Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga: 9th and 10th Lords
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
What the Name Means (धर्म कर्माधिपति योग)
The name is a compound of three words. Dharma is the 9th house, which the site’s house table calls the Bhagya or Dharma Bhava; karma is the 10th, the Karma Bhava, where the table glosses karma as action; adhipati means lord. So the yoga is a link between the lord of the 9th and the lord of the 10th. It is one case of the wider kendra-trikona raja yoga, since the 10th is an angle and the 9th a trine; the kendra-trikona page mentions it by name, and this page adds the dates.
Parashara’s account recognises three links between the two lords: both in one sign, each aspecting the other, or each sitting in the sign of the other, which is a parivartan, or sign exchange. This page puts none of the three above the others. Some astrologers widen the net, counting one lord placed in the other’s house without a return, or the special aspects that the planet table gives Mars (the 4th and 8th), Jupiter (the 5th and 9th) and Saturn (the 3rd and 10th). Those looser forms are named here and not counted.
How the Sky Was Measured
For each lagna the two lords were followed through the ingress table, segment by segment, with a cut at every sign change. A segment counts as a conjunction when both are in one sign, as a mutual aspect when their signs are seven apart, and as an exchange when the 9th lord stands in the 10th sign while the 10th lord stands in the 9th. The 7th-sign test is a true mutual aspect for every pair here, because each of the seven sign lords aspects the 7th in the site’s planet table. Pairs of planets were measured from 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2029, 1,096 days. The two pairs that include the Moon stop at 1 January 2028, 730 days, because the Moon table has no exit after its last row.
Those day counts describe the sky, not anyone’s chart, and they are clock time rather than a count of births. A natal yoga needs a lagna, and the lagna comes from the birth time. What a date in the lists below tells you is narrower: anyone born in that stretch with the lagna named would have the two lords linked in that way. Someone born on the same day with a different lagna would be reading a different pair.
The Pair for Each Lagna, and Its Days in the Sky
| Lagna | 9th sign and lord | 10th sign and lord | Same sign (days) | Mutual 7th (days) | Exchange (days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Sagittarius, Jupiter | Capricorn, Saturn | 0.0 | 94.5 | 0.0 |
| Taurus | Capricorn, Saturn | Aquarius, Saturn | one graha holds both houses | ||
| Gemini | Aquarius, Saturn | Pisces, Jupiter | 0.0 | 94.5 | 0.0 |
| Cancer | Pisces, Jupiter | Aries, Mars | 190.1 | 28.0 | 0.0 |
| Leo | Aries, Mars | Taurus, Venus | 205.2 | 11.8 | 0.0 |
| Virgo | Taurus, Venus | Gemini, Mercury | 330.9 | 0.0 | 14.4 |
| Libra | Gemini, Mercury | Cancer, Moon | 62.5* | 63.9* | 3.9* |
| Scorpio | Cancer, Moon | Leo, Sun | 57.2* | 61.7* | 6.2* |
| Sagittarius | Leo, Sun | Virgo, Mercury | 587.1 | 0.0 | 0.0 |
| Capricorn | Virgo, Mercury | Libra, Venus | 330.9 | 0.0 | 45.9 |
| Aquarius | Libra, Venus | Scorpio, Mars | 205.2 | 11.8 | 0.0 |
| Pisces | Scorpio, Mars | Sagittarius, Jupiter | 190.1 | 28.0 | 0.0 |
Rows without a mark cover the 1,096 days of 2026 to 2028; the starred rows cover the 730 days of 2026 and 2027 and are split by year further down. Taurus is the exception in the table: Saturn holds both the 9th and the 10th, so there is no second lord to relate to. That is the same fact the kendra-trikona page records when it names Saturn the Taurus yogakaraka.
