Why Devshayani Ekadashi Is on 14 July in 2027
The Shukla Ekadashi begins at 12:09 on 13 July 2027 and ends at 13:10 on 14 July 2027. The 2027 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Devshayani Ekadashi tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.
On 14 July 2027 the Sun rises at 05:32 and sets at 19:21 at New Delhi. The Shukla Ekadashi is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 14 July 2027 is the day.
In 2027 the Shukla Ekadashi lasts 25 hours 1 minute, against 26 hours 21 minutes in 2026 and 22 hours 50 minutes in 2028: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 13 hours 49 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi.
The daily panchang for 14 July 2027 gives Shukla Ekadashi at sunrise; the day before, Shukla Dashami; the day after, Shukla Dwadashi. At that sunrise the yoga is Shubha and the karana Vishti. The panchang for 14 July 2027 has the rest of the day.
When the Shukla Ekadashi begins, the Moon is in Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter. By sunrise on 14 July 2027 the daily table has it in Anuradha.
