Uranus, Neptune, Pluto Sign Dates by Birth Year

Published 2026-10-28 | Live Pandit Ji

In the Western (tropical) zodiac, Uranus is in Gemini, Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius as this is published. In the sidereal zodiac of Indian charts, reckoned here on the Lahiri ayanamsa, the same three bodies are in Taurus, Pisces and Capricorn: one sign earlier in each case. Below are every sign entry of all three in both zodiacs from 1950 to 2050, how long each stay lasted, and a year-by-year table for looking up a birth year. Everything is computed from the JPL DE421 ephemeris, and dates are Indian calendar dates (IST).

Where the Three Are, and the Changes of 2023 to 2026

PlanetTropical sign nowNext tropical entrySidereal sign nowNext sidereal entry
UranusGeminiCancer, 3 or 4 August 2032TaurusGemini, 6 July 2031
NeptuneAriesTaurus, 21 or 22 May 2038PiscesAries, 26 or 27 June 2035
PlutoAquariusPisces, 8 or 9 March 2043CapricornAquarius, 5 or 6 March 2039

Uranus first crossed into tropical Gemini on 7 July 2025, slipped back into Taurus while retrograde on 8 November 2025, and re-entered Gemini on 26 April 2026. That closed a tropical Taurus stay which had begun on 15 or 16 May 2018. In the sidereal zodiac it made the same kind of crossing a year earlier, into Taurus on 1 June 2024, back to Aries on 13 December 2024 and into Taurus for good on 19 March 2025.

Neptune entered tropical Aries on 30 March 2025, went back to Pisces on 22 October 2025 and returned to Aries on 26 or 27 January 2026. Its last sidereal change was into Pisces on 18 or 19 February 2023.

Pluto took five crossings to settle in tropical Aquarius: in on 23 or 24 March 2023, back on 11 or 12 June 2023, in on 21 January 2024, back on 1 or 2 September 2024 and in for good on 19 or 20 November 2024. That ended its tropical Capricorn stay, which had begun on 26 January 2008. In the sidereal zodiac Pluto has been in Capricorn since 30 or 31 December 2020, with no change of sign from 2023 to now.

The table above has the first crossing of each coming change. Because of the retrograde back-and-forth, the date a planet leaves its present sign for good comes later, and the stays tables further down give it: tropical Uranus will leave Gemini for good on 22 May 2033, Neptune Aries on 23 or 24 March 2039 and Pluto Aquarius on 19 January 2044.

Why the Two Zodiacs Give Different Signs

The tropical zodiac starts its Aries at the March equinox point; the sidereal zodiac starts it against the stars. The gap between the two starting points is the ayanamsa, and over 1950–2050 it grows from 23.2° to 24.6° (read here off the two sets of station longitudes in the data). That is under one sign, so a planet’s tropical sign is either its sidereal sign or the one after it, never the one before. The ayanamsa page gives the Lahiri formula the site uses.

Counting day by day across the span, the two zodiacs name the same sign for Uranus on 19% of days, for Neptune on 21% and for Pluto on 22%: about a fifth of the time. Those are the days when the planet is in roughly the first 5.4 to 6.8 degrees of a sidereal sign, which is about a fifth of a 30° sign. On the other four days in five, a Western chart and an Indian chart put it in neighbouring signs. The Sun does the same thing on a yearly cycle, which the Vedic Sun sign dates page sets out month by month.

How Long Each Stays in a Sign

A stay below runs from the first crossing into a sign to the last crossing out of it. Counting only the stays that begin and end inside the span, Uranus spends 6.9 to 8.8 years in a tropical sign (6.9 to 8.8 sidereal), Neptune 14.0 to 14.9 (14.8 to 14.9 sidereal) and Pluto 12.0 to 20.8 (12.8 to 19.9 sidereal). Pluto’s stays vary far more than the other two because its orbit is markedly eccentric: its longest tropical stay in this span, Aquarius, is 20.8 years, its shortest, Scorpio, 12.0. These are the figures for 1950–2050 only; a Pluto stay outside the span can differ from both. The how long each planet stays in a sign page asks the same question of the nine grahas.

One sidereal Uranus stay is left uncounted: Leo from 16 September 2044. Uranus will first cross out of it into Virgo on 14 November 2050, but its retrograde station of 30 December 2050 will lie less than one retrograde loop past the boundary, so the back-and-forth over that boundary does not finish inside the span and the stay has no final exit date here.

Why the Entries Come in Threes and Fives

Each of the three turns retrograde about once a year (the retrograde stations come 366 to 370 days apart), around the time the Earth passes between it and the Sun, and runs back over a short arc before turning direct again. When a sign boundary lies inside that arc, the planet crosses it forwards, crosses it back while retrograde, and crosses it forwards again after it turns direct: three entries for one change of sign, spread over 269 to 316 days.

