Ketu in the 7th House

Ketu, a shadowy malefic graha signifying moksha, past-life skill, renunciation, occult knowledge, medicine, flags and banners, placed in the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — that pairing is the whole of what Ketu in the 7th house means before a chart is opened. The 7th house does not look to Ketu for its significations though — it looks to Venus for the spouse, Jupiter for the husband in a woman's chart — so Ketu here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 7th Is Libra

In the natural chart the 7th house is Libra, so Ketu here is in a friend's sign. The bhava answers to Venus, and the two do not read each other the same way: Ketu counts Venus a friend, while Venus counts Ketu neutral — so whichever of the two is the stronger in a given chart changes what the 7th delivers on spouse / partner, not merely how much of it arrives. Libra is spanned by the third and fourth padas of Chitra, Swati and the first, second and third padas of Vishakha, lorded in that order by Mars, Rahu and Jupiter. None of the three is Ketu, so Ketu in the 7th always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on spouse / partner than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with Ketu in the same 7th house read differently.

Ketu sits outside the reckoning that verdict comes from. No standard table exalts Ketu anywhere, and the schools that do place Ketu somewhere disagree over where: the exaltation entry reads “Scorpio by the most common reckoning; Sagittarius in others” and the debilitation entry “Taurus by the same reckoning; Gemini in others”. What the 7th House’s Classification Does to Ketu

The 7th is classified kendra (angular); maraka (with the 2nd). Set against Ketu, a shadowy malefic graha, that classification produces:

• Kendra. The 7th is angular, so Ketu here works on a platform — whatever it does shows outwardly in the life rather than staying internal.
• Maraka. The 7th is one of the two maraka houses, a classification used only in longevity calculation. It says nothing about Ketu on its own and nothing at all about an individual chart.

No classical text gives Ketu a drishti of its own, and the traditions that supply Ketu one disagree: some lend Ketu the aspects of Venus, this bhava’s lord, and some give Ketu none at all. So this page prints no aspect list for Ketu in the 7th, the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — a list would state one school’s convention as settled. What Ketu does from the 7th instead is take the colour of Venus and work through wherever Venus sits, which makes the reach of Ketu here exactly as wide as Venus’s own placement and no wider.

And it is never one placement. Ketu and Rahu are the two ends of one line, six bhavas apart always, so Ketu in the 7th fixes Rahu in the 1st, the bhava of self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance. The axis is read as Ketu inflating the 7th while Rahu empties the 1st — detachment, moksha, past karma, intuition pressed onto spouse / partner, and desires, illusions, foreign lands, sudden gains thinning out of personal identity, at once. • Scorpio, which Ketu owns, is the 8th — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 7th.
• Ketu exalts in Scorpio, the 8th on the commoner reckoning — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 7th. And Ketu owns Scorpio as well as exalting in it, so the 8th is the one bhava carrying both of Ketu’s claims at once.
• Ketu falls in Taurus, the 2nd on the commoner reckoning — a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 7th.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 7th gives the 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — a Parashari extension, read as Ketu’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Venus, dispositor of the 7th, also owns the 2nd — so whatever Ketu does in the 7th is routed through a lord whose other business is savings and wealth.

The body reading. The 7th bhava is pelvis, lower back, reproductive organs, bladder and the kidneys, and Ketu is assigned no organ at all. The tradition gives Ketu symptoms instead of tissues, and the list recorded for Ketu is undiagnosable illness, skin disease and immune disorder. So Ketu in the 7th is read as those presenting at pelvis rather than as damage done to it. A framework for reading a chart, not a diagnosis.

When Ketu Is Actually in Your 7th House

Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 7th house, and here the ephemeris returns a sharper answer than any essay. Ketu occupies only 2 rashis across 2026–2027, so Ketu transits the 7th house for only 2 of the twelve ascendants in that whole period — Capricorn, Aquarius lagnas.
