Shukla Dwitiya · amanta Ashadha · computed for New Delhi
Jagannath Rath Yatra in 2027 falls on Monday, 5 July 2027. It is kept on the Shukla Dwitiya of amanta Ashadha.
Why Jagannath Rath Yatra Is on 5 July in 2027
The Shukla Dwitiya begins at 04:51 on 5 July 2027 and ends at 01:14 on 6 July 2027. The 2027 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Jagannath Rath Yatra tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.
On 5 July 2027 the Sun rises at 05:28 and sets at 19:22 at New Delhi. The Shukla Dwitiya is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 5 July 2027 is the day.
In 2027 the Shukla Dwitiya lasts 20 hours 23 minutes, against 21 hours 2 minutes in 2026 and 21 hours 37 minutes in 2028: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 13 hours 54 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi.
The daily panchang for 5 July 2027 gives Shukla Dwitiya at sunrise; the day before, Amavasya; the day after, Shukla Tritiya. At that sunrise the yoga is Vyaghata and the karana Balava. The panchang for 5 July 2027 has the rest of the day.
When the Shukla Dwitiya begins, the Moon is in Punarvasu, ruled by Jupiter.