Uranus runs back 3.9° to 4.2° each time, and its direct stations sit 3.9° to 4.8° apart from one year to the next, so in this span no Uranus loop reaches back over ground the previous one covered. A boundary then falls either inside one loop or in the gap between two; of the 28 settled Uranus sign changes in the two zodiacs together, 25 took three crossings and 3 only one.

Neptune runs back about 2.8° but advances only about 2.2° a year; Pluto runs back 2.2° to 2.8° and advances 1.3° to 2.6°. Every loop of either planet in the span overlaps the one before it, so every boundary lies inside at least one loop and in this span neither changes sign with a single crossing. Where a boundary lies inside two overlapping loops, the crossings come in fives over 589 to 608 days: 3 of Neptune’s 15 sign changes and 3 of Pluto’s 14. The retrograde stations of 2026–2028 themselves are dated on the Uranus, Neptune and Pluto retrograde page, and the site’s retrograde section covers the five visible planets from Mercury to Saturn.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto by Birth Year, 1950 to 2050

Each cell starts with the sign held at the start of 1 January (IST) and adds every sign entered during the year, in order, so “Taurus / Gemini” is a change in that year and “Taurus / Gemini / Taurus” a crossing and a retrograde return inside the same year. Of the 101 years, Uranus holds one tropical sign all year in 76, Neptune in 89 and Pluto in 88; in the sidereal zodiac the counts are 77, 86 and 88. All three hold one sign all year in 61 years tropically and 58 sidereally. For a birth year with two signs in the cell, the birth date has to be compared with the crossing dates in the stays tables above, and for a birth on or next to a crossing date, with the exact time.

How Firm the Dates Are

None of the three ever moves faster than 0.0632° a day (Uranus, the quickest), so a sign entry is printed as a date and never as a time of day. The scan behind the tables bisects each crossing far more finely than that, but it keeps a safety margin of half an arcminute for differences between ayanamsa formulas and between ephemeris conventions; the margin is an allowance, not a measured gap between any two sources. An entry closer to an IST midnight than the time the planet takes to cover that half arcminute is printed as two dates, “X or Y”: 100 of all 178 entries, more than half, because the planets are so slow.

The arithmetic behind that: the Sun covers one arcminute in under half an hour (0.4 hours). At its sidereal crossings Uranus needs a median of about 9 hours for the same arcminute, and up to 0.7 days; Neptune about 15 hours, up to 1.0 days; Pluto about 15 hours, up to 2.0 days, the slow cases being crossings made close to a station. So if two almanacs’ ayanamsas differ by one arcminute, a sidereal entry of these planets moves by several hours, and near a station by a day or two, where the Sun’s moves by a fraction of an hour. A calendar dated in a time zone west of India can also show the day before.

“Generational Planets”, as Arithmetic

The label comes from the plain fact in the tables: whole runs of birth years share these signs. Every birth from 2025 to 2042 has tropical Pluto in Aquarius, 18 consecutive years with no change at all, and sidereal Pluto stays in Capricorn for every birth from 2021 to 2038. Neptune’s longest such run in the span is 13 years (tropical Sagittarius, 1971–1983) and Uranus’s 6 (tropical Sagittarius, 1982–1987). Inside one such run the sign of that planet cannot tell two births apart. In a chart that places the planet at all, its house can, since the house comes from the lagna and so from the time and place of birth.

Parashari jyotish does not use the three at all, and the Harshal, Varun and Yam page explains why its structures have no slot for them and where the names some Hindi kundlis print come from. Jupiter and Saturn, which jyotish does use, have their own sidereal table on the Jupiter and Saturn sign by birth year page, and the opposition dates page times each Mars, Jupiter and Saturn opposition of 2026 to 2028.

What This Page Does Not Give

Positions, durations and dates only. There is no reading here of Uranus in Gemini, Pluto in Aquarius or any other placement, in a sign or a house, and no description of a generation: a count of days cannot test what a placement is supposed to say about a person, so the page does not offer one. It gives no time of day for any entry and no Hindi names.

In Brief

  • Now, tropical: Uranus in Gemini, Neptune in Aries, Pluto in Aquarius
  • Now, sidereal (Lahiri): Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, Pluto in Capricorn
  • Same sign in both zodiacs: on about a fifth of days (19–22%); otherwise the tropical sign is one later
  • Stays, 1950–2050, tropical: Uranus 6.9 to 8.8 years, Neptune 14.0 to 14.9, Pluto 12.0 to 20.8
  • Sign changes: three crossings is the commonest pattern; Uranus sometimes crosses once, Neptune and Pluto sometimes five times
  • Two dates printed: for 100 of 178 entries, which lie too close to midnight to settle

The Grahas of Your Own Birth Chart

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are not in it: the Janam Kundli report computes the seven grahas from the Sun to Saturn for your birth date, time and place, with the sidereal sign, degree and nakshatra of each.
