Mercury Retrograde 2027: Dates, Signs and Stations

Three windows opening in 2027 · 67 days between stations · Aquarius, Capricorn, Gemini, Libra and Virgo

Mercury turns retrograde three times in 2027: 9 February to 3 March 2027, 10 June to 5 July 2027 and 7 October to 28 October 2027. Counting only the calendar days of 2027, Mercury is retrograde on 71 of them.

The first window: 9 February to 3 March, in Aquarius and Capricorn

Mercury stations retrograde on 9 February 2027 at 11°45′ Aquarius, in Shatabhisha, and stations direct on 3 March 2027 at 26°41′ Capricorn, in Dhanishta. Between the two stations it travels back 15.1° of the zodiac over 22 days.

11°45′ Aquarius, the 9 February station, is in Shatabhisha pada 2, the Capricorn navamsa. 26°41′ Capricorn, the 3 March station, is in Dhanishta, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 5 padas, from Dhanishta pada 2 up to Shatabhisha pada 2, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 9 February, backward until 3 March, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a neutral sign in Aquarius and in a neutral sign in Capricorn.

That arc crosses a sign boundary, so the 9 February retrograde of 2027 begins in Aquarius and ends in Capricorn. The DE421 table puts Mercury’s backward re-entry into Capricorn on 24 February 2027, 15 days after it turned. Read Mercury in Capricorn for that stretch, not Mercury in Aquarius.

Inside the window Mercury also backs across a nakshatra boundary: into Dhanishta on 17 February 2027.

The Sun on 18 February 2027 at 5° Aquarius is the one conjunction the table records for Mercury during these 22 days. The meeting with the Sun is the inferior conjunction, when Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun, and it is the reason this retrograde happens when it does.

One caution on the retrograde station of this window: it falls close to midnight IST, so another ephemeris, or a listing kept in another time zone, can put 9 February 2027 on the neighbouring day without either being wrong.

It begins 108 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 24 October 2026, and 88 days after that one ended.

The second window: 10 June to 5 July, in Gemini

Mercury stations retrograde on 10 June 2027 at 12°07′ Gemini, in Ardra, and stations direct on 5 July 2027 at 3°14′ Gemini, in Mrigashira. Between the two stations it travels back 8.9° of the zodiac over 24 days.

12°07′ Gemini, the 10 June station, is in Ardra pada 2, the Capricorn navamsa. 3°14′ Gemini, the 5 July station, is in Mrigashira, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 4 padas, from Mrigashira pada 3 up to Ardra pada 2, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 10 June, backward until 5 July, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in its own sign in Gemini.

The whole 8.9° lies inside Gemini, so for the 10 June retrograde of 2027 there is no sign change to date: Mercury in Gemini covers all 24 days.

Inside the window Mercury also backs across a nakshatra boundary: into Mrigashira on 24 June 2027.

The Sun on 23 June 2027 at 7° Gemini and Venus on 1 July 2027 at 3° Gemini are the conjunctions the table records for Mercury during these 24 days. The meeting with the Sun is the inferior conjunction, when Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun, and it is the reason this retrograde happens when it does.

One caution on both stations of this window: both fall close to midnight IST, so another ephemeris, or a listing kept in another time zone, can put 10 June 2027 and 5 July 2027 on the neighbouring day without either being wrong.

It begins 121 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 9 February 2027, and 99 days after that one ended.

The third window: 7 October to 28 October, in Libra and Virgo

Mercury stations retrograde on 7 October 2027 at 10°41′ Libra, in Swati, and stations direct on 28 October 2027 at 25°04′ Virgo, in Chitra. Between the two stations it travels back 15.6° of the zodiac over 21 days.

10°41′ Libra, the 7 October station, is in Swati pada 2, the Capricorn navamsa. 25°04′ Virgo, the 28 October station, is in Chitra pada 1, the Leo navamsa. The arc between them spans 6 padas, from Chitra pada 1 up to Swati pada 2, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 7 October, backward until 28 October, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a friend's sign in Libra and exalted in Virgo.

That arc crosses a sign boundary, so the 7 October retrograde of 2027 begins in Libra and ends in Virgo. The DE421 table puts Mercury’s backward re-entry into Virgo on 21 October 2027, 14 days after it turned. Read Mercury in Virgo for that stretch, not Mercury in Libra.

Inside the window Mercury also backs across a nakshatra boundary: into Chitra on 15 October 2027.

Venus on 11 October 2027 at 9° Libra and the Sun on 19 October 2027 at 1° Libra are the conjunctions the table records for Mercury during these 21 days. The meeting with the Sun is the inferior conjunction, when Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun, and it is the reason this retrograde happens when it does.

It begins 119 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 10 June 2027, and 94 days after that one ended.

How 2027 Compares With Mercury’s Other Windows

Across the 25 Mercury retrogrades the site computes from 2024 to 2031, a window lasts 20 to 24 days between stations and retraces 8.6° to 16.3°. The 2027 windows run 22 days (15.1°), 24 days (8.9°) and 21 days (15.6°).

Every date here is a day, never a time. A planet at a station is barely moving, so the minute it turns is the least stable figure in the table; for Mercury in 2027 the day is what two careful sources will agree on.
