Ram Navami 2028: Monday, 3 April 2028

Ram Navami in 2028 falls on Monday, 3 April 2028. It is kept on the Shukla Navami of amanta Chaitra.

Why Ram Navami Is on 3 April in 2028

The Shukla Navami begins at 12:00 on 3 April 2028 and ends at 10:07 on 4 April 2028. The 2028 instants are the same everywhere; only the clock they are read on changes. The rule recorded for Ram Navami tests the tithi at madhyahna, the middle part of the day between sunrise and sunset (“tithi at madhyahna”).

On 3 April 2028 the Sun rises at 06:08 and sets at 18:40 at New Delhi. The Shukla Navami is not running at sunrise on 3 April 2028; it begins at 12:00, after sunrise, and is current at the moment the rule names, which is why Ram Navami is kept that day rather than on the day that holds the tithi at dawn.

In 2028 the Shukla Navami lasts 22 hours 7 minutes, against 22 hours 18 minutes in 2026 and 21 hours 57 minutes in 2027: a tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon’s gain on the Sun, and the Moon never gains at a steady rate. The day itself runs 12 hours 32 minutes from sunrise to sunset at New Delhi, so its midpoint, the centre of madhyahna, falls near 12:24.

When the Shukla Navami begins, the Moon is in Punarvasu, ruled by Jupiter.

Ram Navami in 2026, 2027 and 2028

Ram Navami 2028 comes 12 days earlier in the calendar year than Ram Navami 2027. Between Ram Navami 2027 and Ram Navami 2028 the lunation table has 12 new moons, and twelve lunations fall short of a solar year, so the date moves earlier.

In the 2028 table Ram Navami comes 7 days after Gudi Padwa and 6 days before Hanuman Jayanti.

Within six days of Ram Navami in 2028: Hanuman Jayanti (9 April).
