February 2027 Vrat and Festival List: Every Date

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

Two-thirds of February 2027 is Magha, the month of the river baths, in the north Indian count. It has the spring festival of Vasant Panchami, the Sun festival of Ratha Saptami two days later, Mauni Amavasya, and Magh Purnima to close the bright fortnight. It is also a month in which three ordinary rules run into their limits: a full moon no sunrise holds, a Sankashti with no moonrise inside it, and a Pushya that is a Thursday by one reckoning and a Friday by the other. The table lists all 13 observances and the reading behind each.

27 FebruarySaturdayKalashtamiKrishna Ashtami at night.

Every date is New Delhi’s, read off the site’s generated panchang, which is computed from NASA JPL’s DE421 ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa. A tithi changes at the same moment in every Indian city; sunrise and moonrise do not, and so the rows marked with a note are the ones a regional almanac is likeliest to print a day apart.

Shattila Ekadashi to Mauni Amavasya

The month opens with four observances in five days. Shattila Ekadashi is Tuesday 2 February; the north calls its fortnight Magha and amanta calendars call it Pausha, and the Shattila page lists the six uses of sesame that give the vrat its name. The Budh Pradosh Vrat follows on Wednesday 3 February, Masik Shivratri on Thursday 4 February, and then Mauni Amavasya on Saturday 6 February. Falling on a Saturday, it is also what the almanacs call a Shanishchari Amavasya. Its name comes from mauna, silence, and north Indian custom keeps the day with a vow of silence and a river bath.

Vasant Panchami and Ratha Saptami

The bright fortnight starts inside a Panchak that runs from 10:36 on Sunday 7 February to 05:41 on Friday 12 February. Mercury turns retrograde in Aquarius during it, on 9 February. The Shukla Chaturthi of Wednesday 10 February is Magha’s, which almanacs print as Ganesh Jayanti rather than as a plain Vinayaka Chaturthi, and Vasant Panchami, the day of Saraswati Puja, follows on Thursday 11 February.

Ratha Saptami is Saturday 13 February, the Shukla Saptami the tradition keeps for Surya. By coincidence it is also the date the Sun enters sidereal Aquarius, at 10:04. The Shukla Ashtami of the next day, Sunday 14 February, is the month’s Masik Durgashtami.

Jaya Ekadashi and a Thursday Pushya

Jaya Ekadashi, which both month systems call Magha, is Wednesday 17 February, and the next evening is a Guru Pradosh Vrat. That same Thursday evening, at 21:05, the Moon enters Pushya, and it leaves at 18:35 on Friday 19 February. Whether that is a Guru Pushya depends on how the weekday is counted. A panchang’s vaar runs from one sunrise to the next, so Thursday lasts until the 06:56 sunrise of 19 February and the passage begins inside it. Read by the nakshatra at sunrise instead, Thursday’s 06:57 sunrise came hours before Pushya, and the only sunrise inside the passage is Friday’s. The Guru Pushya page shows both readings for every passage of the year and does not choose between them.

Magh Purnima: A Full Moon No Sunrise Holds

The Purnima opens at 08:00 on Saturday 20 February, after sunrise, and the full moon comes at 04:53 on 21 February, before the next sunrise. No New Delhi morning holds it, so the sunrise test has nothing to give. The table lists 20 February, the day the tithi begins, and the Magh Purnima 2027 page explains which day calendars give it, and why. In purnimanta calendars this full moon closes Magha.

A Sankashti With No Moonrise Inside It

Sankashti Chaturthi is kept until moonrise, and its date is normally the evening whose moonrise falls inside the Krishna Chaturthi. This month there is no such evening. The Chaturthi opens at 21:49 on 23 February, 52 minutes after New Delhi’s moonrise that night, and ends at 20:40 on 24 February, 79 minutes before the next moonrise. The table falls back on the sunrise day, Wednesday 24 February, the rule the festival tables use for Sakat Chauth and Karva Chauth, and the Sankashti list shows that the Moon misses the tithi in every city it covers. Mercury, still retrograde, slips back into Capricorn at 04:46 that morning, and Venus enters Capricorn at 15:11.

The month ends on Kalashtami, Saturday 27 February. Its Krishna Ashtami holds that night’s midnight easily and ends at 23:47 on 28 February, only 11 minutes short of the next night’s 23:58 test, which is why the Kalashtami list calls February its one close night. Maha Shivratri comes the following week, on Saturday 6 March.
