Mars Retrograde, 2024 to 2031: Every Window
Mars orbits outside the Earth’s orbit. Its retrograde comes around opposition, when the Earth, moving faster on the inside track, overtakes it, and Mars appears to slide backwards against the stars until the angle changes. That is why a Mars retrograde happens with the Sun on the far side of the sky from it.
Between 2024 and 2031 the site computes 4 Mars retrogrades. Each lasts 76 to 81 days between its two stations and retraces 17.2° to 19.5° of the zodiac, and one begins every 764 to 773 days.
| Turns retrograde | Turns direct | Days | Signs | Arc |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 December 2024 | 24 February 2025 | 79 | Cancer → Gemini | 19.2° |
| 10 January 2027 | 1 April 2027 | 81 | Leo → Cancer | 19.5° |
| 14 February 2029 | 5 May 2029 | 80 | Virgo | 19.0° |
| 29 March 2031 | 13 June 2031 | 76 | Libra | 17.2° |
The dates are days, not times. Stations from 2026 and 2027 are taken from the JPL DE421 table where the two disagree; outside those years the site’s own series stands, and a station falling near midnight can be dated a day apart by another source.
