graha in rashi

Jupiter in Libra (Guru in Tula)

Benefic · Air · Chara · ruled by Venus

Jupiter in Libra is in an enemy's sign. Libra is ruled by Venus, and Jupiter counts Venus an enemy.

The relationship is not mutual, and that is the most useful thing on this page. Jupiter regards Venus as an enemy, but Venus regards Jupiter as neutral. The classical friendship table is asymmetric, which readers almost always assume it is not. In practice it means Jupiter settles into Libra more warily than the host intends, so the placement behaves differently depending on which of the two is the stronger graha in the chart.

Libra is a chara air sign governing the lower abdomen and kidneys, and Jupiter is reckoned benefic, governing wisdom, dharma, wealth, children, teachers. Whatever Jupiter signifies children, teachers and gurus, higher learning, dharma, wealth, and the husband in a woman's chart — is what this rashi’s restlessness moves along.

The Dignity, Stated Precisely

  • In Libra: in an enemy's sign.
  • Jupiter’s own signs: Sagittarius and Pisces.
  • Exalted in: Cancer, deepest at 5°.
  • Debilitated in: Capricorn.
  • Moolatrikona: Sagittarius 0°–10°.
  • Libra’s lord: Venus. Libra exalts Saturn at 20° and debilitates Sun at 10°.

What Jupiter Aspects From Libra

Every graha casts a full aspect on the 7th house from itself, and Jupiter adds the 5th and the 9ththe trinal aspect, the most benevolent in the system. Counting from Libra, that lands on:

  • 5th from LibraAquarius (Kumbha), ruled by Saturn.
  • 7th from LibraAries (Mesha), ruled by Mars.
  • 9th from LibraGemini (Mithuna), ruled by Mercury.

None of the 3 signs Jupiter aspects from Libra is ruled by Jupiter, so its drishti here falls entirely on territory belonging to other grahas. Whose territory it is decides how the aspect is received.

How Far Libra Is From Jupiter’s Own Ground

A graha is read partly by how far it has been displaced from the rashi it owns, and that distance is simple counting. Counting inclusively from Sagittarius and from Pisces, Libra falls as follows:

  • 11th from Sagittariusa 3/11, the upachaya pairing.
  • 8th from Piscesa 6/8 — the shashtashtaka relation, the most awkward of the twelve.
  • 4th from Cancer, the sign of its exaltationa square, both of them kendra houses.
  • 10th from Capricorn, the sign of its fall — a square, both of them kendra houses.
  • Opposite Libra stands Aries, ruled by Mars — the rashi Jupiter faces from here, and therefore the one it aspects whatever else it does or does not aspect.

The Company Jupiter Keeps in Libra

Dignity runs in both directions, and the rashi has its own roster. Libra runs from 180°00′ to 210°00′ of sidereal longitude — the arc the Sun crosses about Oct 18 – Nov 16 — faces west, is classed male, and as an air sign is of the Shudra varna. Within those thirty degrees:

  • Ruled by Venus.
  • Exalts Saturn at 20° — not Jupiter, so the strongest single degree of Libra is not Jupiter’s.
  • Debilitates Sun at 10°, a different graha from Jupiter.
  • Moolatrikona of Venus, 0°–15°.

So Jupiter shares Libra with both an exaltation degree and a debilitation degree belonging to other grahas. A graha sitting close to either point is read against it, which is a reason the exact degree matters more in Libra than in a sign carrying neither. Libra’s own traits — diplomatic, fair-minded, social, indecisive, gracious — are the register in which wisdom, dharma, wealth, children, teachers gets expressed when Jupiter sits here.

The Nine Padas Jupiter Crosses in Libra

A rashi is thirty degrees and a pada is three degrees twenty minutes, so every sign holds exactly nine padas — never a round number of nakshatras. Libra holds 3 nakshatras in whole or in part: Chitra (padas 3, 4), Swati and Vishakha (padas 1, 2, 3).

PadaSidereal longitudeNakshatraLordNavamsa
1180°00′183°20′Chitra pada 3MarsLibra
2183°20′186°40′Chitra pada 4MarsScorpio
3186°40′190°00′Swati pada 1RahuSagittarius
4190°00′193°20′Swati pada 2RahuCapricorn
5193°20′196°40′Swati pada 3RahuAquarius
6196°40′200°00′Swati pada 4RahuPisces

8203°20′206°40′Vishakha pada 2JupiterTaurus
9206°40′210°00′Vishakha pada 3JupiterGemini

Jupiter rules Punarvasu, Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada, and one of them falls inside Libra: Vishakha (padas 1, 2, 3). Those degrees are the part of Libra where Jupiter is on its own ground regardless of what the sign lord thinks of it — a nakshatra lordship is a second, finer layer of dignity, and it does not have to agree with the first. That matters here, because it gives Jupiter a foothold in a sign whose lord it counts an enemy.

When Jupiter Is Actually in Libra

Here is the honest answer, and it is a computed one: Jupiter does not enter Libra at any point in 2026 or 2027. The DE421 ephemeris this site computes from covers those two years, and across the whole of it Jupiter never crosses into this rashi.

The negative is worth turning into a measurement, because it is one. On 1 January 2026, the first day the tables cover, Jupiter stands in Gemini; by 1 January 2028 it has reached Virgothree signs further on. From Virgo, Libra is a further one sign ahead — that is how much of the zodiac still separates Jupiter from this rashi when the tables run out.

That is a property of orbital period rather than an accident. Jupiter takes about twelve years to travel the zodiac, so it spends roughly a year in each sign and a two-year window can only ever reach a few of them. This page is therefore about the placement as a natal condition — what it means in a chart born with it — and not about a transit you can wait for.

Where Jupiter does go in this window is worth knowing, and it is on the Jupiter page; the monthly readings under our rashifal archive date every ingress it does make.

Jupiter also combusts: within 11° of the Sun. A combust Jupiter in Libra is read as weakened whatever the dignity above says, which is the standard case where the textbook verdict and the actual sky disagree.

Reading Jupiter in Libra

Jupiter signifies children, teachers and gurus, higher learning, dharma, wealth, and the husband in a woman's chart. In Libra those significations are filtered through a chara air sign ruled by Venus, and the dignity above says how much support they get in the process. In an enemy’s sign they meet resistance from the host, and the results tend to arrive late or in a form the native did not ask for.

This is not a prediction, and it cannot be one: the house Libra occupies from the ascendant, which of the nine padas above holds the graha, and the running dasha all change the answer. Jupiter is reckoned benefic, and it gains in the 1st, 5th, 9th, 2nd and 11th while it struggles in the 6th, 8th and 12th — so Jupiter in Libra is a different placement in each of them. Under Kaal Purush Libra is the 7th bhava, so Jupiter in the 7th house is the same pairing read from the bhava side, with the Libra transit dated for each of the twelve ascendants.

For what Jupiter does when strong and when afflicted, its 16-year mahadasha, and the full remedy set, see the Jupiter (Guru) page. The short form: Jupiter’s day is Thursday, its gemstone is Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj), its mantra is Om Guruve Namah, and its deities are Brihaspati, Dakshinamurthy, and Vishnu.
