Moon Mahadasha, Sun Antardasha (Chandra–Surya)
6 months (classical) · 183 days (solar) · sub-period 9 of 9 in a 10-year mahadasha
The Sun antardasha is the ninth of the nine sub-periods inside the Moon mahadasha, and the last of them — it closes the Moon mahadasha, which gives way to the Mars mahadasha. 10 × 6 ÷ 120 makes the Moon–Sun sub-period 6 months on the classical year of twelve thirty-day months, which is how the texts state it, or 183 days on the solar year of 365.2425 days that the dasha calculator uses.
The Sun’s turn in the Moon mahadasha comes only after the Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu and Venus have run, which takes 9 years 6 months. Nothing of the Moon mahadasha is left once the Moon–Sun sub-period ends.
The Sun’s 6 years make every Sun antardasha 6/120 of the mahadasha containing it, so inside the Moon’s 10 years the Moon–Sun sub-period is the shortest of the nine.
The Nine Pratyantardashas of Moon–Sun
A pratyantardasha of Moon–Sun is 10 × 6 × its own lord’s years ÷ 14,400, and the nine run in cycle order starting from the Sun. Venus’s is the longest inside Moon–Sun at 30 days and the Sun’s the shortest at 9 days, on the classical year and rounded to the day.

How the Moon and the Sun Stand to Each Other
On the natural friendship table, the Moon and the Sun each count the other a friend. The Moon–Sunrelationship is mutual, so it reads the same from either lord.
Counted between the signs they own, Leo is the 2nd from the Moon’s Cancer. Whatever the ascendant, the houses the Moon rules and the houses the Sun rules sit at those same distances from each other in the chart, so the Moon–Sun sub-period always joins lordships that far apart.
The Same Pair the Other Way Round: Sun–Moon
10 × 6 equals 6 × 10, so the Moon antardasha of the Sun mahadasha is exactly as long as Moon–Sun: 6 months. Nothing else about Sun–Moon matches. It is the second sub-period of the Sun’s 6 years rather than the ninth of the Moon’s 10; it opens after 3 months 18 days of the Sun mahadasha, against 9 years 6 months here; and its pratyantars start from the Moon instead of the Sun.
What the Texts Assign to the Moon and the Sun
The karaka list the tables give the Moon, the mahadasha lord, is mother, the mind (manas), water, milk, the public, comfort and the home; for the Sun, the lord of the Moon–Sun sub-period, it is father, government, authority, the soul (atma) and administration. Parashari practice reads the sub-period through the houses each of the two owns and occupies in the birth chart, and through where the Sun stands counted from the Moon there. None of that is a forecast, and this page makes none: without a chart, Moon–Sun is a length and a position, and the 6 months above is the whole of what can be said about it in general.
A birth with the Moon in Rohini, Hasta or Shravana opens life inside the Moon mahadasha itself, part-way through, and whether the Moon–Sun sub-period is still ahead depends on how far the Moon had gone into the nakshatra. For a birth in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni or Uttara Ashadha, the Sun mahadasha comes first, and the Moon mahadasha is the next one.
The Other Sub-Periods of the Moon Mahadasha
The full table for the Moon mahadasha, with where each sub-period opens and closes, is on the Moon mahadasha page. How the Moon mahadasha is read as a whole is in our Moon mahadasha article, and the system itself in Vimshottari dasha explained. This page in Hindi: चन्द्र महादशा में सूर्य अंतर्दशा.
When does Moon–Sun run in your chart?
The dates come from the Moon’s longitude at birth. The calculator gives them; a pandit reads what the two lords hold in your chart.
