• 18 September 2026 to 12 November 2026 — 55 days, after which Mars moves on to Leo.
• 10 March 2027 to 26 April 2027 — 47 days, entered in retrograde motion, after which Mars moves on to Leo.

More than one stretch is the signature of retrogression: Mars enters Cancer, moves on, then loops back across the boundary and re-enters. A chart cast during the second pass is not the same as one cast during the first, because the graha is moving backwards through the same degrees it has already covered.

Mars also combusts: within 17° of the Sun — the widest orb of any graha. A combust Mars in Cancer is read as weakened whatever the dignity above says, which is the standard case where the textbook verdict and the actual sky disagree.

Reading Mars in Cancer

Mars signifies younger siblings, land and property, weapons, surgery, engineering, the armed forces. In Cancer those significations are filtered through a chara water sign ruled by the Moon, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process.
