Paush Purnima 2028: Wednesday, 12 January 2028

Paush Purnima in 2028 falls on Wednesday, 12 January 2028. It is kept on the Purnima of amanta Pausha.

Why Paush Purnima Is on 12 January in 2028

The Purnima begins at 12:46 on 11 January 2028 and ends at 09:33 on 12 January 2028. The 2028 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Paush Purnima tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.

On 12 January 2028 the Sun rises at 07:15 and sets at 17:43 at New Delhi. The Purnima is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 12 January 2028 is the day.

In 2028 the Purnima lasts 20 hours 47 minutes, against 20 hours 39 minutes in 2026 and 20 hours 17 minutes in 2027: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 10 hours 28 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi. The Purnima ends at the full moon itself, 09:33 on 12 January 2028, with the Moon in Gemini and Punarvasu.

When the Purnima begins, the Moon is in Ardra, ruled by Rahu.