Aries and Gemini: Jupiter and Saturn
The two lagnas share a pair with the roles reversed. For Aries, Jupiter lords the 9th (Sagittarius) and Saturn the 10th (Capricorn). For a Gemini ascendant it runs the other way: Saturn lords the 9th (Aquarius) and also the 8th, while Jupiter lords the 10th (Pisces) and also the 7th. The site’s planet table happens to list dharma among Jupiter’s significations and karma among Saturn’s, so for Aries each house has the lord whose karaka list carries its name.
In three years the two never share a sign or swap signs. They face each other across the zodiac for 94.5 days in all, in two stretches; the second runs on past the end of the table.
- mutual 7th: Jupiter in Virgo, Saturn in Pisces, seven signs apart, from 26 November 2027 to 23 February 2028 (89.0 days)
- mutual 7th: Jupiter in Libra, Saturn in Aries, seven signs apart, from 26 December 2028, and still in place when the window closes on 1 January 2029 (5.5 days inside the window)
Cancer and Pisces: Jupiter and Mars
Cancer has Jupiter for the 9th and Mars for the 10th; Pisces has Mars for the 9th and Jupiter for the 10th. The dates are the same for both lagnas, 190.1 days in one sign and 28.0 days seven signs apart, with no exchange. Four of the five shared-sign stretches fall between September 2026 and July 2027, alternating between Cancer and Leo.
- mutual 7th: Jupiter in Gemini, Mars in Sagittarius, seven signs apart, from before 1 January 2026 to 16 January 2026 (15.2 days inside the window)
- same sign: both in Cancer, from 18 September 2026 to 31 October 2026 (42.8 days)
- same sign: both in Leo, from 12 November 2026 to 25 January 2027 (73.3 days)
- same sign: both in Cancer, from 10 March 2027 to 26 April 2027 (47.5 days)
- same sign: both in Leo, from 26 June 2027 to 5 July 2027 (9.0 days)
- mutual 7th: Jupiter in Leo, Mars in Aquarius, seven signs apart, from 28 February 2028 to 12 March 2028 (12.8 days)
- same sign: both in Virgo, from 8 December 2028 to 26 December 2028 (17.6 days)
Leo and Aquarius: Mars and Venus
Leo takes Mars as the 9th lord and Venus as the 10th; Aquarius has Venus for the 9th and Mars for the 10th. The pair meets in short runs: 12 stretches, 205.2 days in one sign and 11.8 facing each other. The year 2026 has only the opening three, all over by 2 March; 2027 and 2028 carry the rest.
- same sign: both in Sagittarius, from before 1 January 2026 to 13 January 2026 (12.2 days inside the window)
- same sign: both in Capricorn, from 16 January 2026 to 6 February 2026 (20.9 days)
- same sign: both in Aquarius, from 23 February 2026 to 2 March 2026 (6.5 days)
- mutual 7th: Mars in Cancer, Venus in Capricorn, seven signs apart, from 10 March 2027 to 21 March 2027 (11.8 days)
- same sign: both in Libra, from 3 October 2027 to 8 October 2027 (4.3 days)
- same sign: both in Scorpio, from 27 October 2027 to 18 November 2027 (21.4 days)

- same sign: both in Taurus, from 31 May 2028 to 12 July 2028 (42.6 days)
- same sign: both in Gemini, from 1 August 2028 to 26 August 2028 (25.3 days)
- same sign: both in Cancer, from 31 August 2028 to 27 September 2028 (26.8 days)
- same sign: both in Leo, from 14 October 2028 to 23 October 2028 (8.6 days)
Virgo, Capricorn and Sagittarius: Pairs That Never Stand Opposite
Three lagnas pair grahas that, across the whole table, never once stand seven signs apart. Virgo’s pair is Venus (9th) and Mercury (10th); Capricorn’s is Mercury (9th) and Venus (10th). Both share a sign for 330.9 days of the three years, the conjunction treated on its own in Lakshmi Narayan yoga. The exchanges differ, because each lagna needs a different pair of signs: for Virgo, Venus in Gemini with Mercury in Taurus, which happened once, 15 May 2026 to 29 May 2026; for Capricorn, Mercury in Libra with Venus in Virgo, 45.9 days over three stretches (6 November 2026 to 22 November 2026, 21 September 2027 to 3 October 2027 and 30 October 2028 to 16 November 2028).
