Rahu in the 7th House

Rahu, a shadowy malefic graha signifying foreign lands and foreigners, technology, aviation, speculation, politics, sudden and unearned gain, placed in the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — that pairing is the whole of what Rahu in the 7th house means before a chart is opened. The 7th house does not look to Rahu for its significations though — it looks to Venus for the spouse, Jupiter for the husband in a woman's chart — so Rahu here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 7th Is Libra

In the natural chart the 7th house is Libra, so Rahu here is in a friend's sign. The bhava answers to Venus, and the two do not read each other the same way: Rahu counts Venus a friend, while Venus counts Rahu neutral — so whichever of the two is the stronger in a given chart changes what the 7th delivers on spouse / partner, not merely how much of it arrives. Libra is spanned by the third and fourth padas of Chitra, Swati and the first, second and third padas of Vishakha, lorded in that order by Mars, Rahu and Jupiter. Rahu lords Swati among the three, so Rahu in the 7th is its own nakshatra dispositor when it falls anywhere in that nakshatra — the one arrangement in which nothing at all mediates between Rahu and this bhava’s spouse / partner.

Rahu sits outside the reckoning that verdict comes from. No standard table exalts Rahu anywhere, and the schools that do place Rahu somewhere disagree over where: the exaltation entry reads “Taurus by the most common reckoning; Gemini in others” and the debilitation entry “Scorpio by the same reckoning; Sagittarius in others”. Calling Rahu in a friend's sign in Libra therefore says how Rahu stands to Venus, lord of the 7th, and nothing about a dignity Rahu holds in its own right. What the 7th House’s Classification Does to Rahu

The 7th is classified kendra (angular); maraka (with the 2nd). Set against Rahu, a shadowy malefic graha, that classification produces:

• Kendra. The 7th is angular, so Rahu here works on a platform — whatever it does shows outwardly in the life rather than staying internal.
• Maraka. The 7th is one of the two maraka houses, a classification used only in longevity calculation. It says nothing about Rahu on its own and nothing at all about an individual chart.

Rahu is documented as struggling in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, the 7th included — Rahu on the ascendant distorts self-image, and in the 9th it undermines dharma. Read that as where the effort goes in the 7th, not as a verdict: Rahu’s dispositor and the dasha decide the outcome.

Directional strength. Digbala is not defined for Rahu. The four grantor bhavas name the seven classical grahas and no node, and Rahu, having no disc, has no direction in which to be bright. On the 7th that is a measurement which does not reach Rahu rather than one Rahu fails — what decides Rahu in the 7th is that bhava’s own subject, spouse / partner, the condition of Venus, and the 18-year Rahu mahadasha.

Which Bhavas Rahu Reaches From the 7th

No classical text gives Rahu a drishti of its own, and the traditions that supply Rahu one disagree: some lend Rahu the aspects of Venus, this bhava’s lord, and some give Rahu none at all. So this page prints no aspect list for Rahu in the 7th, the bhava of marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies — a list would state one school’s convention as settled. What Rahu does from the 7th instead is take the colour of Venus and work through wherever Venus sits, which makes the reach of Rahu here exactly as wide as Venus’s own placement and no wider.

And it is never one placement. Rahu and Ketu are the two ends of one line, six bhavas apart always, so Rahu in the 7th fixes Ketu in the 1st, the bhava of self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance. The axis is read as Rahu inflating the 7th while Ketu empties the 1st — desires, illusions, foreign lands, sudden gains pressed onto spouse / partner, and detachment, moksha, past karma, intuition thinning out of personal identity, at once. Where the 7th Sits Relative to Rahu’s Own Bhavas

• Aquarius, which Rahu owns, is the 11th — a trine, the most supportive of the distances from the 7th.
• Rahu exalts in Taurus, the 2nd on the commoner reckoning — a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 7th.
• Rahu falls in Scorpio, the 8th on the commoner reckoning — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 7th.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 7th gives the 1st, self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — a Parashari extension, read as Rahu’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Venus, dispositor of the 7th, also owns the 2nd — so whatever Rahu does in the 7th is routed through a lord whose other business is savings and wealth.

The body reading. The 7th bhava is pelvis, lower back, reproductive organs, bladder and the kidneys, and Rahu is assigned no organ at all. The tradition gives Rahu symptoms instead of tissues, and the list recorded for Rahu is poisoning, phobia, skin disorder and undiagnosable breathing complaints. So Rahu in the 7th is read as those presenting at pelvis rather than as damage done to it. A framework for reading a chart, not a diagnosis.

When Rahu Is Actually in Your 7th House

Your ascendant decides which rashi is your 7th house, and here the ephemeris returns a sharper answer than any essay. Rahu occupies only 2 rashis across 2026–2027, so Rahu transits the 7th house for only 2 of the twelve ascendants in that whole period — Cancer, Leo lagnas. For the other 10, general advice about Rahu in the 7th house describes nothing that is happening. The longest unbroken stretch is 338 days, for a Leo ascendant, whose 7th house is Aquarius.
