Ketu in Libra (Ketu in Tula)

Malefic (shadow) · Air · Chara · ruled by Venus

Ketu in Libra is in a friend's sign. Libra is ruled by Venus, and Ketu counts Venus a friend.

The relationship is not mutual, and that is the most useful thing on this page. Ketu regards Venus as a friend, but Venus regards Ketu as neutral. The classical friendship table is asymmetric, which readers almost always assume it is not. In practice it means Ketu settles into Libra more readily than the host reciprocates, so the placement behaves differently depending on which of the two is the stronger graha in the chart.

Libra is a chara air sign governing the lower abdomen and kidneys, and Ketu is reckoned malefic, governing detachment, moksha, past karma, intuition. Whatever Ketu signifies moksha, past-life skill, renunciation, occult knowledge, medicine, flags and banners — is what this rashi’s restlessness moves along.

The Dignity, Stated Precisely

  • In Libra: in a friend's sign.
  • Ketu’s own sign: None — Ketu co-lords Scorpio and is said to act as its dispositor. The standard scheme gives the nodes no rashi of their own; what is quoted is a co-lordship, and it is not universally accepted.
  • Exalted in: Scorpio by the most common reckoning; Sagittarius in others.
  • Debilitated in: Taurus by the same reckoning; Gemini in others.
  • Moolatrikona: Not assigned in the standard system.
  • Libra’s lord: Venus. Libra exalts Saturn at 20° and debilitates Sun at 10°.

One honest caveat, because it applies to Ketu specifically. The standard exaltation table covers the seven grahas and does not assign the nodes a dignity at all; what is quoted above is the most common reckoning, and other traditions give a different sign. The rashi tables on this site record only the seven, which is why they and the graha tables disagree here and nowhere else. Treat a nodal “exaltation” as one school’s convention rather than a settled fact, and weigh the node by house, dispositor and dasha instead.

What Ketu Aspects From Libra

Ketu is given no aspect of its own by the classical texts, and the traditions that do assign one do not agree with each other — many lend it the aspects of its dispositor, others none at all. So this page does not print a list of signs Ketu aspects from Libra: doing so would be asserting a convention as a fact. What Ketu in Libra does do is take on the character of its dispositor, Venus, and act through wherever Venus sits in the chart. That is the reading to make, and it needs the whole chart.

The Axis: Ketu in Libra Means Rahu in Aries

The nodes are not two independent bodies. They are the two ends of one line — the intersections of the Moon’s orbit with the ecliptic — and they are always exactly six rashis apart. So Ketu in Libra is not a placement you can read on its own: it fixes Rahu in Aries, ruled by Mars, and the axis has to be read as a pair.

That gives this particular axis two dispositors: Venus for Ketu and Mars for Rahu. Here they are different grahas, so the two ends of the axis answer to different masters and can be in very unequal condition. Whichever end carries the stronger dispositor tends to be where the axis actually delivers, and the classical reading is that Ketu amplifies while Rahu empties — the same axis produces excess at one end and detachment at the other.

For the other end of this axis, see Rahu in Aries.

How Far Libra Is From Ketu’s Own Ground

A graha is read partly by how far it has been displaced from the rashi it owns, and that distance is simple counting. Counting inclusively from Scorpio (a co-lordship rather than an ownership, as noted above), Libra falls as follows:

  • 12th from Scorpioa 2/12, the gain-and-loss axis.
  • 12th from Scorpio, the sign of its exaltation (on the commoner reckoning — this one is disputed)a 2/12, the gain-and-loss axis.
  • 6th from Taurus, the sign of its fall — a 6/8 — the shashtashtaka relation, the most awkward of the twelve.
  • Opposite Libra stands Aries, ruled by Mars — the rashi Ketu faces from here, and therefore the one it aspects whatever else it does or does not aspect.

