Saturn in the 7th House

Saturn, a malefic graha signifying longevity, karma, labour, servants, old age, iron, coal, and delay itself, placed in the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — that pairing is the whole of what Saturn in the 7th house means before a chart is opened. The 7th house does not look to Saturn for its significations though — it looks to Venus for the spouse, Jupiter for the husband in a woman's chart — so Saturn here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 7th Is Libra

In the natural chart the 7th house is Libra, so Saturn here is exalted — deepest at 20° of Libra. The bhava answers to Venus, and the two agree about each other: each counts the other a friend, so nothing in Saturn’s dealings with the lord of the 7th pulls against itself — the terms on which this bhava delivers spouse / partner are set by Venus’s own placement alone. Libra is spanned by the third and fourth padas of Chitra, Swati and the first, second and third padas of Vishakha, lorded in that order by Mars, Rahu and Jupiter. None of the three is Saturn, so Saturn in the 7th always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on spouse / partner than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with Saturn in the same 7th house read differently.

What the 7th House’s Classification Does to Saturn

The 7th is classified kendra (angular); maraka (with the 2nd). Set against Saturn, a malefic graha, that classification produces:

• Kendra. The 7th is angular, so Saturn here works on a platform — whatever it does shows outwardly in the life rather than staying internal.
• Maraka. The 7th is one of the two maraka houses, a classification used only in longevity calculation. It says nothing about Saturn on its own and nothing at all about an individual chart.

Saturn’s own preferred bhavas are the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, and the 7th is among them — Saturn is a malefic and gains in the Upachaya houses, and the 7th is its digbala house. So the classification of the 7th and the disposition of Saturn point the same way, which is not true of most of the 108 combinations.

• The 9th, fortune, dharma, higher education, father, long-distance travel, gurus, philosophy — the 3rd from the 7th.
• The 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — the 7th from the 7th. Saturn is documented as struggling in the 1st, so this aspect lands as pressure on a bhava it is uneasy in.
• The 4th, mother, home, property, vehicles, inner peace, education base, emotional foundation — the 10th from the 7th. Saturn is documented as struggling in the 4th, so this aspect lands as pressure on a bhava it is uneasy in.

Where the 7th Sits Relative to Saturn’s Own Bhavas

• Capricorn, which Saturn owns, is the 10th — a square, both of them kendra positions from the 7th.
• Aquarius, which Saturn owns, is the 11th — a trine, the most supportive of the distances from the 7th.
• The 7th is also Saturn’s exaltation bhava — Libra falls here, so two of the strongest claims coincide on the 7th.
• Saturn falls in Aries, the 1st — a direct opposition from the 7th.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 7th gives the 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — a Parashari extension, read as Saturn’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Venus, dispositor of the 7th, also owns the 2nd — so whatever Saturn does in the 7th is routed through a lord whose other business is savings and wealth.

The body reading. The 7th bhava is pelvis, lower back, reproductive organs, bladder and the kidneys, while Saturn governs bones, teeth, joints, the nervous system, knees and skin; medical astrology reads the 7th for Saturn where those two overlap, and their not overlapping is as informative as their doing so. When Saturn Is Actually in Your 7th House

Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 7th house, and here the ephemeris returns a sharper answer than any essay. Saturn occupies only 2 rashis across 2026–2027, so Saturn transits the 7th house for only 2 of the twelve ascendants in that whole period — Virgo, Libra lagnas.
