Venus Mahadasha, Ketu Antardasha (Shukra–Ketu)
1 year 2 months (classical) · 426 days (solar) · sub-period 9 of 9 in a 20-year mahadasha
The Ketu antardasha is the ninth of the nine sub-periods inside the Venus mahadasha, and the last of them — it closes the Venus mahadasha, which gives way to the Sun mahadasha. 20 × 7 ÷ 120 makes the Venus–Ketu sub-period 1 year 2 months on the classical year of twelve thirty-day months, which is how the texts state it, or 426 days on the solar year of 365.2425 days that the dasha calculator uses.
Ketu’s turn in the Venus mahadasha comes only after Venus, the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury have run, which takes 18 years 10 months. Nothing of the Venus mahadasha is left once the Venus–Ketu sub-period ends.
Ketu’s 7 years make every Ketu antardasha 7/120 of the mahadasha containing it, so inside Venus’s 20 years the Venus–Ketu sub-period is the seventh-longest of the nine, level with Venus–Mars, because Mars and Ketu each run 7 years as mahadashas.
The Nine Pratyantardashas of Venus–Ketu
A pratyantardasha of Venus–Ketu is 20 × 7 × its own lord’s years ÷ 14,400, and the nine run in cycle order starting from Ketu. Venus’s is the longest inside Venus–Ketu at 70 days and the Sun’s the shortest at 21 days, on the classical year and rounded to the day.

How Venus and Ketu Stand to Each Other
Ketu’s row in the friendship lists counts Venus a friend. Venus’s row names no node, so the other direction of the Venus–Ketu relationship has no entry, and this page does not supply one. The nodes have no row in the seven-graha table that kundli matching uses; the node’s own entry is the one printed on its planet page.
Ketu owns no sign in the standard scheme, so the Venus–Ketu sub-period has no fixed distance between lordships. What stands in for it is the node’s dispositor — the lord of the sign Ketu occupies at birth — which differs from chart to chart.
Ketu is debilitated in Taurus, a sign Venus owns (on the commoner reckoning; planets.js gives another sign as well). In the Venus–Ketu sub-period, then, one lord's dignity is placed on the other’s ground.
The Same Pair the Other Way Round: Ketu–Venus
20 × 7 equals 7 × 20, so the Venus antardasha of the Ketu mahadasha is exactly as long as Venus–Ketu: 1 year 2 months. Nothing else about Ketu–Venus matches. It is the second sub-period of Ketu’s 7 years rather than the ninth of Venus’s 20; it opens after 4 months 27 days of the Ketu mahadasha, against 18 years 10 months here; and its pratyantars start from Venus instead of Ketu.
What the Texts Assign to Venus and Ketu
The karaka list the tables give Venus, the mahadasha lord, is marriage, vehicles, art, music, luxury, hotels and cosmetics; for Ketu, the lord of the Venus–Ketu sub-period, it is moksha, past-life skill, renunciation, occult knowledge and flags and banners. Parashari practice reads the sub-period through the houses each of the two owns and occupies in the birth chart (for Ketu, which owns none, the house it occupies and the lord of its sign), and through where Ketu stands counted from Venus there. None of that is a forecast, and this page makes none: without a chart, Venus–Ketu is a length and a position, and the 1 year 2 months above is the whole of what can be said about it in general.
A birth with the Moon in Bharani, Purva Phalguni or Purva Ashadha opens life inside the Venus mahadasha itself, part-way through, and whether the Venus–Ketu sub-period is still ahead depends on how far the Moon had gone into the nakshatra. For a birth in Ashwini, Magha or Mula, the Ketu mahadasha comes first, and the Venus mahadasha is the next one.
The Other Sub-Periods of the Venus Mahadasha
The full table for the Venus mahadasha, with where each sub-period opens and closes, is on the Venus mahadasha page. How the Venus mahadasha is read as a whole is in our Venus mahadasha article, and the system itself in Vimshottari dasha explained. This page in Hindi: शुक्र महादशा में केतु अंतर्दशा.
When does Venus–Ketu run in your chart?
The dates come from the Moon’s longitude at birth. The calculator gives them; a pandit reads what the two lords hold in your chart.