Sagittarius has the Sun for the 9th and Mercury for the 10th. The two share a sign for 587.1 of the 1,096 days, 53.6% of the clock time, and that conjunction is the one known as Budhaditya yoga. For this lagna, then, a Budhaditya chart and a Dharma-Karmadhipati chart by conjunction are one and the same.
The stretches that touch the coming months, 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027:
Virgo lagna: Venus and Mercury
- same sign: both in Libra, from before 1 November 2026 to 6 November 2026
- same sign: both in Libra, from 22 November 2026 to 2 December 2026
- same sign: both in Capricorn, from 24 February 2027 to 12 March 2027
- same sign: both in Aquarius, from 21 March 2027, still in place on 31 March 2027
Capricorn lagna: Mercury and Venus
- same sign: both in Libra, from before 1 November 2026 to 6 November 2026
- exchange: Mercury in Libra, Venus in Virgo, each in the other’s sign, from 6 November 2026 to 22 November 2026
- same sign: both in Libra, from 22 November 2026 to 2 December 2026
- same sign: both in Capricorn, from 24 February 2027 to 12 March 2027
- same sign: both in Aquarius, from 21 March 2027, still in place on 31 March 2027
Sagittarius lagna: the Sun and Mercury
- same sign: both in Libra, from before 1 November 2026 to 16 November 2026
- same sign: both in Scorpio, from 2 December 2026 to 16 December 2026
- same sign: both in Sagittarius, from 22 December 2026 to 10 January 2027
- same sign: both in Capricorn, from 14 January 2027 to 28 January 2027
- same sign: both in Aquarius, from 13 February 2027 to 24 February 2027
- same sign: both in Aquarius, from 12 March 2027 to 15 March 2027
Libra and Scorpio: Pairs With the Moon
When the Moon is one of the lords, the pair comes round every month, so a date list would be little more than a lunar calendar. The figures are given as days per year instead. Libra pairs Mercury (9th, Gemini) with the Moon (10th, Cancer); Scorpio pairs the Moon (9th, Cancer) with the Sun (10th, Leo).
| Lagna and pair | Year | Same sign | Mutual 7th | Exchange |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Libra: Mercury and the Moon | 2026 | 27.7 | 33.4 | 2.0 |
| Libra: Mercury and the Moon | 2027 | 34.7 | 30.4 | 1.8 |
| Scorpio: the Moon and the Sun | 2026 | 28.2 | 29.3 | 4.2 |
| Scorpio: the Moon and the Sun | 2027 | 29.0 | 32.4 | 2.0 |
For Scorpio the geometry is the lunar month itself. The Moon in the Sun’s sign falls on the Amavasya side of the month, and the Moon in the sign opposite the Sun on the Purnima side; across a year each adds up to between 28 and 33 days, two or three days a month. The exchange, Moon in Leo while the Sun is in Cancer, is possible only during the Sun’s month in Cancer, which is why it is so short.
Checking It in Your Own Chart
The check takes three steps. Find your lagna with the ascendant calculator, which needs the birth time and place. Read the 9th and 10th lords off the table above. Then see whether the two sit in one sign, in signs seven apart, or in each other’s signs; the free kundli tool gives the sign of every graha. A Taurus lagna has no pair to check.
Astrologers who use the yoga connect it with a person’s work and standing, which the site’s house table files under the 10th as career, profession and public reputation. This page draws no outcome from it, for any relation or any lagna, and the dated lists are not a forecast. The other named combinations, with how often each holds, are gathered on the kundli yoga list. In Hindi: धर्म कर्माधिपति योग: नवमेश और दशमेश.
Your 9th and 10th Lords, From Your Birth Details
The Janam Kundli report works out your lagna, the lord of each house and the sign of every graha, which is all this check uses. The separate dasha timeline lists every period with dates, these two lords’ included. Neither report grades the yoga or forecasts from it.
