graha in nakshatra

Jupiter in Jyeshtha Nakshatra (Guru in ज्येष्ठा)

226°40′ – 240°00′ sidereal · Scorpio · star of Mercury

Jyeshtha, the 18th of the 27 nakshatras, covers 226°40′ – 240°00′ of the sidereal zodiac, wholly inside Scorpio. Jyeshtha is ruled by Mercury, so Jupiter in Jyeshtha stands in Mercury’s star.

Jupiter counts Mercury an enemy, while Mercury counts Jupiter neutral. The table is not symmetric, so Jupiter in Jyeshtha has to be described from both sides, as it is here. The other two nakshatras Mercury rules, Ashlesha and Revati, put Jupiter under the same star lord.

Jyeshtha 4Scorpio 26°40′ – 30°00′in a friend's signPisces (gandanta)in its own sign

By rashi, Jupiter is in a friend's sign in all four padas of Jyeshtha, because the whole nakshatra lies in Scorpio. By navamsa the four padas fall in Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Jupiter’s strongest navamsas in Jyeshtha are padas 1 (Sagittarius, in its own sign) and 4 (Pisces, in its own sign), and its weakest is pada 2 (Capricorn, debilitated).

Jyeshtha pada 4 (Scorpio 26°40′ – 30°00′) is gandanta: one of the six padas on the junction of a water sign and the fire sign after it, and Jupiter placed in that quarter of Jyeshtha sits on the junction itself.

Neither Jupiter’s deepest exaltation (Cancer) nor its deepest debilitation (Capricorn) degree falls inside Jyeshtha, and Jupiter’s moolatrikona lies outside it as well, so in Jyeshtha the rashi and navamsa verdicts above are the whole of Jupiter’s dignity.

When Jupiter Is in Jyeshtha, 2026–2028

Jupiter does not enter Jyeshtha at any point between 1 January 2026 and 1 January 2029. It stands in Punarvasu when the table opens and in Chitra when it closes, having visited 8 of the 27 nakshatras, and from Chitra Jyeshtha is 4 nakshatras further on. So Jupiter in Jyeshtha is, for these years, a birth-chart placement and not a transit anyone can wait for.

Inside Jyeshtha: what the tables locate there for Jupiter

The retrograde table runs from 2024 to 2031, wider than the ingress table, and it places one of Jupiter's stations in Jyeshtha. On 16 August 2031 Jupiter stations direct inside Jyeshtha, in pada 3. At a station Jupiter’s motion is at its slowest, so these are the days it is most nearly still in Jyeshtha.

Jyeshtha as the Setting for Jupiter

In the nakshatra tables Jyeshtha’s deity is listed as Indra and its symbol as earring; its gana is Rakshasa, and the muhurta texts put it in the Tikshna class (sharp). Those belong to Jyeshtha whichever graha is in it, and they are read on the Jyeshtha page. What changes with Jupiter is everything above: the dignities in Scorpio, the relation to Mercury, and the dates. None of it is a prediction for anyone born with Jupiter in Jyeshtha; the house it occupies and the dasha running decide what the placement does in a chart.
