26 Out of 36 Guna Milan: What a 26 Is Made Of

472 of 11,664 pairings · 4.0% · strict reading

Guna milan compares two Moon positions, and there are only 108 of them — 27 nakshatras of four padas each — so every possible pairing can be scored. Of the 11,664 bride-and-groom pairings, 247 total exactly 26 and 225 total 26.5, on the strict reading that takes the bottom of the two kootas whose middle grades lineages dispute. Together that is 4.0% of all pairings; 14.8% score 26 or more and 85.2% score less. On the generous reading of the same two kootas, 774 pairings land on 26 or 26.5.

Families commonly read 26 as “good”, the band between 25 and 32; it clears the 18 that many treat as the minimum. That threshold and those bands are a convention, not a rule in any classical text, and a total says nothing about which kootas it lost — which is what follows.

What a 26 Usually Loses

Averaged over the 472 pairings at 26 and 26.5, the guna lost to each koota are: Yoni 2.77 of 4, Bhakoot 1.87 of 7, Graha Maitri 1.56 of 5, Gana 1.07 of 6, Vashya 1.06 of 2, Tara 0.93 of 3, Varna 0.25 of 1 and Nadi 0.24 of 8. So a 26 is mostly made by what Yoni, Bhakoot, Graha Maitri, Gana, Vashya and Tara take away.

Nadi and Bhakoot at 26

14 of the 472 pairings at 26 (3.0%) score nothing on Nadi, the condition called Nadi dosha; 14 of those meet one of the recognised cancellations (the same star in different padas, the same Moon sign, or two signs with one lord). 126 (26.7%) score nothing on Bhakoot, and 126 of those have the sign lords that cancel it. A 26 with Nadi dosha and a 26 without it are different matches that print the same number, which is why the total alone is never the reading.

Which Birth Stars Produce a 26

52 pairs of birth stars produce 26 or 26.5 for at least one combination of padas and direction, including 14 pairings of a star with itself. The most frequent: Punarvasu and Swati (28), Vishakha and Shatabhisha (28), Mrigashira and Swati (16), Chitra and Shatabhisha (16), Chitra and Mula (16), Mula and Revati (16), Rohini and Anuradha (16), Hasta and Swati (16). Each pair’s page shows all sixteen pada combinations scored both ways.

To see whether your own total is a 26, and which kootas it lost, you need both Moon positions. The Free Kundli Matching tool gives the eight koota scores and the total, which is the headline answer; the Kundali Milan detailed report works the same arithmetic further from your own birth details, and its page lists what it contains.
