Devshayani Ekadashi (Chaturmas begins) 2028: Sunday, 2 July 2028

Devshayani Ekadashi (Chaturmas begins) in 2028 falls on Sunday, 2 July 2028. It is kept on the Shukla Ekadashi of amanta Ashadha.

Why Devshayani Ekadashi Is on 2 July in 2028

The Shukla Ekadashi begins at 01:14 on 2 July 2028 and ends at 00:04 on 3 July 2028. The 2028 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Devshayani Ekadashi tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.

On 2 July 2028 the Sun rises at 05:27 and sets at 19:23 at New Delhi. The Shukla Ekadashi is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 2 July 2028 is the day.

In 2028 the Shukla Ekadashi lasts 22 hours 50 minutes, against 26 hours 21 minutes in 2026 and 25 hours 1 minute in 2027: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 13 hours 56 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi.

When the Shukla Ekadashi begins, the Moon is in Swati, ruled by Rahu.

Devshayani Ekadashi in 2026, 2027 and 2028

Devshayani Ekadashi 2028 comes 12 days earlier in the calendar year than Devshayani Ekadashi 2027. Between Devshayani Ekadashi 2027 and Devshayani Ekadashi 2028 the lunation table has 12 new moons, and twelve lunations fall short of a solar year, so the date moves earlier.

Within six days of Devshayani Ekadashi in 2028: Guru Purnima (6 July).