The Company Ketu Keeps in Libra

Dignity runs in both directions, and the rashi has its own roster. Libra runs from 180°00′ to 210°00′ of sidereal longitude — the arc the Sun crosses about Oct 18 – Nov 16 — faces west, is classed male, and as an air sign is of the Shudra varna. Within those thirty degrees:

  • Ruled by Venus.
  • Exalts Saturn at 20° — not Ketu, so the strongest single degree of Libra is not Ketu’s.
  • Debilitates Sun at 10°, a different graha from Ketu.
  • Moolatrikona of Venus, 0°–15°.

So Ketu shares Libra with both an exaltation degree and a debilitation degree belonging to other grahas. A graha sitting close to either point is read against it, which is a reason the exact degree matters more in Libra than in a sign carrying neither. Libra’s own traits — diplomatic, fair-minded, social, indecisive, gracious — are the register in which detachment, moksha, past karma, intuition gets expressed when Ketu sits here.

The Nine Padas Ketu Crosses in Libra

A rashi is thirty degrees and a pada is three degrees twenty minutes, so every sign holds exactly nine padas — never a round number of nakshatras. Libra holds 3 nakshatras in whole or in part: Chitra (padas 3, 4), Swati and Vishakha (padas 1, 2, 3).

PadaSidereal longitudeNakshatraLordNavamsa
1180°00′183°20′Chitra pada 3MarsLibra
2183°20′186°40′Chitra pada 4MarsScorpio

8203°20′206°40′Vishakha pada 2JupiterTaurus

Ketu rules Ashwini, Magha, Mula, and none of them falls in Libra. So across all thirty degrees there is no stretch where Ketu has nakshatra-level ownership to fall back on; the whole sign is read through Venus, and through what Venus makes of a guest it counts neutral. The nakshatra lords it does cross here are Mars, Rahu, Jupiter.

When Ketu Is Actually in Libra

Here is the honest answer, and it is a computed one: Ketu does not enter Libra at any point in 2026 or 2027. The DE421 ephemeris this site computes from covers those two years, and across the whole of it Ketu never crosses into this rashi.

The negative is worth turning into a measurement, because it is one. On 1 January 2026, the first day the tables cover, Ketu stands in Leo; by 1 January 2028 it has reached Cancerone sign backwards, which is the only direction the nodes travel. From Cancer, Libra is a further nine signs backwards — that is how much of the zodiac still separates Ketu from this rashi when the tables run out.

That is a property of orbital period rather than an accident. Ketu takes about eighteen years to travel the zodiac, so it spends roughly eighteen months in each sign and a two-year window can only ever reach a few of them. This page is therefore about the placement as a natal condition — what it means in a chart born with it — and not about a transit you can wait for.

Where Ketu does go in this window is worth knowing, and it is on the Ketu page; the monthly readings under our rashifal archive date every ingress it does make.

Reading Ketu in Libra

Ketu signifies moksha, past-life skill, renunciation, occult knowledge, medicine, flags and banners. In Libra those significations are filtered through a chara air sign ruled by Venus, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process. In a friend’s sign they are supported without being amplified — a quietly workable placement.

This is not a prediction, and it cannot be one: the house Libra occupies from the ascendant, which of the nine padas above holds the graha, and the running dasha all change the answer. Ketu is reckoned malefic and is a shadow graha with no disc of its own, and it gains in the 3rd, 6th, 11th and 12th while it struggles in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th — so Ketu in Libra is a different placement in each of them. Under Kaal Purush Libra is the 7th bhava, so Ketu in the 7th house is the same pairing read from the bhava side, with the Libra transit dated for each of the twelve ascendants.

For what Ketu does when strong and when afflicted, its 7-year mahadasha, and the full remedy set, see the Ketu (Ketu) page. The short form: Ketu’s day is Tuesday, its gemstone is Cat's Eye (Lehsunia), its mantra is Om Kem Ketave Namah, and its deities are Ganesha, and Bhairava.
