The five windows in Goa on 12 January 2027

In clock order through the day. Which numbered eighth of daylight Rahu Kaal, Gulika and Yamaghanta each take is fixed by the weekday rather than by the clock, and no two weekdays share the assignment: on a Tuesday Rahu Kaal is the 7th of the eight, Gulika the 5th and Yamaghanta the 3rd. Sunrise 07:04 to sunset 18:21 is 11h 17m, so an eighth of it runs 84.6 minutes and a fifteenth — which is what Abhijit is — runs 45 minutes. The Length column is the gap between two endpoints each rounded to the whole minute, which is why the three eighths below read 85 minutes apiece.

The five sunrise-derived windows for Goa on 12 January 2027, with each one’s length and definition
WindowISTLengthWhat it is
Brahma muhurat05:28–07:0496 minutesa fixed span ending at sunrise — the one row here that is not a fraction of daylight
Yamaghanta09:53–11:1885 minutesthe 3rd of eight parts of daylight
Abhijit muhurat12:20–13:0545 minutesthe 8th of fifteen parts, straddling local midday
Gulika Kaal12:43–14:0785 minutesthe 5th of eight parts of daylight
Rahu Kaal15:32–16:5685 minutesthe 7th of eight parts of daylight

The convention the classical almanacs record is that nothing new is begun inside Rahu Kaal, Gulika or Yamaghanta, and that Abhijit and Brahma muhurat are the day’s two settled windows — Brahma muhurat being the ninety-six minutes ending at sunrise, which is why it is the one window here whose length never changes with the season. What the tradition does not do is grade the rest of the day, and neither does this page. Choosing a window for a purpose needs a chart as well as a clock.

What a national panchang gets wrong in Goa today

The column on the right is the site’s own national table for 12 January 2027, computed for New Delhi from the JPL DE421 ephemeris — the numbers /panchang/2027-01-12/ actually prints. It is the same table almost every panchang in the vertical is a copy of. Every limb on it is right for Goa; every time on it is wrong, and the last column is by how much.

Abhijit muhurat12:20-13:0512:08-12:50+12 min

The widest of them on 12 January 2027 is Sunset, which a national table places 38 minutes earlier than Goa's. Longitude explains most of it: Goa sits 3.38° west of New Delhi, and four minutes per degree is the whole of the local-time correction. The rest is latitude, which does not shift sunrise so much as stretch the day — and because Rahu Kaal is a fraction of that day rather than a span on a clock, a stretched day moves the window further than it moves sunrise. That is why the difference in the table above is not one number repeated seven times.

An eighth of the day is not ninety minutes

Rahu Kaal, Gulika and Yamaghanta are each one eighth of the interval from sunrise to sunset. That is a definition, not an approximation, and it means the length of each is a property of the day rather than a fixed quantity anyone can print once. A table quoting a flat ninety minutes is therefore wrong here today by 5 minutes, and wrong in the long direction — it keeps it open past its end. Across 2027 in Goa an eighth runs from 84 minutes to 98 minutes, so the error is not a constant either. Abhijit is a fifteenth of the same interval rather than an eighth, so it runs 45 minutes today — a little over half of Rahu Kaal, and it moves with local solar noon rather than with the clock. Brahma muhurat is the exception: fixed at 96 minutes because it is defined as a span before sunrise rather than a fraction of daylight, so in Goa it shifts with sunrise and never changes length.

Where 12 January sits in Goa’s year

11h 17m of daylight is the 322nd longest of Goa’s 365 days in 2027. The year’s longest sits 106 minutes above it, on 14 June and 11 other days at the same length; its shortest 5 minutes below, on 17 December and 5 other days at the same length. Since yesterday sunrise has moved not at all, sunset 1 minute later, so the day is 1 minute longer — and every window above has moved with it. A monthly table hides that; a dated page is where it shows.

Of the 38 cities this site computes, Goa is the 21st to see the sun on 12 January 2027. Sunrise across all 38 spans 81 minutes, from 06:12 in Guwahati to 07:33 in Jammu — and Rahu Kaal’s opening spans 82 minutes, which is the more useful of the two numbers and the one no national table can carry.

These five are the same everywhere in India, and they are listed here for completeness rather than because they vary by city — a tithi is an angular relationship between the Sun and the Moon, and an angle does not have a postal address. One caveat is honest and worth stating: the almanac convention is to read each limb at sunrise, and the tabulated values above are read at New Delhi's sunrise. Goa’s sunrise is 11 minutes earlier than that, so on a day when a limb turns over inside that gap, the value current at Goa’s own sunrise is the neighbouring one. The site does not guess which days those are; where a limb is close to its boundary the honest place to look is the neighbouring-day view on the national page for 12 January 2027, which shows the days on either side for exactly this reason.

12 January 2027 in Goa and the cities nearest it

East to west, in the order the sun reaches them: Goa and the four cities nearest it, with Guwahati and Jammu, which see the sun first and last of all 38 on this date. The last column is measured from Goa, so the table differs on every page that shares this date.

Mumbai07:1415:33–16:5683 min+1 min
Jammu07:3315:11–16:2876 min−21 min

The two columns do not run in the same order, and 12 January 2027 is one of the dates where that is visible: Goa sees the sun before Jammu and still reaches Rahu Kaal 21 minutes after it. The reason is in the fourth column. Both cities take the same numbered eighth on a Tuesday, but Jammu’s eighth is 76 minutes against 85 in Goa, and several eighths of that difference accumulate before the window opens. A shorter day reaches its own afternoon sooner.

Questions about Goa on 12 January 2027

What is the Rahu Kaal in Goa on 12 January 2027?

15:32 to 16:56 IST, running 85 minutes. It is the 7th of eight parts of daylight, and on a Tuesday that is the part the convention assigns. Because it is a fraction of the interval from sunrise (07:04) to sunset (18:21) rather than a fixed clock span, both its start and its length are specific to Goa on this date.

What time is sunrise in Goa on 12 January 2027?

07:04 IST, with sunset at 18:21 — 11h 17m of daylight. Computed for 15.4909°N 73.8278°E, which is 11 minutes earlier than the New Delhi sunrise a national panchang prints for the same date.

Is the tithi different in Goa?

No. The tithi on 12 January 2027 is Shukla Chaturthi (Shukla Paksha) and the nakshatra is Shatabhisha, and both are the same everywhere in India — they are angular relationships between the Sun and the Moon, not local observations. What changes by city is every time on this page, because sunrise, sunset and the five windows derived from them are functions of latitude and longitude.

Is Rahu Kaal always ninety minutes in Goa?

No. It is one eighth of the interval from sunrise to sunset, so it changes with the date: on 12 January 2027 in Goa that eighth is 84.6 minutes, and the row above reads 85 minutes because the table prints each endpoint to the whole minute rather than the length itself. Over 2027 the figure moves far enough here that a flat ninety minutes is out by as much as 8 minutes, on nothing but the calendar.

These windows are right for Goa. Which one is right for you is a different question

Everything above is arithmetic on Goa’s sunrise, and it is correct to the minute. Whether a particular hour of 12 January 2027 suits a particular undertaking depends on your birth chart, and no page computed from a latitude can answer that.
