Moon in the 7th House

The Moon, a benefic while waxing graha signifying mother, the mind (manas), water, milk, the public, comfort, the home, placed in the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — that pairing is the whole of what the Moon in the 7th house means before a chart is opened. The 7th house does not look to the Moon for its significations though — it looks to Venus for the spouse, Jupiter for the husband in a woman's chart — so the Moon here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 7th Is Libra

In the natural chart the 7th house is Libra, so the Moon here is in a neutral sign. The bhava answers to Venus, and the two do not read each other the same way: the Moon counts Venus neutral, while Venus counts the Moon an enemy — so whichever of the two is the stronger in a given chart changes what the 7th delivers on spouse / partner, not merely how much of it arrives. Libra is spanned by the third and fourth padas of Chitra, Swati and the first, second and third padas of Vishakha, lorded in that order by Mars, Rahu and Jupiter. None of the three is the Moon, so the Moon in the 7th always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on spouse / partner than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with the Moon in the same 7th house read differently.

What the 7th House’s Classification Does to the Moon

The 7th is classified kendra (angular); maraka (with the 2nd). Set against the Moon, a benefic while waxing graha, that classification produces:

• Kendra. The 7th is angular, so the Moon here works on a platform — whatever it does shows outwardly in the life rather than staying internal.
• Maraka. The 7th is one of the two maraka houses, a classification used only in longevity calculation. It says nothing about the Moon on its own and nothing at all about an individual chart.

The Moon’s own preferred bhavas are the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, and the 7th is among them — the Moon wants the Kendra and Trikona and does well in the 4th, its own digbala house. So the classification of the 7th and the disposition of the Moon point the same way, which is not true of most of the 108 combinations.

Directional strength. The Moon gains digbala in the 4th, which is a square, both of them kendra positions from the 7th — so in the 7th the directional component of the Moon’s strength has to be made up elsewhere in the shadbala reckoning.

Which Bhavas the Moon Reaches From the 7th

The Moon casts only the drishti every graha has, the 7th from itself, which from the 7th means it reaches one bhava:

• The 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — the 7th from the 7th. The Moon is documented as doing well in the 1st, so this aspect strengthens a bhava it already suits.

Where the 7th Sits Relative to the Moon’s Own Bhavas

• Cancer, which the Moon owns, is the 4th — a square, both of them kendra positions from the 7th.
• the Moon exalts in Taurus, the 2nd — a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 7th.
• the Moon falls in Scorpio, the 8th — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 7th.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 7th gives the 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — a Parashari extension, read as the Moon’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Venus, dispositor of the 7th, also owns the 2nd — so whatever the Moon does in the 7th is routed through a lord whose other business is savings and wealth.

The body reading. The 7th bhava is pelvis, lower back, reproductive organs, bladder and the kidneys, while the Moon governs blood, lymph, lungs, chest, stomach lining and all bodily fluids; medical astrology reads the 7th for the Moon where those two overlap, and their not overlapping is as informative as their doing so. A framework for reading a chart, not a diagnosis.

When the Moon Is Actually in Your 7th House

Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 7th house, and the ephemeris knows when the Moon is in it — but for the Moon that produces a rhythm, not an event. It crosses all twelve rashis in about 27 days, so it is in your 7th house for a little over two days each month, roughly 27 times across 2026–2027. The counts differ by one from row to row only because the two-year window cuts mid-cycle in some rashis; the length of the stay varies more, from about 52 hours to 61, because the Moon’s speed changes with its distance. At that frequency the 7th house is read for mood and timing rather than for events.

Sign ingresses computed from the DE421 ephemeris, sidereal Lahiri, as days rather than instants: the ingresses of the slower bodies shift by hours between one ayanamsa and the next, so a printed minute would be false precision. “From” or “to” marks a spell already running when the tables open, or still running when they close.
