April 2027 Festival List: Ram Navami, Ugadi and Every Vrat

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

April 2027 starts in the last dark fortnight of the old lunar year and, within its first week, turns over into Chaitra. Gudi Padwa and Ugadi mark that turn on Wednesday 7 April, the same morning Chaitra Navratri opens; the nine days run to Ram Navami on Thursday 15 April, and Hanuman Jayanti closes the bright half on Tuesday 20 April. Around them sit Papmochani and Kamada Ekadashi, two Sunday Pradosh evenings, an Amavasya, a Sankashti Chaturthi and the monthly Shivratri, Durgashtami and Kalashtami. In the middle of the month the Sun crosses into sidereal Aries, and that crossing ends the Meena Kharmas. The table gives all 14 observances with the reading that fixes each one.

Every row is computed for New Delhi from the site’s panchang tables, which come from NASA JPL’s DE421 ephemeris under the Lahiri ayanamsa. Tithi start and end instants are from the site’s tithi calculator; tested against 86 rows of those tables, it stays within 1 minute of every one. Because a sunrise or moonrise in Chennai or Guwahati is not Delhi’s, a row near a boundary can move by a day in another city; the panchang tool works the same figures out for your own location.

Which Month Is It? Phalguna, Chaitra and Vaishakha in April

Almanacs in the amanta reckoning, which the site’s regional table assigns to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and the Telugu states, end a lunar month at the new moon. Purnimanta almanacs, the north Indian reckoning of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, end it at the full moon. April 2027 contains one of each. The new moon falls at 05:21 on Wednesday 7 April, 44 minutes ahead of the Delhi sunrise, and there amanta Phalguna ends and amanta Chaitra begins. The full moon comes at 03:57 in the small hours of Wednesday 21 April, closing the purnimanta Chaitra that opened at the full moon of 22 March and starting purnimanta Vaishakha.

The result is three bands. The four rows before the new moon, from Papmochani Ekadashi to the Amavasya, are Phalguna to a Pune or Bengaluru reader and Chaitra to a Lucknow one. The name Papmochani belongs to the dark-half Ekadashi of amanta Phalguna, the same fortnight a northern almanac heads Chaitra. For the 14 days of the bright fortnight both systems say Chaitra. After the full moon the Sankashti and the Kalashtami are Chaitra in amanta reckoning and Vaishakha in purnimanta. Amanta Vaishakha does not open until the new moon of 6 May. The Chaitra 2027 month page sets both versions of the month side by side.

The Old Year’s Last Dark Fortnight

Mars ends its retrograde run in Cancer on 1 April; for a station the site gives the day and not a minute. Papmochani Ekadashi follows on Friday 2 April. Its Krishna Ekadashi runs from 00:45, just after midnight, to 02:52 on 3 April, so it holds a single sunrise and no second date competes.

A Panchak opens at 01:32 on Saturday 3 April and lasts until 18:25 on 7 April. The next three rows all fall inside it: the Ravi Pradosh Vrat on Sunday 4 April, the Masik Shivratri on Monday 5 April, whose Krishna Chaturdashi covers that midnight, and the Amavasya on Tuesday 6 April. Mercury enters Pisces at 16:13 on the Shivratri afternoon. The Amavasya holds Tuesday’s sunrise and ends with the new moon before Wednesday’s.

Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and the First Day of Navratri

Gudi Padwa and Ugadi fall on Wednesday 7 April. The generated festival row for this day carries no rule of its own, and the site’s festival rules treat such a row as a sunrise-tithi festival. The reading is clean here: Shukla Pratipada begins with the new moon at 05:21, before the 06:05 sunrise, and ends at 04:29 the next morning, before Thursday’s. The site’s regional-calendar table lists six names for this one tithi as a new year: Nav Samvatsar, Navreh, Gudi Padwa, Samsar Padvo, Yugadi and Ugadi. The Panchak that began on 3 April ends at 18:25 that evening.

The same Pratipada is the first day of Chaitra Navratri. Counted from it, the ninth date is Ram Navami, and the eighth is the table’s Masik Durgashtami on 14 April, the Chaitra Shukla Ashtami. This list prints only those two Navratri rows; the Navratri 2027 page sets out each of the nine days. Gudi Padwa also falls inside Meena Kharmas, which has another week to run.

The Sun Enters Aries and Meena Kharmas Ends

Vinayaka Chaturthi is Saturday 10 April; the Shukla Chaturthi opens at 01:32 and closes at 23:40 on that one civil day, and its midday share decides the date. Jupiter turns direct in Cancer on 13 April, a day-only figure like the Mars station.

The Sun enters sidereal Aries at 15:23 on Wednesday 14 April, the afternoon of the Durgashtami, and the Ashtami gives way to the Navami at 15:24 the same afternoon. The site’s closure table ends the Meena Kharmas on that date. Its muhurat engine had kept every occasion but long travel closed through it, and it records no other closure in the rest of April. The solar new years in the regional-calendar table, Vaisakhi, Puthandu, Vishu, Poila Boishakh, Pana Sankranti and Bohag Bihu, are all reckoned from this one ingress. The site prints the instant and not an observance day for any of them; the Sun transit 2027 page lists every one of the year’s solar crossings.

Ram Navami on a Guru Pushya Thursday

Ram Navami is Thursday 15 April. The festival rule takes the Navami at madhyahna, the middle fifth of daylight. The Navami starts at 15:24 on 14 April, after that day’s midday stretch has closed, and ends at 13:21 on Thursday, after the midpoint of the day and inside its madhyahna, so Thursday is the only day with a share.

The Moon enters Pushya at 10:52 on 14 April and leaves it at 09:33 on 15 April, so Pushya is the nakshatra at the 05:56 Thursday sunrise. By the sunrise reading Ram Navami is a Guru Pushya day; by the vaar reading, which counts a weekday from one sunrise to the next, the passage also covers most of Wednesday. The Guru Pushya 2027 page sets the two readings out for the whole year. Venus moves into Pisces at 15:16 on Ram Navami.

Kamada Ekadashi to Hanuman Jayanti

Kamada Ekadashi, the bright Ekadashi of Chaitra in either count, is Saturday 17 April. Its tithi opens at 11:22 on 16 April and ends at 09:28 on Saturday, holding only that sunrise. The Ravi Pradosh Vrat comes the next evening, 18 April, the second Sunday Pradosh of the month.

Hanuman Jayanti is Tuesday 20 April. Like Gudi Padwa, its festival row has no rule field and is read by the sunrise tithi: the Purnima begins at 04:51, 60 minutes before the 05:51 sunrise, and ends with the full moon at 03:57 on 21 April, ahead of the 05:50 sunrise there. One sunrise, one date. The table’s Chaitra Purnima shares the day.

After the Full Moon

Mercury crosses into Aries at 08:10 on 22 April. Sankashti Chaturthi is Saturday 24 April, the evening on which New Delhi’s moonrise, at 22:26, lands inside the Krishna Chaturthi. Mars enters Leo at 11:28 on 26 April, and Kalashtami is Wednesday 28 April, its Krishna Ashtami current at that midnight. A second Panchak opens at 09:53 on 30 April, the month’s last day, and continues to 5 May.

Akshaya Tritiya is not an April observance this year; the festival table puts it on 8 May, and the May 2027 list picks up from there.
