whom the 11th house is Libra. Some of these stretches include a retrograde stint, which is why a few rows carry two spells in the same rashi rather than one.
