Dignity and Friendships
- Nature
- Shadow malefic — the headless one; Ketu takes rather than gives, and what it takes it does not return
- Own sign(s)
- None — Ketu co-lords Scorpio and is said to act as its dispositor
- Exalted in
- Scorpio by the most common reckoning; Sagittarius in others
- Debilitated in
- Taurus by the same reckoning; Gemini in others
- Moolatrikona
- Not assigned in the standard system

This is the natural (naisargika) friendship table, which never changes. Temporary friendship based on the two planets’ positions in a specific chart is calculated separately and can override it.
Ketu in Each of the 12 Rashis
The dignity above is the summary; each rashi changes what Ketu can actually do in it. These twelve pages carry the verdict with its degree, the two-way relationship with the sign lord, the signs Ketu aspects from there, the nine nakshatra padas it crosses, and — computed from the ephemeris — the dates it occupies that sign.

When Ketu Is Strong
Ketu is the south lunar node and Rahu's exact opposite: where Rahu grasps, Ketu has already let go. A well-placed Ketu gives mastery that the native cannot explain — a skill that seems to arrive fully formed, because classically it is carried from a previous life. It produces mathematicians, doctors, engineers, mystics, coders and diagnosticians: people who see the answer before the working. It gives indifference to reward, which is precisely why it produces excellence, and it is the strongest single marker in a chart for genuine spiritual progress rather than religious observance.
When Ketu Is Weak or Afflicted
Badly placed, Ketu removes without asking. Whatever house it occupies is a house the native undervalues — Ketu in the 7th makes marriage feel unnecessary, in the 2nd makes money feel beside the point, in the 10th makes career feel hollow even when it is going well — and the loss is usually only recognised afterwards. It gives sudden unexplained separations, confusion about what one actually wants, and health conditions that resist diagnosis. With the Moon it forms Grahan dosha; with Mars it produces a sharp, dangerous impatience.
The 7-Year Ketu Mahadasha
At seven years the Ketu mahadasha is the shortest alongside Mars, and it is a stripping period. Attachments end, positions are left voluntarily, and the native frequently walks away from something that outsiders think he should have kept. Well-placed it is the most spiritually productive stretch in the cycle and often the most creatively original. Badly placed it is seven years of loss without a compensating gain — and it very often precedes a Venus mahadasha, which is why so many charts show a hard seven years immediately before twenty comfortable ones.
Best and Worst Houses for Ketu
Does well in
3rd, 6th, 11th and 12th — Ketu is the one graha that does genuinely well in the 12th, the house of moksha
Struggles in
1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th — Ketu on the ascendant weakens self-definition and in the 7th it hollows out partnership
Ketu in Each of the 12 Bhavas
House placement is only half of it — the sign, the house lord’s condition and the aspects on Ketu decide the outcome. The dignity shown above is under Kaal Purush, the natural zodiac laid on the bhavas; in a real chart the sign depends on the ascendant, which each of those pages works out for all twelve. See the 12 houses for what each one governs.
Remedies for Ketu
- Recite the Ganapati Atharvashirsha and Om Kem Ketave Namah; the classical japa count for Ketu is 17,000.
- Donate a blanket, sesame, a multicoloured cloth or a flag to a temple, and feed dogs — the animal specifically associated with Ketu.
- Keep a dog, or care for one. This is prescribed for Ketu more often than any ritual remedy.
- Finish what you start, even when it has stopped mattering to you. Ketu's damage is abandonment, and completing things against the pull of indifference is the behavioural remedy for it.
- Mantra
- Om Kem Ketave Namah
- Deity
- Ganesha, and Bhairava
- Gemstone
- Cat's Eye (Lehsunia)
The gemstone is the last remedy to reach for, not the first — it strengthens Ketu unconditionally, which is the wrong outcome if Ketu rules a difficult house from your ascendant. Confirm against the chart. See gemstones by rashi.
