Raksha Bandhan 2027: Tuesday, 17 August 2027
Shukla Purnima · amanta Shravana · computed for New Delhi
Raksha Bandhan in 2027 falls on Tuesday, 17 August 2027. It is kept on the Purnima of amanta Shravana.
Why Raksha Bandhan Is on 17 August in 2027
The Purnima begins at 10:29 on 16 August 2027 and ends at 12:58 on 17 August 2027. The 2027 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Raksha Bandhan tests the tithi at sunrise, the default test for most of the calendar.
On 17 August 2027 the Sun rises at 05:51 and sets at 18:59 at New Delhi. The Purnima is running at that sunrise, which is the test, so 17 August 2027 is the day.
In 2027 the Purnima lasts 26 hours 29 minutes, against 24 hours 39 minutes in 2026 and 25 hours 48 minutes in 2028: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 13 hours 8 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi. The Purnima ends at the full moon itself, 12:58 on 17 August 2027, with the Moon in Capricorn and Dhanishta.
The daily panchang for 17 August 2027 gives Purnima at sunrise; the day before, Shukla Chaturdashi; the day after, Krishna Pratipada. At that sunrise the yoga is Shobhana and the karana Bava. The panchang for 17 August 2027 has the rest of the day.
When the Purnima begins, the Moon is in Shravana, ruled by the Moon. By sunrise on 17 August 2027 the daily table has it in Dhanishta.
